ITT: Stupidly Overrated Games

...

So New Vegas thread?

All Mario games desu

Anything done by Naughty Dog since Uncharted

...

WHAT? HOW DARE YOU

What about intelligently overrated games?

Super Mario 64
Most of all the Metroid games
ALTTP and OoT
Star Fox 64
Dark Souls as a series
MGS as a series

>Super Mario 64
Wrong
>Most of all the Metroid games
Sure however Super Metroid, Prime and Prime 2 and Zero Mission are fantastic games
>ALTTP and OoT
Only because they're seen as near flawless, same with BOTW but they're all still excellent games despite the issues.
>Star Fox 64
Agree.
>Dark Souls as a series
Agree outside of Demons Souls.
>MGS as a series
Agree outside of MG2 and MGS3

>game is 90% combat
>combat is shit
bravo

How the fuck is SM64 NOT overrated

I think it's pretty fairly rated

>sm64
>just says "wrong"

Well shit you got everyone there buddy

Super Mario 64 was the first 3D platformer to get it "right" per say. There's a lot more freedom in Mario 64 compared to Jumping Flash and doesn't control like fucking shit like Bubsy 3D. It laid down a foundation for 3D platformers to follow.

>Super Mario 64
>overrated

Obvious bait is obvious

SM64 is still better than most games today.

...

Melee
Half Life 2

That doesn't mean it's not overrated. It's a good game, sure, but it's completely overrated.

>That doesn't mean it's not overrated. It's a good game, sure, but it's completely overrated.

Tell me how it's overrated then. I think the high ratings are justified because again, of how it laid out a foundation for many other games that followed it.

t. TJ '''''''''''Henry''''''''' Yoshi

In other words, the begining of the end of the serie

the game was not designed to be played by low attention span depressed fuckups like Sup Forums on a poorly coded N64 emulator using a keyboard and already spoiled by watching speedruns of the game. Your opinion of its quality is forever muddled because you never even came close to plaint it as intended.

Course we're anonymous so you can say you beat it back in the 90s and it sucked then

Overrated is an empty talking point.
>w-well too many people like it and that's bad

>Dark Souls as a series
Fucking thank you. Everyone talks about this series like it's the fucking be all end all because unless you know all the cheap fucking gimmicks that will randomly kill you in the name of MUH CHALLENGE the game is just not fun to play. The game isn't legitimately challenging, it's just trial and error/grinding that allows normies to feel like they got gud when in reality they just learned the right frames to spam roll or parry on.

Want a challenging 3rd person adventure? Play Kingdom Hearts 2 on level 1 Critical Mode. Dark Souls wishes it was that.

Crash was a solid 3D platformer and did it "right"
It didn't handle 3D like Mario anyways. Hell, Mario 64 is honestly terrible compared to the likes of Galaxy 1 and 2 because if that open-ended platforming approach

No not really

When it comes to being overrated here especially on Sup Forums no one can actually make legitimate criticisms without being shitposted at constantly. It's not a case of "oh too many people like it" but more a case of "oh this game has a lot of flaws but I can't discuss them"

>Dark Souls
>Persona 5
>Undertale
>LttP
>OoT
>Mario 64
>Super Metroid
>Demon Souls
>System Shock
>Vampire The mascaraed bloodlines
>Fallout New Vegas
>Fallout 2
>Bloodborne

>Super Mario 64
Agreed.
>Most of all the Metroid Games
Nice wording, agreed.
>ALTTP and OoT
Definitely.
>Star Fox 64
Agreed.
>Dark Souls as a series
Definitely.
>MGS as a series
Agreed.

The Last of Us. Its an allright TPS, but its not the second coming of christ or the "citizen kane of video games" that people say it is

LOL MORE LIKE SUBPAR MARIO BROS

>mascaraed

Are you retarded?

yes

I couldnt even finish it because of how boring and buggy the combat was. Literal Sup Forums fedoracore game.

...

...

>Crash was a solid 3D platformer and did it "right"
Not really, crash style linear 3D platforming saw nearly no success anywhere but crash, because it's not the "right" way to do 3D platformers. Mario 64 style? everywhere, everyone wanted to copy it

...

ITT bad taste

mario 64 is still a great game to this day.

It's a bad Mario game with a bizarre aesthetic that has few of the conventions that made Mario, Mario. The platforming is basic and sparse.

ITT: Nintendo shills with nostalgia goggles

half are probably shitposts.

ITT bad taste

>itt we post games that are generally good or popular and pretend that overrated means bad

Every game ever released on NES or SNES

Care to elaborate?

But all 3D Marios between Sunshine and Oddisey copied it?

Also today's platformer market has 0 good 3D platformers, the genre is dead except for Mario, while there are plenty new 2D and 2.5D platformers?

