Other than the firewall fucking with things occasionally and having to turn it off I don't really have any complaints.

Not had any issues with games but for some reason it just refuses to shut down now. I press shut down PC and it's stuck saying 'shutting down' until I turn off the PC by holding the power button down.

Also the start menu is a joke. Nobody wants apps on their desktop Microsoft, it will never be a thing.

Installing the anniversary update and the creator's update removed the telemetry blocks put in place. The early creator's update also switched telemetry to full before complaints were made.

Websites that you visit. Filenames that you open. Programs that you run. Double check that you are at least on basic telemetry if you're not going to block it manually. XBOX owners, you're fucked anyway.

It unironically just works. Since I'm outside US jurisdiction I also don't have to worry about spyware.

No, just like directx 9. See when vista came out, it was horseshit and everybody knew it. And directx 10 did not offer anything very significant over directx 9. People stayed with xp. So we had a massive developer backlog just sit with directx 9 because that was the largest market.
Currently, developing a directx 12 only game is for windows 10 users only. Vulkan does exactly the same things graphically, and works on 7/8.1/10.

GNU/Linux Now has the best OpenGL drivers for AMD hardware available on any platform in the form of the open source Mesa RadeonSI.
The Mesa RadV Vulkan driver is also proceeding at a rapid pace and is already faster than the OpenGL driver, though not quite as consistently fast as the closed source official Vulkan driver.

The Nvidia driver is actually exactly the same as the one used on Windows. OpenGL and Vulkan performance is consistently demonstrated to be the same across platforms.

The performance hit seen in most Linux games compared to the Windows version is the result of trying to port from one high level (non-standard) code path, to another high level (standard) code path. More recent ports are starting to replace OpenGL with Vulkan which allows the DirectX codepath to be more easily and directly replaced as its lower level. This can be seen in this comparison of the Mad Max OpenGL version, compared to the linux-exclusive Vulkan version.
Games that are actually designed for Vulkan will see even more impressive results.

If you want the rest of the functionality without being locked in you want OpenAL, OpenCL, SDL, etc.

As an OS that tries to bridge PC and Tablet together, it's perfect for the Surface Pro
But as a PC OS, it's fucking trash in comparison to Windows 7

Honestly Windows 10 has made me start spending my time in Linux. It looks better, has a more consistent UI, and I don't have to deal with error messages I can't figure out how to fucking fix without shady fixes from Pajeets.

WINE works pretty well for the one piece of Windows software I couldn't do without. (Musicbee)

Starting to experiment with WINE for steam as well, hope we live long enough to see Overwatch work in Wine.

It has problems, but it says a lot about an OS when you'd rather work through the problems than switch back to something that just werks

Mint has been compromised a few times (the hacked iso and fucked repository come to mind) and generally you don't find anything in the repository that you won't find in Ubuntu last I checked.

I just briefly tried some distros for a few days, but came back to windows like a beaten wife because of video games. What I remember surprising me the most was ktorrent, it performed miles better than any client on Windows. Or maybe it was accidental and I'm jumping to conclusions, but still.

Sad reality is that I'm such a gamer that I'm always loning for games which are not made for Linux or do not even work for Wine.

BTW. Everyone. Linux Mint is the easiest transition OS from Windows to Linux. I dont need to change to other Linux OS's because I never liked coding, and I never wanto to become "fluent in linux"

my experience with it was miserable, went back to 7 after about a year of pure suffering. nothing works like it does on 7, all the menus are fucked up and obtuse, theres tons of bugs and crashes.. I had a bluescreen once trying to change my wallpaper, for christs sake. Got booted off a game more than once because of updates. Stuff like minimizing from the taskbar and other basic shit not working properly. Generally felt sluggish on 16gb of ram and SSD, 7 feels much faster and responsive. The UI looks awful, you can't use a classic theme like in every other version.

just use 7 unless you absolutely must play all the Windows 10 exclusive games (which there are like 5 right now).

I use w10 on my laptop (& w7 for desktop) and i never had a problem with it. (Just disabled Cortana and Telemetry as soon i got it though)

Mac user here, bought an iMac a month ago and decided to install Windows 10 to play games I used to play when I was in high school

holy shit this is bad on some points. This is just a gaming partition so I don't do browsing or anything, I just play game. First thing lacking is the virtual iso player that was in W7. It was cool, I don't know why they removed it.
Second of all, wtf is going on with the antivirus ? The OS ask me to go admin mode or to accept some stuff way too much, I feel like I'm loosing time. I know what I'm doing, stop asking me. Oh, and sometime the OS just don't want me to delete files or to move them, just like that.

Last one, but there's a very “freemium“ feeling of the OS. There's ads in the menu and it comes with a shitty antivirus that keeps telling me it expired and that I should pay because I'm not protected or something. That's annoying, it shouldn't come with something like that included.

Other than that I don't really have to complain. The apple trackpad got bugs but I guess it's apple fault for not making good drivers. And I like the MacOS keyboard better but that's probably because I'm used to it.

TL;DR : Great for games but I won't use it as my everyday OS.

Because it's legally free, way less bloated than the alternatives, has incredibly convenient software repositories and respects your privacy. In fact, you should only ever launch Windows to play a video game and shut it down immediately after you're done.
