So, in your personal opinion, which game felt the biggest in terms of scale and adventure?
So, in your personal opinion, which game felt the biggest in terms of scale and adventure?
XI
IX
XV, but that's only my objective, non nostalgiafaggot cancer, not trying to fit in opinion.
11 by lightyears
VIII
14 should be this guy
>my objective, non nostlagiafaggot cancer, not trying to fit in
Don't worry, this entire post itself is cancer
IX, XI and XIV, no contest.
FFT
>XV
>adventure
>driving around inbetween diners and truckstops
>no villages or anything
If that isnt bait then you're probably the biggest faggot around
XIV by far. Felt way more invested in the story than any other modern final fantasy and after 400 hours, I'm still playing and finding stuff to do. Not to mention you get to create your own character and choose whichever job/class you want to do instead of being stuck with some premade party
VII.
You spend hours in just the different locations in Midgar and then it's like: Yeah, that's one town and there's an entire fucking word to explore.
MMOs have an unfair advantage, but XII was absolutely enormous.
9 is my favorite. It really felt like a big fantasy adventure.
ITT: triggered nostalgiafaggot cancer killing video games
Shtola is XIV's flagship character and I'm perfectly okay with that. Suncat is a cutie
What are you doing
First post as it should be
Come now I'm a huge XV apologists and even I can see that it was more comfy road trip with bros rather then the normal fantastical adventure the final fantasy games are use too
FFI always felt like a big adventure since you had access to so many vehicles even from the beginning. There's an expected order, but being able to explore the world and fight the four fiends in any order you wish is freeing. VIII doesn't capture that feeling in the world itself, but it feels good to be able to break the game's difficulty in the same manner.
Haven't played I, IX-XII, or XIV.
VII
The game is loooong, you have flying Weapons and underwater Weapons.
Pretty sure it has the most enemies of any entry as well.
I, VII, XI, XIV
Obviously the MMO's are really the biggest, but those four really FELT like the biggest scale/adventure.
That's almost certainly one of the MMOs. Like, completely objectively. Stop making bait threads.
Look at all that sameface
Either XI, XIV or IX
FOURTEEN FOR SURE HEHE ITS A MMO I KNOW BUT ITS THE BIGGEST
fuck I hate people like you
>That's almost certainly one of the MMOs. Like, completely objectively.
ARR has less sense of world scale and adventure than any of the single player games. Its a series of static fetch-quest hubs.
It's not like we're not allowed to choose 14, you mong. If you actually played 14, you'd know it has more going for it than gameplay hours and has the spirit of an actual final fantasy game than most other modern final fantasies. Don't force yourself to play shitty games just because you want to be a le edgy contrarian.
Dragon Quest VII
Why does Squall look like a faggot in this pic?
Disc 1 FFIX is the pinnacle of jRPGs.
I've only played a couple of Final Fantasy games. Is it possible that some of the games take place on the same world, but just in different parts?
This is stupid, XI is significantly larger than XIV.
You never been on a road trip with your friends or something?
11 has been around for 10 years and has almost 10 dlc packs with new maps. Of course it's fucking bigger you idiot
Some of the games are suggested to take place at largely distant times on the same world, but other than that they are separate.
XI on a year by year basis was also massively larger than XIV.
Nothing wowed as much as FFVII did because I honestly thought the whole game would be in Midgar.
Plus you go to space and go under water.
Modern FFs cannot be that grand anymore because they chase photo realism.
That doesn't excuse the game looking like shite and playing like it too. Enjoy your 3 hour cooldowns and de-leveling, I guess.
>So, in your personal opinion, which game felt the biggest in terms of scale and adventure?
Game
>No it isn't
OP here, this is only my second post in the thread, I have no issue with anything anyone else is saying
It was fun having to think, converse with other players, and earn your place in the world.
It's ok though the game wasn't for you and other casuals, you prefer gear treadmills, following glowing arrows, and waiting in line at all the attractions like a good themepark visitor.
V and IX
Will there ever be a truly great FF again?
I honestly think this series is done.
Sorry Grandpa, I don't have time to wait for my 2 hour cooldowns while waiting for parties to hook up just so I can grind out 1 level. You and your retirement buddies have all the time in the world to play so enjoy!
I wish kids nowadays could experience how grandiose the leap into FF7 was back when it was new. There's a reason people nostalgia so hard for that shit, because it really was one of those rare "this is the fucking future" feelings
I know it's late to get into XI but how exactly late is it?
