LOOOOOL

E-sports is fucked...

esports are gay as fuck

nobody over the age of 16 gives a shit about e-sports

>20 million dollar buy in
Are they secretly trying to kill OW esports so it can just be casual play shit.

why does everyone in esports look like a donut or a stick

>neofag colors

Oh thanks rocket league

Tell me one good reason why this wouldn't do well in esports?
Why do you make fun of esports.
You're a nerd.
Why reject your reality?

Overwatch e-sports has never been alive.

Blizzard just pumps money into it as a failure, little more than to act as advertising at this point.

>all the tf2 ""pros"" who left tf2 to become an overwatch ""pro""
>overwatch comp is fucking dead too
squealing

Blizz REALLY need to fuckign udnerstand that you can't just jumpstart a esport by ntossing money at it. They failed with SC2 even with the immense goodwill they got with BW, and they are already fucking it up with OW.

Just let it grow from the ground up, ffs.

dead on arrival even some the most die hard blizzdrone admit that they saw Starcraft 2

>fucked balancing with the lead designers catering to casuals and having fuck up after fuck up
>half the charcters are unfun to play (tanks) or straight up garbage (defence)
>fucked Sr system where silver mercys can reach GM with negative win rate
>heavily team reliant on random casual kids who dont give a fuck so unless you play 2 tiers above you cannot hard carry
>tolls and grievers run rampant without consequence
>peak viewers audience on twitch 30k, mostly tends to be lower than 15k

This shit is going to flop and its going to be glorious

halo was getting more viewers lmao, how did they convince anyone with those shit numbers that were lower than SFV

OW is WAY too clustered visually to be a good viewing thing.

Thing like dota can get hectic in big fights but you still see the basic gist and you see the winner.

forgot to add cancer like
>2CP maps
>brain-dead characters like D.VA being the most meta.
>slow updates
>low characters leading to only one comp being viable.

Leave Overwatch to me

>class-based quake
no thanks

>goodwill they got with BW

Blizzard killed all BW tournaments in South Korea by forbidding any company from profiting from the broadcasting or holding of an event without their permission. This was a new rule at the time and only came into effect around 6 months before SC2's release. And they only approved SC2 events, so no one was going to run events at a lose so BW events just stopped happening. Even though BW was always played much more in PC cafes during the entirety of SC2.

Anyone who was actively involved in the BW scene as a viewer or participant knows the blizzard only fucks things up when they get involved and SC2 got a lot of hate even before release due to this. They killed their own game's monopoly on eSports just to sell more copies of SC2, and since SC2 sucksd everyone just swtiched to MOBAs.

It appears that all of the teams are using the exact same characters, and the exact same strategies. This is an exciting competition!

condolences to any shortsighted "pros" who didn't get into streaming

WHat i meant is that after a resounding success such as BW, you expect a LARGE amount of hype and attention for your new game. And then they fucked it hard. Fuckign BW is one of the many blunders. No custom from the start was another

They only get around 25k views for current tournaments, what makes them think they can be this huge e-sport? The game just isn't a good spectator experience.

It worked for TF2

>class based

So you haven't played it then.

20 million dollar buy in sounds pretty enticing desu

because they're fucking losers who's only "redeeming qualitly" is being good at vidya

wow, what an amazing skill, that is completly useless once you're forced to retire due to age

But there's totally a ton of variety user.

people still play blizzard games?

You cannot fucking astroturf a competitive scene if you don't put a decent framework in.

I don't know why Blizzard hasn't learned this lesson since so much of contemporary esports was built off of their games.

Valve had it on easy mode since their two biggest guns are the successors of MOBA #1 and the most popular FPS of all time but they could've still fucked it up.

Even if MOBAs basically made RTS go the way of Halo and disco, there's no reason Starcraft 2 should be as small as it is, and on the other hand, why Hearthstone is somehow as large as it is.

I'd call it stupidity, but half of it is just fucking arrogance.

>overwatch esports

>since so much of contemporary esports was built off of their games.
Their games, but not their framework. Really Blizzard wasn't prepared for SC1 to be big, and they didn't learn from that to figure out how to make SC2 a real success.

tf2 comp was biggest joke ever
6v6 is boring to watch and forcing teams to play the same setups makes it even worse

Makes you wonder what else they've been pumping money in.
>tfw 90% of OW porn was blizzard funded

No one forces you, you can run spy and pyro to mid all you like and get face fucked.

