being better than other people is the greatest feeling in the world

what's the point?

Women will never understand.

so i can be good at sport while not being good at real sports

Because no AI can provide a challenge on par with playing against another human.

Sometimes it's the only way to reliably play a game with other people as skilled and as srs as you are. It sucks when you're really good at chess and enjoy playing chess with others, but every other guy down at the chess boards at the park keep trying to play checkers with you instead.

Game is so good at facing others in it that it even got an competitive scenario... Like football

fpbp

To have fun.

>singleplayer games

what's the point?

>People who comp stomp in games outside of the campaign
I will never understand them. Fighting the computer is just not the same as another player.

I think what he meant is that new games start coming out for the sole purpose of getting those compbux. Like why not make a fun game first, and then comp will follow. Like I'm sure the first quake didn't think of comp or counter strike. Same with TF2 or any other game before this esport meme blew up

are gamers really better than anyone?

I love competitive games, but you wouldn't catch me playing LoL or OW. People who do it purely to get money are different from people who are competitive for fun. It seems like video games are the only medium where there are competitive players that absolutely fucking hate the game they play. I've never met a basketball player or baseball player who hates the sport.

SACRIFICES MUST BE MADE

fun, they are fun.

>afraid of competition

When a male makes eye contact with, do you stare at the ground like a child or straight ahead like a female rape victim?

You lack testosterone and have adopted a cowardly personality as a result. With a videogame there are no genuine risks and yet your fear response fires off nonstop. You are truly a male of the modern times.

Why is Moses so handsome?

Competitive instincts. But instead of murderfucking each other irl you just go for either murderfuckin' someone's computer avatar in some game or, in case of olympic games and sports, for murderfuckin' someone's ideas about this person being best in his game.

I'm too short to succeed at sports and it's a good way to use my brain and reactions, it's a tense feeling in a good way.

this, it's how I feel being white

Competitive games are popular because of mens need to compete with other men.

It's like 2 stags butting heads, 2 gorillas fighting etc.

youtube.com/watch?v=GbVOXoObv8Q

We live in such a watered down society that this is pretty much the only way men have left to vent this primal urge.

This is why men get so aggressive playing these games, this is why they talk like shit to each other so badly.

>numales will never understand the joy of competition

This is why shit like Persona exists. So you can feel special for doing absolutely nothing.

Because it feels awesome. Playing a fighting game and hearing the crowd cheer you on makes you feel like a god.

>tfw you're too old for competitive games

I just don't want to deal with the toxic communities that act like children. I don't want to try and tolerate the horrible match making that companies have yet to perfect. I don't want to dedicate the time and energy it takes to learn a competitive game. I don't want the stress of something so trivial in my life. I just want to have fun.

This is the reason COOP games are the only online games I play. The vast majority of people grow out of competitive games eventually.

To get golden guns, of course.

>video games
what's the point?

youtube.com/watch?v=5m52pru61EI

like this is what I'm talking about. The devs saw competitive games make money, so they made a game for that purpose and that purpose alone. This is how they're marketing it. Not that it could be fun to play a hunger game style game. I don't think the problem is that they are competitive, just that they're made to capitalize on a fad

>tfw you're too old for competitive games
Japan still has 50 year old business men playing SF2. You just play gay shit like OW with retard communities or were never competitive in the first place and hid behind team-based competition.

it's fun

It amazes me more people don't get this and why trying to sanitize the experience is counter productive.

This is also why the psychologists at the game development houses push the sex appeal of the characters in these kinds of games.

To be honest i'm happy that this stuff exists.
It means that more males are more interested in chasing numbers instead of chasing women.
It means that i have more chances to get laid with a super hot girl by simply not playing, working out and just being a normal person.
Also i'd rather spend my time in games like COD by unlocking those top tier camos (dark matter, exclusion zone, diamond, whatever) rather than playing for maximum k/d

""Playing on computer consoles activates parts of the male brain which are linked to rewarding feelings and addiction, scans have shown. The more opponents they vanquish and points they score, the more stimulated this region becomes.

In contrast, these parts of women's brains are much less likely to be triggered by sessions on the Sony PlayStation, Nintendo Wii or Xbox.