I'm kind of tired of WoW-clones with homogenized classes, would like to play something oldschool where each class had something special for them even though overall "class balance" would be shit.
V. It's the multiple and escalating transports. Three worlds, two underwater areas and the Rift. Storywise as well it feels like the longest journey from normal, ordinary people to opposing a universal threat. That being said, I haven't played XV, the MMOs or After Years and Revenant Wings of the mainline games.
>They picked Y'Stola from XIV
What the fuck. Is Kain even in the game? Seems like the perfect plug for Estinien.
2hour "ultimate" abilities were one of the coolest parts of the game, you're just digging your own grave deeper.
>He doesn't want a massive oh shit button that could turn the tide of a battle if used juuuuuuuuuuust right
>The sound of a 2hr going off was enough to turn everyones head and focus up on what was about to go down
It's a half hour from closing. You missed out on any glory days the game had.
XII for me
Welp, at least I didn't miss out on Ragnarok. It's a shame though that there's no replacement to those games.
IV and X.
it's funny because XI has somewhere around five flagship girls and none of them are Shantotto. At the very least it should be Prishe.
well you missed Abyssea, so you are late enough.
it still gets updated every month, however it must be summer holidays because june and july updates are gash.
From 2003-2008 it was a perfect old school game that focused on community (you HAD to play in groups), challenge, and the journey over the reward. After that the game drifted into WoWish waters as Square wanted to promote FFXIV, they completely ruined the game with a few updates and it drove most of the playerbase away. In recent years they've been trying to patch things up and it's alright but nowhere near as good as it was in the golden years.
The story is still there as is the beautiful world but the community no longer exists and the game is mostly balanced around playing solo now. If you were going to get into it you'd really want to do so with a partner or group of friends.
that image is total bullshit, btw.

Reminder not to reply to xv-kun
I only played IV, VII, VIII, X and XII and from my options, I say XII
>XIV
>good story
>spirit of a Final Fantasy
Oh you mean how the Omega Raid boiled down to a tournament of 'the strongest beings' Omega could imagine (despite being a fucking robot)
Its the laziest possible fucking story they could have come up with to explain Exdeath and the other FFV references.
Omega drew in FFV from folktales though, and as Nero stated, he can only make it happen if they actually existed.
So yeah FFV happened in the XIV world somewhere in the past.
People confuse endlessly referencing and aping other FFs as having its spirit.
I find FF XIV a largely soulless affair.
>Y'Shtolha is still representing XIV
I don't get it. Her biggest contribution to XIV recently was almost dying to the villain of the expansion, she did nothing sparing that for the entire expansion.
You'd think Alphinaud at the least by now.
The ivallice games take place in the same world. Apparantly 10 and 7 take place in the same universe, but on different planets and different times.
Both expansions have had decent identity of their own, especially HW.
I'd imagine most players don't have a large background in MMOs or JRPGs and thus don't have much to compare it to. They can't look back at a game like FFXI and see it's engaging storylines and mistake the sloppy final fantasy paintjob for depth in XIV.
squenix wanted more girls on the roster
Playing it right now, I like the character customization system, even if it inevitably turns into "everyone is a tough melee warrior who can cast spells"
Also, white mage krile is super cute
He isn't in the thread atm but

>deflecting to kh when people were talking about xv's story
Even when he isn't posting here he is still so predictable

>ff4
>underworld, moon
>ff6
>wor, wob
>ff7
>expansive towns, mostly linear
>ffx
>lots of walking. no "world map"
>ff12
>lots of walking. tedious combat to get where you want to go.
I think it's a tossup between 12 and 4.
12 has a ton of areas, but maybe they just felt big because the auto-combat took so much time, and backtracking was integrated.
4's a serious contender because you literally go to the fucking MOON, though the base world map isn't that big.
14 really suffers from wow style self-contained level-appropriate zoning of content. You'd think MMOs would feel the biggest, but it certainly did not.
This. I miss this game so much. Too bad I don't like what they've done with it.
XIV's only viable representative would be Minfilia, whom would need a total rewrite as to not be absolutely fucking useless.
It would have not only had larger impact, but had made more sense for her entire shitshow of an arc if she had actually been capable of combat. If XIV wasn't basically trying to suck the player's dick 99% of the time, Minfilia and the other Scions would basically have saved the Warrior of Light repeatedly.
