AUTOMATA

What is the best route?? Just finished 2B's,nso awesome

A and B are literally trash compared to C.

C, anyone telling you otherwise is braindead

I just finished the game for the first time and now I'm starting B route.

Will I play with 2B again in C and whatever comes after? If yes then I'm thinking I'll try to rush B route to the end asap and then start taking my time again in C because I really don't enjoy playing 9S.

Yeah you get to play as her again. Don't skip out on the sidequests though, I recommend you do Amnesia, the ones found in Pascal's village like the Shut in and Idiot Savant, and Emil's questline if you haven't done it yet.

Do they change at all with 9S or are there any sidequests that are 9S only? If the answer is no to both questions I really don't see why I should do them now instead of later/already done it before.

The one with the intro

The ones I listed are 9S only. After you beat Route B you won't be able to do the sidequests you missed until after you beat Route C where you unlock chapter select.

A and B are literally a prologue.

Will route C not have sidequests like the wandering couple around or something? I want to do all the quests in the game but quests that can be done with both I really, really don't wanna do as 9S. Fuck this kid.

>Do they change at all with 9S
New story details and twists when they get separated near the end, some banter with 9S' operator, and some more details about the machines, like a beautiful short story about the opera singer, or like a couple of useless scenes about the previous Forest King. So, not very much. Route C is the second part of the game and the continuation of routeA/B. When people talk about route D and E they are talking about endings.

>are there any sidequests that are 9S only?
Yes, I found them very enjoyable, but I'm among the people that liked the hacking parts.

> If the answer is no to both questions I really don't see why I should do them now instead of later/already done it before.
It depends on the quests themselves, the thing is that a lot of them end with good story bits, and some of those bits work better before ending the game, while others can safely be done whenever you want (when you end it you get a chapter selection menu). But, yeah, since most of them are pretty tedious, I wouldn’t blame you for skipping some. For example I don't agree with that user when he says to not skip Emil's one, it's pretty tedious and its story content bits are more linked to post game contents (secret high level bosses and such), it's one of the quests you can safely postpone, imo. I agree with him about the others he listed, though, and there are others, don't skip the 2 operators' quests for example, or the wandering couple.

Jackass is best route.

>Will route C not have sidequests like the wandering couple around or something?
In route C there are few new quests (like one that ends with a pretty entertaining scene of jackass going into full bully mode), but you can't do all the ones that can be started during route A/B for story related reasons anymore.

>really don't wanna do as 9S. Fuck this kid
That's actually a problem, try to like him, he's actually the most important character of the game.

Rushing route B is the biggest mistake you can make as it contains some of the most important side quests in the game. Calm your tits and don't rush things, waifufaggot.

Story spoiler:

It sucks that 2B died and that the Automata storyline literally can't go anywhere.
It was a fun game.

Did you finish the game?

>Calm your tits and don't rush things, waifufaggot.

Try actually finishing the game properly.

BTW, I suggest people that are playing the game and liking the gameplay to buy/pirate the DLC right now. It's not a big DLC and it's overpriced, but It has a part that gives remote controlling machines during the game a purpose, some contents that should be done during level 20-50 (so during the game), and other contents that should be played after post game (so after level 50), the latter is especially important since the base game has no contents specifically made for level 50-79, and, even more importantly, spoiler tag for people who want to play completely blindly A2 has few playable contents, so you can use the dlc contents to play as her, taunting and berserking as hard as you want, and to dick around with the level 4 weapons.
Yeah, it's all shit that should have been in the base game without paying any extra cent, but that's square for you, it's a niche game that was supposed to undersell, and so on.

Route c takes full advantage of the fact that you have done a and b as well as making them look meaningless in comparison

fucking japs why they have to remind me ill die alone

Must be an awful timeline where Ending E doesnt exist

Yep, as said A/B it's a prologue, it's meant to be the set up.

It's hilarious how people hate 9S when he's basically meant to be the player self insert character seeking revenge for him waifu.

This is everyone hating playing as Raiden from MGS2 all over again

Raiden was supposed to be a player self insert character seeking revenge for his waifu?

