why aren't there anymore mercenary management games like Jagged alliance?
Why aren't there anymore mercenary management games like Jagged alliance?
Why spend money creating a strange flavor of icecream when you can simply sell vanilla.
Because people get curious when strange shit is edible
ok, on topic. because it's all in the TOO HARD basket.
the closes we have is the new shadowruns, and they're LIGHT as fuck.
look at how we're NEVER getting another mech commander, EVER.
even the upcoming BT 3025 is watered down to fuck. with each pilot having four stats and ONE special ability. no bias for TYPES of mechs OR weapons
Go pick up Door Kickers, user.
cause you can't surpass perfection
on a related note.
I'm about to assault madina with my AIM , arulcan and Bombardier hvy weapon teams.
v 1.13 seems to point you at assault rifle carbines as the best 'option' ... but i decided to try something 'retarded' and gave my guys p90's.
>jesus fuck do they rip through everything.
Buzz LOVES hers, she turns anything she shoots at into chunky swiss cheese.
and coupled with dyneema body armour et al, it's light enough that they can almost all always move and shoot each turn.
yeah, it's nice, but its a SWAT simulator. What I want is a "A go to a third world country with a team of mercenaries and shoot the local people for money" simulators
the only other games that'll get even slightly close to that is 'hard west' which is a
> 'survive RNG bullshit in a fictionalised 'west'
you can play fallout tactics and or wasteland 2 for
>postapocalyptic grimdark
flavour...
and of course, MC 1 and 2. if you've not tried those. they're great. mech commander 2 is out of licence and stealable for free, no one owns the rights anymore. so feel free to dl it off the net. good luck getting MC1 tho. they're both of the
>fly in your space ships to third world world's all over the glaxay to shoot stompy rombots in your stompy robots with your team of merc mechwarriors.
silent storm and 7.62 are pretty good
I remember there was an old series called Incubation: something a rather
yeah also breach and clear
Mc2 has omnitech mod that fixes bugs and other shit.
MC1 has remastered gold made by the same guy who made omnitech I believe
Because, like it or not almost no one plays those kind of games, old players grew up. Young ones are shitheads who are a bunch of casuals
>silent storm
played it a lot
>7,62
currently playing it. Really wish the FPS would not drop to shit during big battles.
found it on gog but it comes in a bundle
gog.com
Doorkickers>>>Breach&Clear
>there will never be a true sequel for JA2
Just fucking end my life
also Brigade E5: New Jagged Union
It's the previous game from 7.62 creators and even the subtitle gives you an idea of what to expect
well
theres always Urban Chaos to fall back on
>7.62
>Brigada E3
real time pause was a mistake
>Brigada E3
what is this? google gives me some weird tv miniseries
he meant Brigade E5. 7,62 is the sequel to that game
yeah that.
I don't know why I typed E3
the laptop you use in JA2 gives me immense nostalgia
ahh, thanks
Just started a new game after finishing it years ago. Is it just me or does everyone walk slow as fuck? Takes so many turns just to get anywhere. I don't remember it being like this before. Maybe because I'm running it at 1440p instead of 800x600.

You are now creating your IMP
>TIME TO TAKE OUT THE TRASH.
How can other voices even compete?
Jagged Alliance 2 really doesn't work well with current operating systems, like windows 8 or 10
>LOOKS LIKE WE'VE GOT SOME INCONVENIENCES TO DISPOSE OF!
I'm kinda partial to the first voice
>mfw I play on sci-fi for the first time and the Crepitus show up
I tried to be nice and let Ira be the one to kill the old hag. She immediately fucked up twice in a row and then Deidranna fucking one-shotted her.
I thought it was oddly appropriate.
>not "IT'S TIME FOR THE ENEMY TO SAY IT'S PRAYERS"
Shit man I can hear it in my head.
god I wish military games now had the same cheesy themes as they did back then
do modern military games even exist at this point aside of ARMA which became jack of all trades? Aside of boring online FPS games
people forgot how to have fun
>talks shit about you in Russian
Пpoклятый кaпитaлиcт, я бyдy нa тeбя paбoтaть.
Ivan is such a tsundere.
real time sounds like a good idea, but it just turns out you just have to pause way too much, from what i've played of doorkickers
I think it worked in FTL though, because combat is so simple that it's easy to keep track of everything
>tfw you're Russian and you know exactly what he is saying
SHE'S EVIL
>tfw no Silent Storm game based in modern days
>sounds
that's the exact problem
when devs already committed to it it's hard to go back. It gives an illusory feeling that "soon, soon we'll get it right!"
but in the end they never do.
