In all seriousness I love seeing characters grow. Komaru is my favorite protagonist for this reason. UDG also made Toko, of all fucking people, go from being my least liked character next to Kyoko to my favorite character overall.

Because that game actually gave Toko some screen time. In DR1 she's in situation when
1) Her skill is useless, which right off the bat makes her not relevant;
2) Her personality doesn't help her get together with someone. During investigations, everybody talkative do at least something, even if it's useless, just for the sake of being together. Toko prefers tailing Byakuya or hiding.
3) Genocider eats more than half of their shared screen time, making matters even worse.
Thus, you barely see anything positive about Toko, since on the surface it's screeching egoistic bitch. On one hand, it's kinda right way - you can't give character traits and make her forget them entirely for the sake of exposure for player, but on other hand, it's more or less shooting yourself in the foot.
