Dropped the series after 4. Currently going through the games I missed starting with Syndicate.
Only cleared the first Burrough and got the train. London feels pretty boring honestly. The combat isn't brain dead "hold counter to win" so that's nice I guess. Hate the new free running though.
I'll probably start Rogue after and then Unity.

He died before Black Flag. Dropped the series after that because that's when I was certain it was never going to end.

Even worse. Ezio's entire life's purpose was to deliver a message to Desmond so Desmond could fulfill the purpose of HIS entire life which was nothing else but to press a stupid button.

Yeah they carefully showed you both options and that you would have to choose and Desmond just went for it.
Maybe they actually planned it to be a choice but they weren't allowed to end the series. There was no way to continue if they kept it a choice

Recently caught up with AC, only played 1 on ps3 when it was released, remember most of the game was a drag

Black Flag is great, Unity too, best level design probably, Arno is just shit compared to Ezio and Kenway. Still not as bad as Shay "oi make me own luhk" Patrick Kekmack
Only thing I didn't like about the older games was the horrible pathing and combat.
Most of AC's combat is pretty much mashing 2 buttons because it needs to be sold to kids I guess but I thought Unity improved it a lot and looked way better than Black Flag on PC, felt more immersive than it's more arcady installments that were released before it.
Ofc Black Flag makes up for it with Naval combat, exploration and a better story / protagonist.

The ayy lmao story is going nowhere though it feels like, they can continu the Templar vs Assasin cat and mouse game for decades set in any given time period.

Ezio's story really is where the game peaked. The fact that we got to play an old man Ezio, or even an old man in a 'Triple A' game is pretty cool.

Seeing a character age as much as we did with his story doesn't happen much.

I thought it was even a bit better than Old Snake. Snake was always a bit grumpy and we never knew him as a rather innocent naive guy. Ezio was just that at the start of AC2. Well maybe not innocent but naive.

I'm glad this asshole is fucking dead, the fact 1 and 2 we're setting up a present day ass creed makes his dead even more enjoyable.

Not really. When he first started, he knew what he was supposed to do but didn't actually know how.

But he got better over time

It was actually a really interesting idea for a character, especially with the aging protagonist thing Ezio did. The guy in the future learns from his ancestors to fight Templars in the present (could have him restart the modern Assassin Order and lead up to a solo Desmond game).

But this was ruined by the fact that Desmond is the most generic piece of shit character I have EVER seen in a game. He's kind of a relic of an era where every AAA protagonist was faceless and interchangeable, but that's not an excuse when he's a vehicle for a globe-trotting time-traveling epic of a story. It's rare to see the ball dropped THIS hard on something so easy to make right.

It was pretty sad how Altair basically dedicated his life to the Assassins and the Apple and ended up losing his loved ones.
I kinda remember a scene in AC:R where while the game does the glitchy loading screen thing you can hear voices and it's Maria and Altair arguing. Maria says he's too absorbed in the Apple and Altair just sadly replies that he must because no one else can handle the Apple.
