One of the reasons I disliked this game was Aloy was apparently an outcast who only ever talked to rust, but she could read conversations really well, was fast to come up with solutions, and was super koy.
She was literally too good at conversation for me to believe she was some outcast who nobody ever talked to.
Only the tribe shunned her, she talked to other outcasts but most of them probably died while she was growing up.
I thought it was against tribal law for outcasts to talk to each other, that's why that one mountain hermit lady refused to talk to her, and instead talked to the "all mother" instead.
It's rare that I actually have disdain for a character's name.

I actually just picked this up after having little to no interest, but it was 30 bucks and I decided why the fuck not. I'm actually having a lot of fun playing the game, I don't like any of the characters and could honestly at this point care less about the story, but I like the mechanics and the combat. I'm playing on Very Hard or whatever it was called Ultra maybe? It can be downright cruel at times, but I like having to use all the tools at my disposal. I also am always a sucker for any game that allows me to break parts of enemies.

It's good. It's not much of an RPG because you don't make hardly any decisions, but that's okay. Just call it an ARPG. It's like Witcher 3 meets Far Cry 3 meets Lost Planet.
The robot dino combat is awesome. The big ones are like roaming boss fights. Music isnt much, but the main quest story gets surprisingly good and I enjoyed watching the cutscenes for it.
It is cringey-feminist at times though, kinda like Wonder Woman was if you saw that. Most men in the game are incompetent morons if they arent villains.
The graphics are phenomenal. Fighting is much better and more immersive if you turn off most of your HUD, including enemy awareness indicators and enemy life bars.

Man I just started playing this game and I'm so mad, I've been reading her name as the same pronunciation as Alloy because I figured it was a pun. Heard Rost shout Ayloy and it ruined my game.
Really though what's ruining the game for me is the absolutely awful voice acting and animation. I will say the gameplay is pretty solid so far, though I'm not a fan of the Witcher senses for following tracks. The animation and voice work is really shoddy though, on all characters not just Aylmao
The thing that bothered/disappointed me the most was how at the beginning Aloy is acting all holier than thou and shit, and Rost takes her aside in what seems to be a pivotal heartwarming moment and tells her that the proving goes both ways -- she'll be accepted but she also has to accept the Nora as her people, tolerate them and protect them. I kept expecting there to be this character arc where she acts all smug throughout the game, only to finally have it blow up in her face at the worst possible moment, then she learns her lesson, grows up, etc. Instead it just goes ALOY YOU'RE THE BESTEST MOST SPECIALLEST SNOWFLAKE THAT EVER EXISTED AND EVERYTHING YOU DO IS BEAUTIFUL GURL AND YOU'RE LITERALLY INCAPABLE OF MAKING ANY KIND OF MISTAKES OR POSSESSING ANY FLAWS

I found the game fun__ but it has little replay value. Once I completed all sidequests which was pretty straightforward I finished the MQ and put the game back in my library.
It's also kind of weird since it's supposed to be a post apoc game of some sort but there is no such thing as resource scarcity because you always find fucktons of resources so you never have to be worried about running out of shit.
Might buy the DLC as well depending on the price and duration.

What is really impressive is the amazing post-launch communication and support by Guerrilla Games. They respond directly to questions via reddit or twitter, they keep pumping out patches to fix QoL stuff that people suggest, with the NG+ and Ultra Hard difficulty given for free last week. Monster hunter inspired combat mechanics. Weak points, weakness and buildup to elemental states (stun/knock down/fire/armor debuff), destroy limbs to get loot or change attack patterns, monster loot tables, you craft all your consumables from monster loot, and a pretty good narrative

Battles are quick, can overstock resources with very little grinding, economy is kind of broken, besides having a limited loadout and damage reduction there isn't really any customization, little side content, a few of the towns only involve a single side quest, there's nothing to do if you get there early, can't interact with irrelevant npcs
Even if you try to make it last long, there just isn't a reason to keep playing after you beat the story. Combat and narrative was good, just wish there was more to do and think about. Game would've been a 10/10 with custom protagonist, random encounters, more side content, more boss variants, armor customization, stat sheets, and more grinding, everything they didn't borrow from monster hunter

None of these adventure-focused, item-gathering simulators feature a good standard of combat, they only need the combat to be of an acceptable/mediocre standard. The combat is only there to give the average player the sense of interactivity and progression during their grind. It's like you've never played any of the action-focused games they take their combat from, where those games live and die, are judged, on the basis of their combat alone (practically).
