Yes. With spear even peasant can kill top-tier noble.
Your a faggot.
Case closed.
Having distance is always good, it's why Muhammad Ali was so successful.
Spears are the weapon of cavemen and nubians.
A true warrior that follows Bushido is worthy is a blade.
Fucking casual, it's:
spear > sword
sword > axe
axe > spear
>that stupid run and jump attack that was in every fucking tv show and movie for like 10 fucking years
God I hate that shit, that and the slow motion bullshit are both sure signs of shitty direction.
Spears are great and all but that webm is retarded.
>the nog has a spear
Samurais used spears you fucking mong.
Samurais actually used bow and arrow more than any other weapons.
The shirtless fabio imposter didn't even hold up his shield to defend himself. If he had been worth a wet shit we would have either
a) grabbed the spear, thus wresting control of it from his enemy
b) used his shield, closed the distance and stabbed him.
Spears are a formation weapon, not necessarily good if you're going one on one and your opponent has a shield.
>has a shield
>can't block a fucking polearm
Jesus...
You're talking about peasant soldiers.
Can't remember what they were called.
>conscripted peasants used spears
fixed
Ashigaru, of course!
I mean, Bow Samurai are pretty OP but you really want a Yari wall as well to tie down the AI so you can charge their side
Ashigaru i assume you mean.
But samurai also used spears.
Didn't plate armor make most weapons obsolete, you needed stuff like warhammers and axes for the impact or a dagger to go for exposed area.
>and axes
I think you meant maces, axe is like the worst weapon you can use against plated armor.
Where is this shit from?
People that do choreography in movies dont get that shields are used for protection.
Not for style points.
There's a reason swords were traditionally a backup weapon. They're a lot more lethal. Most ancient warfare was a game of tactical maneuvering across the battlefield to flank and crush and divert, it wasn't just brutal killing. Generals 2000 years ago were just as disinterested in seeing their men die as generals are today.
If you're uninterested in seeing your men die, wouldn't you have them use this "a lot more lethal" weapon so they can kill the enemy before they get killed?
>viking putting full momentum on his blade arm as black has pommel ready
>viking telegraphs attack instead of holding shield up for lunge attack
>not keeping his shield near body mass in the first place
Jesus christ this choreography is horrid.
If you want to get technical, samurai used a fuckton of different weapons.
But most of the time it was either sword or bow. Let's not forget that a sword was a samurai's soul or some shit.
Looks like Game of Thrones or some other dumb show.
spears
defense > offense
swords
offense > defense
Game of Thrones
If a logic can be found in this; The guy with the armor and spear is the city-state's current arena champion and this was the first fight of the day for him.
The guy with a shield is a nameless slave thrown in to fill out the ranks of the melee.
You'd generally set up a line of halberders/spearmen in front of your archers and let the arrows do the killing.
On open field, yeah sure
Indoor though, that's a different story
What now spear fags
It's also obvious that those strikes with the spear do not connect.
They relied too much on camera position instead of putting more effort into the fight.
Battles were usually won by causing the enemy to rout. The most efficient method of breaking lines isn't necessarily to charge in and kill as many people as possible (although that helps) but to split different contingents of enemy soldiers apart and force them to retreat. Battle = Human herding
In fact, the vast majority of casualties happened once the enemy routed, as they were easy to follow on horseback and strike down
Dagger + Whip combo > Swords
A man of taste, I see.
The English Longbow was better than anything the chinks came up with
They're a lot more lethal in the sense that soldiers of either side would be far more exposed to getting hacked to death if they were swinging swords within arm's length of each other. Also, charging at a line of spearmen with swords is probably going to end with a bunch of piked dead soldiers. If armies (thousands to tens of thousands strong) won by simply killing the other into nonexistence, most armies wouldn't actually survive more than a single battle, and I'm talking about the losers and winners both.
Are there any tv shows with swords that actually have good fight choreography
Maria the Virgin Witch
Too much camera movement
all I want is a movie with good sword fight choreography and nice still cameras that do a bit of panning at the most, like in Jackie Chan's early Chinese movies
...
Yeah, isn't the whole 'armies slaughtering eachother' thing mostly Hollywood? As in, armies would skirmish till some sort of point was proven and a retreat would happen. Even if you won a fight, you could be victim to some other army preying on your sudden weakness because you can't train up new fighters easily in those days.
Maces > everything else
what's this from?
>axe > spear
In what world?
>Not grappling your opponents
Plebes, the lot of you.
That sort of thing was only really achievable because Jackie Chan and his co-stars were actual martial artists. I don't think there are too many actors with fencing or HEMA experience around, the only one I know of is Sean Bean.
