I am unable to enjoy this game :(
why?
I am unable to enjoy this game :(
why?
born too late
you are a millenia thats why
Why are you not enjoying it?
it's an unbalanced mess made by shitty developers, what did you expect
i dont know user
I think you're right, I'm too young for this.
because it's a terrible meme game
>over 30
>still posting on Sup Forums
wew lad
weren't there patches for Win7 around?
It's not as good as nostalgiafags pretend it is and it never was.
I replayed F2 like 20 times over the years, can't get farther than two hours in with F1, I just drop it at some point without thinking about it.
Fucking hell, i just bought Fallout 1 and 2 a few days ago because everyone kept saying that it is amazing and all and for god's sake, it's horrible. What the hell do people see in these games? I heard some fans say that the story is amazing and all but i just can't get into it. It's just boring as hell.
Story wise 1 & 2 are very good games. Game play wise they have aged horrible. You not being able to play it is the result of growing up in an age of refined game play mechanics. Plus, isometric games aren't necessarily all that popular these days, that could be a contributor.
I can enjoy the second one, but not the first one
TB combat is an acquired taste.
Old timers were force fed it and deal with it.
You did not grow up in the dark age of gaming and have not acquired a taste for it.
Cue the "I just bought this and think it is the greatest game ever" post
Every
Fucking
Time
Nostalgia, this place is full of nostalgiafags, if you are going to try a old game you never played just pirate it and see if you like it.
Casualization. It made you realize that spreadsheet sims never were fun, but a strong but simple gameplay is genuine fun.
I like New Vegas best, cant wait for the Frontier to come out.
Because you like penis
Greatest argument in the thread.
Because of the setting, quests, the freedom in making the post-atomic character you want, the enemies and combat descriptions, abusing the system for crazy OP combo and everything fitting together.
Fallout2 is the better one to start off with though.
Me too - I think this is because I played Fallout 2 before 1. The environments are much more attractive and well designed in 2, going into 1 felt like such a huge step backward.
Because for todays average game its not good, you can chesse it with 10 int/agi build and meme your way into endgame. Also game is slow as fuck, it was good for that time but now its kinda meh.
I understand that the game is old (and it even make the game worse these days), but what i don't get is that it isn't great. I didn't even find it to be good at all. All i got was some dark humor (that was fun here and there), a boring as hell combat, and boring gameplay in general. I got past the village part and stopped at the first city. Is it even worth continuing? Does the story get so much better after that? Because if not, i really don't see what's so great about it.
Once you get to see a bunch of different quests, learn to use the skills (and discover unexpected results) and acquire a bunch of different weapons it's pretty fun.
If you're looking for some deep ass story you're looking at the wrong series.
Really? Because all i see are people saying that the story is deep and amazing. Oh, well, since i bought it, i'll keep playing it just for the sake of doing so. It's actually difficult to understand when people say the "story" is amazing. What do they mean by that? That the characters are amazing? The plot? The overall atmosphere? The pacing? It seems it means something different to each person.
>Because all i see are people saying that the story is deep and amazing.
Fallout1 and 2? No. never. The fun is the exploration, the story/goal is just a reason to go out doing shit.
Fallout's story is never deep nor amazing. Jokes are references and the plot is quite easy to understand and get into. The cool thing about the series are the world and the factions.
I hate this board ao much.
At first, I wasn't feeling it because of how it looked, but eventually I got over it and because that was a stupid mindset to have and I enjoyed the game immensely. Much more than when I first played New Vegas. I have to get around to playing 2 though, I heard its even better.
you dont suffer from nostalgia
it plays like shit, not a surprise
2 is like everything Fallout has but improved twice or three times over.
You can do and be basically everything, lots of interesting quests and locations. You can be a detective, a ranger, a slaver, a trader, a mafia thug, a boxer, a porn start. You can solve mysteries desecrating tombs, selling yourself to gain favours, join the military or become a Kenshiro fist-blasting lone wanderer.
>You were critically hit by Super Mutant for 300 damage
Because isometric and turn-based combat is quite possibly the most boring combination to use in your game.
It's an older game, made to express creative desires and tailored to a market that both don't really exist anymore. The UI is clunky, and the game has a learning curve quite a bit steeper than what is considered normal today. Its ideas about how information is given to the player and how the player is expected to handle it belong firmly in the late 90s. This is not to say the game is bad or you're a bad person or whatever. No, it's a game meant for people who cut their gaming teeth on games like Wasteland, Ultima, and Wizardry. It spearheaded a revival of interest in RPGs but those games continued to change as the years went by, and what's called an RPG today is radically different.