>Blizzard convinced people to pay $20 million a slot for games that get, at best, 20k viewers.

OWL will flop, but at least Blizz will make bank off it.

Yes, a penny for Activision is a penny well spent!

I watched an entire e-sports game of CSGO with my dad one night because we were bored as shit but not tired. It was kinda fun explaining what all the guys were doing as he got more interested.

>skill-less shooter
>esports

Just play CSGO like everybody else already.

>You have to pay as much as the biggest prizepool in eSports to enter

To what end?
Do they want it to die and games like Dota to thrive?

Hmm, makes you think

name one game that was made for esports thats more painful to spectate than overwarch.

Pretty sure HotS tournaments get more viewers at this point.

Evolve
In all seriousness I don't even know, never watched that shit.

They thought they were popular enough to pull it off. I mean, if people were willing to pay $60 for that game, $20 million to play competitively seems pretty reasonable.

>they didn't learn from that to figure out how to make SC2 a real success

Oh they knew, they just thought they had enough clout to let their greed get the better of them.

i am not talking about entertainment value. in evolve you could at least see what team/side you're watching right now.

Dawn of war III

youtube.com/watch?v=m0RaTgyzTbw

It's pretty obvious which team is which in OW. You just have to look at their team comps: See? One team has Dva, the other doesn't.

>win 20 millions playing videogames
>retire at 30
somehow you'll regret this

Say what you want, but I always find things that require a high degree of skill to be interesting to watch. Whether it be painting, singing, chess or gaming. As long as I have a basic understanding of the medium, I can respect what I see and enjoy just how impressive what I'm seeing is.

>not buying lotto tickets to make more money with no skill and retiring earlier
It's the same shit, most of them don't end up rich successes. It's like becoming an indie dev because you saw how much Notch has.

This. Also I gamble online on pro League of Legends matches. I would bet on normal sports, but I don't understand them or enjoy them as much as following pro league

not even Lol is this stale

But OW only has 10 characters so half the cast being viable is okay.

I never have fun watching something Overwatch related unless it's a short or less than 12 seconds. The game just isn't interesting to watch when everyone is clustered together for 10 minute hectic chunks. It's also built to be a slide half of the time; sports are interesting because they dynamically go back and forth, Overwatch has to do that in rounds, and thus the problem with the repitive styles and comps come into the problem. They're going to drown the cow.

QC Sacrifice

>forcing teams to play the same setups

you know almost nothing about comp tf2, nice try you dumb nigger

It's amazing how they managed to make a game as fun to watch as it is to play.

like 2 people in the history of e-sports have done this, and they were both Koreans, and they didn't make the money from actually winning tourneys, it was from advertisement contracts because they're like celebrities in S.Korea

The only person in the US or EU that has even come close was fatal1ty, and even he just got his money from advert deals for sound cards and nuts.

yeah gonna be absolutely huge just like heores of the storm

ohhhhhhhhhhhhh...................... wait.... but........

Are you saying "just play esports" isn't a good get rich quick scheme?

Blizzard made the mistake of making a game that appeals 99% to their own fans, who would move on to their next thing that they'll dump to go back to Dota.

Pretty sure some of the EG dota guys have nearly 2 million dollars just from the international alone

>Competitive Overwatch.
>One team follows the meta.
>The other team does something that isn't playing by the books 100%.
>OH MY GOD HYPE HYPE HYPE FUCKING PLAY OF THE GAME PLAY OF THE GAAAAMMMMEEEE

Who's actually paying those prices?

Noone, apparently.

Im similar to this, but instead I like to listen to people who talk about their field of expertise. As long as they know their shit or appear to, I find it interesting to listen to.

who gives a fuck about overwatch
>BW 1.18
>"don't worry guys we won't change anything at all!!"
>"except the UI and hotkey rebinding lol you can have those :^)"

FUCK blizzard, and FUCK esports

How competitive is the Overwatch SFM porn fapping league?

So...dead game, right?

It's still "popular" with people in the way that Minions are still popular.