It was more him trying to keep her save

STOP MAKING THREADS BEFORE YOU'VE COMPLETED THE GAME ENTIRELY REEEEEEEE

am i the only one who really enjoyed route b?

playing the game as 9s felt like the intended way and closer to the original Nier

No he represents the player character as the newbie who wants to be as cool as solid snake and is in a solid snake simulation aka MGS. And the whole bait and switch marketing thing of course

Having to hack into enemies to do any significant damage is a bit jarring, but I do enjoy one-shotting the flying spinning faggots.

>A & B are a prologue
>you have to go through 30 hours to get the real game and then you can enjoy 5 hours of gameplay before it ends oh and btw getting the ending of C and D takes 10 minutes
lol

Nier strongly needed to cut some shit. There's no reason this game should have been longer than 10 hours.

I like how it clearly highlighted 9S as the real main character. He basically carries 2B through the whole thing except for when he get captured by Adam.

> jackass going into full bully mode
She just wants her people to be prepared. With bombs.

if you take the time to learn his combat style you dont even need hacking

his attacks are oriented towards medium range precise imputs instead of the close range spamming of 2b/a2

I've seen quite a few people who liked B route more than A, that includes some fairly good Automata analysis like the one of superbunnyhop.

With 2B i got kinda bored of her gameplay in first few hours. 9S has so many gimmicks and cool things going on for it i was discovering new stuff even on route C, like the fact enemies subjugated by him can be detonated by self-destruct instead of him. Coupled with his role in story, it really felt the way Taro actually intended this game to be played instead of half-assed character action gameplay of girls.

Though i generally prefer mage characters in games.

Finished it today, actually (E ending). Really liked it. Understood most of the story.
As a PCfag, I never played previous games, though, and am still missing some archives (namely, 4-8 Project Gestalt ones)
That's from the first Nier, right? Whats up with that? They tried to clone humans to preserve humanity? And whats up with the twins and Black Scrawl or something? Twins went berserk and unleashed a plague?

I thought it had some good moments, but I prefer 2B's combat style, and I was pretty down on how similar B was to route A, especially when I didn't think that Route C/D would be anything more than a last minute epilogue boss fight or two.

Post yfw

And even when he gets captured, it only happens because he's the one who actually wrecked Grun.
>that Eve battle
>9S manages to gain control over a part of machine network and uses the same metal fist attack against him

9S is the best character in the game, it's that simple.

The Devola and Popola units from the first game were basically used as scapegoats for everything that went wrong with the plan to save humanity from the disease that led to the apocalypse.

...

so they dindu?

...

The ones we see in the game are innocent.
Another pair actually fucked up, but the plan was flawed to begin with.

It can't, though, maybe at the begging of route C, but after the first parts he already reached a level of madness that is hardly relatable, then he basically becomes a walking broke hate machine. I liked that a lot, though, the scene with 2B's arm and the whole final part were pure madness.

>Hips wider than shoulders

Yep this needs to be more of a thing.

His moveset and overall combat just doesn't feel right. I have nothing against 9S himself but I'd rather kill things as 2B since it's like 5x more fun.

FUCK SQUARE ENIX

>whaaa I got too many hours for my money

>not A2 in Berserk with Deadly Heal and Offensive Heal +8

yeah i've seen that analysis. The first half is great but he lost me when he started analysing the entire story from a marxist point of view when it's made obvious that only the engels units and the surface of the factory are supposed to make refferences to that

It doesn't feel right if you won't adapt.
After a route B playthrough with a spear/large sword 9S i had a hard time switching back to 2B/A2 because their movesets have a painfully limited range compared to his Gae Bolg.

They failed to physically stop the people driving the conflict that eventually led to humanity's extinction.

But it wasn't really because they went insane or rogue so much as it was them dealing with a lot of unexpected issues regarding the man-made replicants.

They got a raw deal in both games.

>hear throughout all the game that machines are evil incarnate
>mfw Forest Kingdom on Route B
I didn't ask for these feels.

Anyone know where I can buy a hoodie like this?