I can point to things I like better about this game and its sequel, things only a few others following it really did well (particularly Gothic, Planescape: Torment and Morrowind) and wonder if something like it will ever come along again, and feel dissatisfaction at the state of gaming today. The late 90s really was a golden age, and you don't ever know you're in one until you're gone, looking back at it and seeing how nothing's been like that since.
Don't feel bad, the game does have a list of flaws worth talking about, so maybe a digest of its themes or a learned discussion of its mechanics would be better for you if it's just not fun.
I guess I'm going to have to fire it up after I'm done with NV. Are spear throwing builds a thing?
Throwing kinda sucks. Unarmed is surpisingly awesome in 2 tough, the more points you put in the skill the more "attacks" you unlock, starting from basic things like jabs and haymakers and going to 8ap attack kicks that automatically knock the enemy miles away.
I'm 1,000 years old and what is this?
Because it's aged poorly. Most of the love from Sup Forums comes from children who adore NV so much they proclaim the first two fallouts as masterpieces too despite not playing them.
Oh, that could work too. I loved unarmed in NV.
it's slow, the combat is almost abstract, it's brown and depressing and it has a time limit for the main quest.
Still one of the best games ever
Because it takes about 5 minutes tonkill one fucking rat
No one will ever say this, but sometimes. Sometimes. Of no fault of your own. You simply won't like something someone else does. This radical concept no matter how many times it's attacked is the absolute truth.
It's okay OP. You're not any less than anyone else for your gaming preference. However you are lesser than most because you're an enourmous faggot for making this thread to begin with.
Me too.
The posts in this thread alone show the average fucktard that has metastasized their way into calling Sup Forums home can't handle a simple TBRPG. That's like someone on /o/ being incapable of driving manual, or someone on /m/ being incapable of watching 0079.
It's practically the barebones minimum for your opinion to have any value among people that actually play video games, and people still struggle with it.
It's not very good compared to the other CRPGs of the late 90s.
It's easy, short and shallow, with a mediocre plot. Only good part is the Master and the ending (no troll. I liked the ending).
I haven't played FO2, and I've heard it's better. But I'd just play PS:T or Morrowind instead.
FO2 is a trillion times better, makes F1 feel like an alpha.
You're seriously missing out.
It's on my to-do list. I'm getting there at some point.
Sup Forums has not been a niche board for video games for a long time
Because the combat is pure shit and extremely unenjoyable for a non-squad-based isometric crpg. I skipped FO1 and 2 when they came out and in 2013/14 it took me like 4-5 tries and 10++ hours of forcing myself to play them to start enjoying them. RPG elements and writing are great though and they are still worth the effort imo, they just happen to be the shittiest isometric crpg's when it comes to enjoyable combat.
The worst part is that every time a thread like this is made there are more and more shitposters too dumb to appreciate this game. Other people read and believe the drivel they spout and one day that drivel is going to be considered true.
>go to The Glow
>now can't leave the area without dying of radiation poisoning
>the last save slot is like 10 hours earlier
>mfw
I know older games are supposed to be harder, but c'mon man.
you do know that sometimes the glow can mutate you and make all your stats max out?
>the last save slot is like 10 hours earlier
You only have yourself to blame.
>>the last save slot is like 10 hours earlier
Should've saved before going in, not the game's fault you didn't do that.
I have like 3 other save slots but they're all in The Glow.
guess I ain't lucky enough
Anyway I gtg, peace
happened to me as well, but it's our own fault for not bringing anti radiation medication in a place called THE GLOW.
There's lots of rad-x and radaway in the lower levels of the Glow, and fucktons of great loot. You can do it, user.
Save scumming is for feggits.
wait what? For real? I think you're rusing me.
That's fine that you're not enjoying it. It's even better that you're shit posting about it.
Because the gameplay fucking sucks. Not even BG1 was as bad.
It's a hell of comfy RPG.
I feel sad for you kids sometimes, especially the millennials.
and now I have to fap. Fuck you.
>I got past the village part and stopped at the first city.
You didn't even scratch the surface. However, if you dislike it so much at the start, you'll probably dislike everything else.
It really needs a remaster, just some scroll wheel support would made it 10 times more playable