>no hotkey rebinds for e-sports shitters
>the core of the community
They are a straight-up bottom tier company now.

Man, I know a 50 something year old Japanese dude who cares only about food and fighting game tournaments.

I PLAY competitive Overwatch for my University, and in demo review after games/scrims it is confusing to know who is who. Especially during a teamfight.

I believe the main problem is the red/blue coloring. When you play, your team is always blue and the enemy team is always red. So it can be hard to counteract the natural instinct.

Fun to play at a high level (we're grandmaster/top 500) but terrible to watch. Nobody on either of our teams finds competitive Overwatch fun to watch.

At this point they might be too big to fail, being part of activision and all.

>I believe the main problem is the red/blue coloring. When you play, your team is always blue and the enemy team is always red. So it can be hard to counteract the natural instinct.
This is definitely a problem. TF2 didn't have this issue, but I get that not having it set for "shoot the red guys" is hard for some people.

>they gutted and watered down a good series for this

Street fighter gets more views and that game only has like 3000 people online

That's understandable, though. SF is popular and easy/interesting to watch. It's like a boxing match so anyone can understand it, you don't need to know what objectives are or all the abilities, you can just watch them clobber each other.

Playing it, on the other hand, is a totally anti-casual experience, and if you're not good you "git gud" by having your ass kicked until you figure it out enough to hold your own. OW is super casual to get into, but requires game knowledge to watch.

It's shit to watch and the community cares way more about playing dress-up.

Tf2 had team colouring built into the playermodels and architecture from the beginning. Compare that to OW where half your team is one colour and the other is the polar opposite in some cases. By using a lot of strong whites and neutral colours instead of making teamcolouring the focus, visual clutter inevitable.

I don't know man, I just really wanted this game to be something. Like, even from its announcement I was excited for this game. Titanfall 2, splatoon, the souls series, overwatch, almost every game I've ever invested in dies immediately when I touch it. It genuinely makes me sad.

It's sad that OW just needed a tiny excuse plot to have some color-coded design, and they couldn't do that because deciding who the lesbian is was a higher priority.

Look, I get overwatch has a lot of problems but that certainly isn't one of them. If you actually can't tell who is who then the problem is you, not the game.

there were literal limits on classes and gear you could use

nobody wanted to watch or play a mode that reomved all the fun from TF2

>Remove D.va's min range on her defense matrix

>shrink Winstons headbox to where its impossible to crit him when hes jumping

hahha yeah, great work you fucking retards

No, it's a problem with the game. It does have a lot of problems, and this is one if they want it to be an esport. How do you expect people to watch it when the team colors are meaningless and confusing if you actually play? Casuals are just going to be confused when it jumps around. If you just load up a stream, you don't know who's attacking/defending, unless they finally fixed that.

Wow...you really don't play this game do you?
Are you too stupid to see the red highlight around people? Are you colorblind?
Again, this is you stretching for an excuse.

Fighting games are the least specatator friendly shit there is man

You wont understand any of the decision making if you dont play intensivly yourself

And if you dont understand how and why things happen shit is boring AF

Err, do you think we're talking about playing the game? We're talking about watching people play it. In game it doesn't matter, if you're watching someone play you don't automatically know what's going on.

How long before they give Sombra Reaper Widow and Doomfist their own Overwatch:Uprising style event?

Soon seeing how nearly every bit of development is spent on temporary lootbox events

Oooh.
I'll shut my mouth. Sorry.

Huh, better tell everyone I know who's ever watched one without being a pro to stop enjoying it. Better kick those damn kids out of the arcade for watching over shoulders too.

You don't need to know that to enjoy it. A lot of people just enjoy watching it with a limited knowledge. Knowing the button presses for each combo doesn't make them more fun to watch. Back when it was new a lot of people I know watched SaltyBet and there is almost nothing you could be expected to know going into it.

These are all things you people asked for. You literally all demanded Winston and Dva buffs. You got exactly what you wanted.

Maybe the devs and the most vocal players are both idiots?

I'm pretty sure a good number of Dota 2 players could retire off their earnings, it's just that all they'd do if they retired was play Dota all day anyways so they don't bother.

OW maps suck dick, it's like they took Dustbowl from TF2 and based every map off of that