Actually, the entire game happens 10k years after WW2, YoRHa androids are using Ho-229 flight units and Nazi-like uniform, Resistance members are armed with StG-44, while machines are represented by a collective consciousness, Marx/Engels machines made from work equipment and their most common colour is red so i can totally see where the marxism allusion comes from.

Yeah, I think 9S is great, but I'd much rather dual-wield than hack.

But then people would just bitch about it being too short.

So I wasn't the only one.

There's pretty much no difference between dual wield and one weapon styles aside from the lack of transition attacks, he has heavy combo too, after all.

I'd say that both gameplay styles have their quirks but i feel like 9S is way better adapted to any combat situation while 2B/A2 have some pretty annoying time with shit like drill worms. 9S can simply posses an enemy and traverse the areas peacefully too, which saves time if you don't want to fight the same encounters repeatedly.

i kinda got it while reading the engels records when he talks about the aliens (capitalists) having a common purpose incompatible with the machines (workers) who did all the work for no direct benefit other than existing

...

the exact same thing happened to me.

when you learn how to use 9s you cant come back to spamming square

>tfw the last choice in ending D is basically a choice between going with N2 or staying faithful to 2B

>directed by yoko taro appears
pictures cannot express how good that was

>a choice between going with Adam and Eve or staying faithful to 2B
Fixed that for you.

the whole route c intro is the best part of the game

...

>9S ends up being a hateful edgelord just like Eve
pottery

>So-Shi and Boku-Shi are the personal guardians of Adam and Eve
>Ko-Shi and Ro-Shi are the personal guardians of Terminal Alpha/Beta

>suffering rodeo

where did you got that?

He is pretty much a combo of Adam's mind and capacity for hatred and sheer desperation and grief Eve was capable of.
I honestly won't be surprised if N2 used 9S as a template while creating both of them as it was stalking him via backdoor for god knows how long already.

...

This, flight unit message and final revelation about 2B/9S is when i understood that Automata has some of the best love stories in vidya.

...

translate lad

I love the "ball designs related to superior beings" trope.

Man, that fucking part.

honestly I think 2B's final message in the flight pod was way worse
especially with 9S's english voice actor

I honestly just assumed that it was his hate speech verbatim.

I honestly don't understand the dislike for ball bosses. They are some of the most memorable ones in the game.
>that crazy Factory battle with Possessed by Disease playing
>cool as fuck fight near the Resistance camp when 9S saves the day again
>entire fucking Tower ascend culminating on final gattai of So-Shi and Ro-Shi

"Thats right...Let the hatred run through you!"

Or something like that, its basically the same thing he said on his boss fight.

A2 has a similar moment after reading the YoRHa stageplay summary on anemone's terminal but i don't know why they didn't put voice acting for that lines

it would've been as good if not a better moment

Best ending

>forgetting the ultimate ball boss

>if not a better moment
Nope.
Stageplay has a fairly good script but 9S' grief is the highest point of tragic storytelling in Automata.

YESSSSS!

...

She definitely has a good end if you catch my drift.

Oh shit, forgot about that.
OP, if you are still here, it's better if you do Emil's quest during route A/B, it has a consequence in a latter quest and I had forgotten about that here Now get out asap, people stopped using spoilers tags and this thread already has almost half of the story.

the way she worded that made it better for me

something like "I have to finish some things here but i'll be joining you soon"

sure does

Wow, I'm playing the game wrong

the pod charge slowmo is op as fuck

>that crazy Factory battle with Possessed by Disease playing
Neat mid boss.
>Cool as fuck fight near the Resistance camp when 9S saves the day again
Pretty neat as part of that sort of boss rush that was the final part of route A.
>entire fucking Tower ascend culminating on final gattai of So-Shi and Ro-Shi
Those are the balls that I disliked, they would have been fine as bosses of one of the secondary towers, not as the final conventional boss of the game. A more complex boss that used the 9S/A2 switch mechanic better was absolutely needed.

I wish that Anenome got involved with things after her backstory was revealed.

>hacking ended instantly
how

it's edited

DEVOLA AND POPOLA DID NOTHING WRONG