BUT FIRST

this game is older than you, right?

Mario 64 is not so much the "right" way to do 3D platformers as it is just an early example of a decent open world 3D game.

If anything, it was a cancer to 3D platformers at the time. Mario 64 itself had some decent pacing and fun ideas, but its copies are virtually all complete snorefests with stretched out levels and collecting, as well as they all have this unappealing overly childish tone to it, which Crash did in a much more balanced way.

You know, even if I like Dark Souls, it's hard to not say how absolutely fucking overrated it is, especially when every single fucking game that is even slightly difficult somehow gets related to it.
>Crash Bandicoot is like Dark Souls because it's hard!
>Mario Odysseys checkpoint system is like bonfires in Dark Souls!
I understand that it came at a time when AAA games flooded the market and finding an actual challenge was like finding a needle in a hay stack, but there comes a point in journalism when something you say is considered a joke just by relating it to something. Hell, challenging games STILL existed, like Monster Hunter for example, which predates Dark Souls by several years. I'm legitimately dreading the release of Monster Hunter World for when all the journalists go full retard and make comparisons to Dark Souls.

Best X game with playable Zero by far

Final Fantasies 4, 6, 7, and 9. Each of them have people act like it's the second coming of jesus when they're just alright to pretty good, treating an 8 as a 10 is still overrating it.

I dare say that Undertale is far more overrated than Earthbound. Literal Reddit Rick & Morty meets Steven Universe tier.

Dark Souls
Undertale
Grand Theft Auto
Red Dead Redemption
L.A Noire
Last of Us
Halo
Gears of War
OverWatch
TF2

>LA Noire

>He plays kingdom hearts

...

>Hmmm I think the suspect might not be telling the whole truth here
>Doubt suspect
>"TELL ME THE FUCKING TRUTH KAREN YOU FUCKING DEGENERATE WHORE"

The writing is mostly solid but it's aged like milk

>Dark Souls
Agree
>Undertale
People has been forgetting about the existence of this game and the fanbase has been dying, though now that it's coming to PS4 it may revive again but worse.
>GTA
Outside of the first 2 games, yes.
>Red Dead Redemption
Eh.
>L.A Noire
Not at all
>Last of Us
YES.
>Halo
No people other than xbones like it, still true.
>GoW
True.
>OverWatch
Thanks for adding this shit. Seriously.
>TF2
Only when it first came out and became FTP.

XD

entire MGS series
entire Zelda series

Go away TJ """"""""""""""Henry"""""""""""""" Yoshi

...

MGS3 is the most overrated one, dude. MGS2 is the underrated one, because so many people shit their pants over M-MUH SNAKE ISN'T IN IT.

Aged like fucking milk, wasn't even that good at release and inspired the modern shitty FPS and multiplayer craze

>>Vampire The mascaraed bloodlines
>>Fallout 2

These two hit hard. I hated Vampire for how it played like absolute wet shit but people told me I just didn't give it enough of a go and that I didn't try it enough. And Fallout 2's combat sucks, I don't care what anyone says.

This

So what games do you fuckers consider, that is both critically acclaimed and popular, not being overrated.

Honestly? Yeah. It's got great writing and I appreciate the open-ended nature, but it's overrated as fuck by Sup Forums to the point that there's anger when someone doesn't know it, like it's THE quintessential experience for video games in every regard.

Divine Divinity

Just because normies and game journalists go full retard, doesn't mean you should, too.
The Souls games are good, challenging. I agree that it's stupid to act like they're the hardest games around and to call anything 'the dark souls of ----' but they deserve the praise they get.
All these years later, and I still can't get over what a neat idea the invasions in DeS are.

KH2 doesn't have very good or satisfying combat. Who cares how hard a game is if it's not good?

The reason SM64 still gets played and praised so much today is, more than anything, due to the freedom of movement.
It also gets a lot of points with a lot of people for nostalgia, and the levels are generally interesting and memorable, but movement is the reason it's still so hyped up. Movement is the reason people still clamber for it to be on AGDQ. It's just so fucking satisfying to move in Mario64. Even if you aren't really doing anything, it succeeds as a game in the most fundamental way. It's fun to play, and that's why it deserves its praise.

If you can point me toward some other 3D platformers which outshine SM64 in this respect, I will thank you profusely.

super mario sunshine definitely outSHINES it lol

Movement is better in Galaxy

we're waiting OP

Banjo-Kazooie, because it doesn't change the fact that the franchise is dead.

>>KH2 doesn't have very good or satisfying combat.
Good to know you never played it.

it's best to not ask Sup Forums these questions because majority of posts you'll get are not genuine responses but are just meant to piss people off