As you said - it does works in some games, but they need to be really simple for that to happen. Otherwise it's becomes an unbalanceable mess.
>JA2 was my first official russian licensed jewel I bought
They all talked on russian for me, pretty good VA honestly.
what the fuck did he mean by this?
Wasteland 2 isn't even remotely similar. It's also quite bad.
I want new Fallout Tactics
My first Jagged Alliance was Jagged Alliance 2 Unfinished Bussines in Russian. The VA was pretty damn good. But after I played the english version, the biggest suprise for me was how Steroid sounded. In the russian version he was soft spoken, intelligent sounding and a bit of a fast talker.
Come the English version and he's fucking Ahnold
Good! Maybe there'll be some males to shoot.
GODDAMIT TO HELL
Which is why monk is superior in every way
Yeah, Russian translation was surprisingly good. It's kinda amusing how Russian Ira was calm, cute and definitely not so fucking annoying compared to original.
also
>changed voices in JA2 Gold
Absolutely disgusting.
>I see you
STEROID GONTARSKI HEAH
>Wildfire mercs
oh fuck no
>Robert Gontarski is
>UNAVOIDABLE
His answering machine message even sounds like a movie trailer, albeit one of a Seagal movie rather than Ahnuld.
>Unfinished Business
never clicked with me after original, too small map, not as motivated story wise, etc.
yeah, I was too surprised when I heard Ira in English for the first time years later
v 1.13 or bust.
>HELLISH ASS!
>ASS! ASS! ASS!
What did he mean by this?
this guy has some problems
what a madman
BISCUITS
PUSSY
>Scully has 8 ex-wives and 21 children
what the fuck
The way he hold the gun has always been triggering me.
>replayed vanilla JA2
>the game is still as good as I remember
>gave 1.13 a chance
>captured Drassen
>60 enemies in the sector
>THE ARMY! I KNEW THEY WOULD SHOW UP SOONER OR LATER!
>got my mercs on a rooftop
>enemies can't hit shit, but still managed to kill a dozen of their own with suppresion fire
>enemies are scared shitless and running out of ammo
I don't even know how am I supposed to feel about this
I like it, can't go back to the turn based system after getting used to Real Time Pause. I
>Bunch of conscripts with a couple of elites trying to take on a bunch of pro mercenaries on and failing
I mean. What did you expect. Also you can turn off the counter attacks in the ini settings. Or just change how many enemies can be active in the sector
>playing v1.13
>capture Drassen
>train up some militia, it's still early so head to the nearest mine afterward.
>take the mine, head back to Drassen to resupply.
>60 strong enemy group attacks just as I arrive.
>8 mercs surrounded by conscripts, can't retreat.
>fight gloriously to the last man, taking half the enemy with me.
Then I reloaded my save and figured out how to avoid that.
>he
Wait, it's a man? I've always thought it was a woman.
ArmA 3's mod called Antistasi scratched that itch pretty hard for me. Best played with a buddy.
Well, it makes sense if you look at it this way. Elites were atleast trying to get closer to my mercs.
Also
>finishing remaining enemies in the sector
>there is one guy left and he's trying to flee
>send one of my mercs to kick his ass
>what could possibly go wrong?
>motherfucker suddenly turns around, kicks my merc and successfully flee from the sector
I love this magnificent bastard.
>Late game loadouts
yeah 1.13 does a lot of amazing things and is pretty much the only way I can play JA2 anymore, but the amount of enemies can get crazy at times. You end up getting swarmed by inaccurate pistol fire way outside of it's effective range, even worse if they manage to land that magical 5% headshot by sheer volume of fire.
How can Razor be so good when he can't fucking shoot?
>Find SAM Site closest to first drop-off point.
>Go in at night with Scully, Shadow, and Monk done up with full body paint and camo gear, carrying AS Vals.
>Cut the wire fence, sneak in through an unattended door.
>Work my way through the building killing as many guards as quietly as possible.
>Make it to the control room, alarm gets sounded, kill everyone in the room then hole up behind cover with weapons pointed toward each entrance.
>Slowly pick off the guards that make their way to the control room.
>Last guard runs into the room and does something that triggers a game crashing bug.
>Last save was outside the wire.
>Tell myself I'll try it again later.
>Never do.
The new aiming system is fucking garbage, though.
>scope has 99 marksmanship
>misses at point blank range half the time
>you can recruit Mike in 1.13
Oh shit
Probably trying to use a sniper rifle with the scope too. Long range shooting gear is ass for close range in NAS