Fire Emblem
>that one episode when ermey charges on horseback and bashes a steel plated helmet in with a Damascus steel mace
>got stabbed by spear from gorillion kilometers away while trying to close the distance
Halberd master race.
Whats this from?
You can lance your spear at me all you want but I can hook it, chop it, counter it and even throw my axe at you if it's weighted properly.
Those battles were pretty cool. I stopped watching it after a couple episodes though cuz Maria ended up being a cock hungry slut.
Why did he jump like that? What advantage did that give him lol
Why does the warrior not keep the shield in front of him
Why is the spearman swinging his weapon like it's a halberd?
this is some shit tier choreography
Was about to post this. Matt Easton knows his shit.
Bow & arrow > all
Ball & Musket > all
*ahem*
get fukked robin hood
Summed up all my thoughts too. What utter shit.
autism
Checkmate.
>have shield
>not use it
lel
>has a shield
>doesnt use it
Is this the logic of why axes beat spears in some games I wonder.
Shits so brutal, practice fights just have first to tap the other wins, but if you've got some impenetrable armor on, suddenly you're going wrestlemania on em ripping their joints apart and poking their eyes out.
There were some historical battles where armies were almost slaughtered to the man, but those were mostly results of one side being cornered and forced to fight or die or ideological. Such as Cannae and Agincourt.
the guy being dumb is probably the most realistic thing about the whole webm
wow, I actually know these guys...
>waves his shield arm around like an autistic retard, keeping it as far away from his vital organs as possible
>holds it for a brief moment in front of his lower torso
>"oh wait, he's about to stab me, I better move it back out of the way again"
I can't user you win
Axes are usually heavier and harder to control, but they deal more damage and have greater ability of armor penetration than swords. I think sword would be better against a speared opponent.
>hook it
???
>chop it
literally impossible
how do you chop a piece of wood pointed at you in combat situation? flail your axe like an idiot? great method of suicide
>throw
yeah! throw your weapon away! end em rightly!
great idea my man keep up
neat, small world
I was just thinking of chopping the haft of the spear. Not real thought out logic, but fire emblem for instance has axes at advantage against spears. Are there any games that show off retracted spear fighting?
Spear shafts are made of thick, strong wood, you're not going to be able to hack through one unless you hit it a dozen or so times in the same place
Spears are more prone to breaking or getting stuck in an opponents body than swords, also spears are much harder to use in confined spaces.
Different tools for different jobs
japanese longbows can be fired from horseback, berk.
>effective range of 50 meters
Sure thing, weeaboo
The video just explained you can hack through an ash spearshaft with three hard cuts with a sword. At an angle, not even straight on.
>that webm
I'm triggered.
I did watch the video which mentioned that. I was more wondering the logic of why fire emblem made axes better than spears, and that video mentioned the fallibility of the wooden hafts however small they may be.
Yeah, no, the strength of the wood is not the reason why that's not gonna work.
It's because it's being held in someone's hands on one end and not affixed to anything on the other.
If the spear was held in place at both ends by something sturdier than some peasant's grip you could render it unusable with a single chop easily, but it's not.
see
Apparently, three good chops with a sword will go through a spear shaft, even one will take a chunk out of it. Unless it has metal reinforcements all the way down (which will lead to it being heavy and unwieldy) it is entirely possible to hack through a spear shaft.
>howtousespearlikearetard.webm.
This desu senpai
like rockets and repeating crossbows?
No, but most commanders knew that retreating from a losing battle is better than letting all your men be killed for a few more dead enemies.
Most devastating battles were either commanded by idiots, had one side utterly trapped or were to chaotic for one side to realise that they were losing, which often resulted from point 1.
yep
Game of Thrones. That fight scene is probably the worst scene in the entire show.
>skilled user can hit up to 300 meters
The yumi had a similar range and lethality/accuracy to english longbows, since both entirely depend on a skilled user.
Also, not an argument, retard, since you claimed superiority when there are things the classic longbow cant even do.
Why is that nigger stealing achillies' signature move from Troy?
Halberds > Spears
Maces > Swords
Crossbows > longbows
My taste > Yours
>spearfags BTFO
Not the same user, but axes have a curved design under the base of the blade(s). Have you never seen an axe before? If you miss a lance thrust, the lance can easily get hooked by the axe.
Whatever you say, weebshit
European weaponry is much, much better than jap shit
Just stab the cunt, lel.
>Let's not forget that a sword was a samurai's soul or some shit.
That all came after the civil war when samurai did fuckall and were glorified middle managers
He shouldve used the cuhrazy run and jump attack
im pretty sure if they were actually going at each other he would just stab him
Not when it comes to bows, composite recurve bows are overall better, but longbows are better with heavier arrows.
