I've always suspected that they never really intended for the games to be super lewd to begin with. Burst and SK2 were pretty tame. They even wore swimsuits under their clothes instead of underwear, so the clothing damage wasn't all that explicit. SV was also considered just an alternate canon spin-off until the Versus games proved popular. There's also tons of lore in the official artbooks that never really gets covered in the games.
I strongly suspect that Takaki wanted the series to stay somewhat more serious like Burst but switched gears when the Versus games turned a profit.

Valkyrie Drive Bhikkhuni is the best one on PC. Not the same series but basically a clone by the same producer, recently just few weeks back.
Senran Kagura only speaking, SK2 is the best which is only on 3DS. Just get the rhythm game or ignore this series.