The WoL is really just a Primal Killing machine, nothing more and frankly Nael van Darnus explains this perfectly in 1.0's Garuda Death scene.
He just thinks if you dislike one thing in XV you must totally love everything in every other game out there
Welcome to PlayOnline

Just fanboy DQ instead. They kept everything that made the series great instead of changing everything about gameplay infavor of cinematic storytelling.
It was great, you were playing Final Fantasy, but everything was 3d now. The characters looked cool, the cutscenes were amazing and the world felt huge. The leap in graphics from FF7 to FF8 were just as impressive too.
>decent identity
>Stormblood
Honestly? Stormblood's identity is sheer shit. Lets go down the list of dumb shit SB is doing.
1. Hearing the Stormblood Theme for literally everything, including any random encounter is annoying as fuck.
2. The new dungeons, Sirensong Sea excluded, are shit and boring as fuck aesthetically.
3. Yojimbo is amusing, but Kugane Castle is kind of shit.
4. Square is obviously having trouble rebalancing things for the new reworked jobs, leading to massively nerfed content.
5. Lyse does nothing but REE and punch the Garleans you already beat the piss out of before grandstanding every fucking time.
6. Zenos yae Galvus was a generic 'crazy', 'monster' villain -- not to mention his look at the end of the story was basically "MomsGonnaFREAK.jpg" and he looked every bit like the little edgelord faggot he was.
7. Omega Raids are lazy in concept - literally boss rushes instead of exploring or even creatively altering what FFV had set in stone. Also the Alpha Chocobo is really fucking stupid.
I can go on.
>If XIV wasn't basically trying to suck the player's dick 99% of the time
I'm playing it right now - reunion with old FFXI friends - and I must say this bothers me.
FFXI was coop-based, and it worked in making you understand you were just another set of hands in a sea of willful people. You were a grunt that managed to go all the way even when you saved the world. By contrast FFXIV is ridiculous in how in tries to paint you as special all the time. As if you wer oblivious to the fact that everyone else was seeing the same cutscenes (or maybe that is the the assumption: no communication between players, no need for socializing).
Other thing is the world. Everything feels designed. No sense of place or world or characters really. The QoL elements ensure that by itself, but there is also the way the levels are designed: transversal scape at best, not dwelling space. Add to that how the cornucopia of gear and paid DLC stuff makes gear appearance meaningless - to the point you don't bother looking at others, they're just part of the scenery as you walk by.
There is no attempt at making you feel like you're in another world. The feeling of adventure really isn't there in spite of how big the levels can be.
Exactly. Even the fucking towns do not do anything to make you feel like you are part of them.
I wonder if people are ever going to wake the fuck up
FF7 not even close
babbies first Final Fantasy
FF fans love to pretend that everything is fine and that nothing has changed. As long as SE has loyal fans the will mindlessly consume anything they put out, they will always thrive ad nothing will ever change.
III, IV, and IX
Its a MMO Theme park.
and i fucking love it i cant wait to fight ExDeath
It bothers me that XV-fags still use Nomura's Noct design for XV. Just look at his face and you can tell it's not the same person as Tabby's faggy version.
Photo realism isn't the problem, the directors being hacks who want to copy the west is the problem. Just look at XV.
>Shantotto still representing XI
Contribution to the game clearly has nothing to do with it at this point. Fuck, lets replace Bartz with Gilgamesh too because he's an even bigger meme than Shantotto.
Not a mainline one.
Didn't read your whole post because spoilers, but if not WoL placeholder, Alphinaud should probably be the representative face since he's the most involved with you and the story and always has been.
How about fucking Alphinaud? He's been part of the story consistently since the beginning and not just on the side like most scions
I'm thinking the game just isn't for people like us. And it has its audience, .
Trouble is SE willfully broke FFXI and there ain't many, if any, games trying to replicate that kind of experience nowadays.
Alphinaud mind.
Why is Shantotto the face of 11? I mean, she is funny and probably the only likable character from her entire race but she ain't exactly main character material. She's an old hag. Should really have been Lion or Prishe or maybe whoever the main girl (why's it always a girl?) is in the latest expansion.
Yeah I was always curious why Shantotto was 11, doesn't she only appear in one expansion's story? I can only guess because she's most recognisable to people who DON'T know about 11.
That is exactly why the indie scene became so big, lots of people don't care much about better graphics anymore
