Only ever played a little bit of 2 which seemed pretty solid, and Gat Out of Hell which genuinely surprised me since I only downloaded it because it was "free" on PS+ but had a total blast with it.

Any of the other ones worth playing?

Part of the reason I liked it was the over the top silliness. Is 2 the good one?

Saints Row was always a birdmen tier game anyway, one the GTA clones. They accidentally made a quality game with 2 and then went completely off the rails because they didn't understand why 2 was even good

My headcanon is that the earth didn't get blown up during Saints Row 4. Fucking Volition practically wrote themshelves into the corner with that one. If they had more clever writing, it could've actually just been simulation-out-of-the-simulation.

I loved SR1 simply because it had a foil to Gat in our lord and savior Dex.

I felt that way about 3. 2 is too serious for me. 4 is too fucking absurd. 3 is just right.

I haven't played it but I heard the earth is restored in Gat Outa Hell. but you're right there's only so far you can escalate before you're like "ok where can you possibly go from here?"

I beat SR2 every two years or so.

I definitely consider it one of my top 3s. Stilwater as a city was absolutely brilliant and the all the work Volition put into all the NPCs and the various districts was amazing.

Saints Row The Third was one step forward and three steps back, unfortunately.

I think it's fun in the "look where the saint's started" kinda deal.
SR3 wouldn't have been as bad if the fact that they used to be a fucking Street gang performing drive-bys was addressed better.

I have beat SR1 an embarrassing amount of times, yet I still fail to see how you'd consider it better than the original.

Aside from neutering the drug/booze mechanics, and arguably slightly downgrading the clothing aspect, SR2 is straight up just a better game.

Though some people prefer SR1 due to its better multiplayer, which is perfectly legitimate.

GTA just outsold them. By SAs time you had loads of clones, Saint's Row being one of them, but GTA IV was just so fucking huge that nothing could feasibly compete, except for the little niche carved by Sleeping Dogs, which was killed due to Squeenix being a bunch of faggots as per usual, and I'm sure I don't need to go into GTA Vs success.

I've played through the game 4 times, listened to that radio station a lot and never triggered this. Is there something special you have to do?

Is there a mod for SR2 that let's me skip all the minigames? I've tried playing that game like three times and always quit because I'm forced to do minigames before I can start the next mission.

It fixes almost everything for single player. Co-op is still almost unplayable with GotR.

Driving controls are still fucked. Performance is still fucked. Game is still riddled with bugs. You are still expected to sabotage your own PC to get the game to run just a little bit more stable. It is still virtually unplayable on PC and I don't understand how anyone can stomach that awful port.

Not really. The game is poorly optimized and i get dips with a 1070 and a 3570k. Part of the game is tied to the CPU speed (this hasnt happened since fucking DOS games).

Also no official support of the DLC that connect 2 and 3. Only 1/3 of the missions ported in Gentlemen of the Row, without cutscenes or sounds.

I'm fucking amazed no one has made a GTA/SR-style open world game that focuses mostly on gang activity, taking over areas, starting up businesses, firefights.. I mean yeah, there was some in San Andreas and some in the Saint's row games but it never really felt like it was the focus. I'd like a game that's almost a mix of management/strategy and 3rd person open world.

the godfather 2 Don view was the closest thing to that. A lot of people hated that game but i enjoyed it for what it was. There's a pc version if you're interested.

What I'm thinking off is to focus more on the gang parts. It feels like for every SR game they make, they remove more fun stuff. Suddenly you can't buy cribs, you take over areas of the city by doing (admittedly funny) sideactivities instead of actually taking them over, you can't customize anything anymore etc.

Saints row 2 is great but it runs like absolute dog shit and I can't forgive it for that reason

In this case CDPR closed the studio that did the port, all their stuff is probably put away in storage and just nobody could be bothered sifting through it. That's assuming they didn't just wipe the computers and sell them at auction or something.

Seriously speaking, "we lost the source code" really means "the guy who knew where it is left a long time ago and we really just have better things to do than to send someone to find it". Depending on how much crap a company has accumulated over the years you are talking someone spending days, weeks or even months digging through archives, I'm sure the company would rather be paying them to do their actual job.

Can somebody help? I messed with cheats in SR3 and achievements aren't unlocking now. I deleted my cheat saves and did the hex fix but it still doesn't work.

Volition didn't do the port, a CDPR owned studio did. They were probably the only ones to have the PC port source code. THQ maybe had a few builds and the master, that's about it. Neither of these entities exist anymore.