Professor Allan Reiss of the Centre for Interdisciplinary Brain Sciences Research at Stanford University, California, who led the research, said that women understood computer games just as well as men but did not have the same neurological drive to win.

"These gender differences may help explain why males are more attracted to, and more likely to become 'hooked' on video games than females," he said.

"I think it's fair to say that males tend to be more intrinsically territorial. It doesn't take a genius to figure out who historically are the conquerors and tyrants of our species – they're the males.

"Most of the computer games that are really popular with males are territory and aggression-type games."""

>oh em gee toxic community

Why do people even say this? Every single game has a mute button.

All these things are known, research was done on this many years ago.

It's not about having fun, it's about stopping others from having fun.

to become the strongest tiger

Competitive games are good as long as I'm in control.
I fucking hate when you're reliant on teams - you always seem to get a bunch of retarded monkeys who got their first pc a few days prior.

yes. other gamers.

dumbass.

and then you wonder why people hate you in real life

...

So basically we don't play these repetitive games because we like them, we play them because they trigger the animal parts of our brain that drive us to compete. As we get older this urge lessens.

So Overwatch is filled mostly with males between the age of 15 and 40, which is a surprise to nobody.

At this point, none of this matter anymore, I purely play games to make others as mad as possible anymore for my enjoyment. Moba games are really good at this because you can also piss off your own team.

what if you know you have an audience that likes playing competitive games, so you're catering to your core audience in this way? See: fighting games of the 90's, where they just kept getting more and more esoteric and technical because that's what their audience wanted.

The only reason LoL and OW piss you off is because you aren't part of that audience, and can't comprehend not being catered to.

nigga, triggering animal parts in your brain is your entire life

This is only one study? Seems flawed seeing how many old people fight over sports teams and politics. There is a reason most published research findings end up being false. You should always take things with a grain of salt unless there is indisputable proof and/or has been reviewed countless times with the same results.

Old people also have less sex and jerk off less, whoa!

...

dick measuring contest

So WWI

There are too many red pills in this thread, people don't like accepting they are animals and easily manipulated.

>anything you like
what's the point?

Marketing and exposure.

In addition people are more likely to buy games when they come with the stigma of dedication/competition than basement dwelling lethargy

What's the point if I have nothing to gain from it?
If I'm fighting someone to take their territory or land to expand, or to level up and get stronger, fuck yeah, that's fun.
If it's just for a big "YOU WIN" message at the end and a kickback to the lobby/menu then it's not as fun.

Because competition is fun, it's the same as sports. Even going for the high score and type ASS in the arcade is a competition and it's fun.

>to level up

exp is the worst thing to happen to games. Instead of honing your problem solving skills and reactions you just get by by having you character becoming OP and you become dull as fuck.

What's the point is a defeatist question that isn't worth answering. There is no answer that can be provided which can't be met with "What's the point?"

>have a friend that refuses to play competitive games because he's too afraid of losing
>will only consider playing multiplayer games if there's PvE or Bots
>won't even play party games with our mutuals because he gets too buttblasted at the slightest inconvenience
>this nigger won't even play Worms
fuck you Neil you chickenshit

>I'm better than my friends at Dota, but I get so much anxiety about potentially under-performing when playing with them that I can't even bring myself to play the game most of the time

Not every game is reaction based, and allowing access to all the highest tier shit right from the start would ruin the challenge/fun. Exp acts as a gateway to the higher shit, but good games with it also require you to plan and think ahead of what you'll specialize in as you reach higher levels. It's no fun when it hits autistic levels of "how the fuck would I have known this without a guide" character planning but someone who stuck to a path but is lower level should be able to beat a fuckhead who put points everywhere but is higher level.
point is fuck you

If it's one thing I love doing on competitive games, it's beating arrogant nerds who taunt. I love getting an embarrassing win on then and teabagging or taunting them, nothing pisses me off more than people who have pride. that's what drives me to win. u hate humans so much I want to break their spirit, possibly make them quit the Gane forever. it all started when I used to be made fun of when I started playing COD in middle school and sucked. I trained my ass off and made sure I kicked my friends asses in game.

no one taunts or makes fun of me in a competition and gets away with it. I will rape you in smash, street fighter, overwatch, you name it. I'll stop at nothing to kill the competition.

I play fighting games because they have infinite content since you can just fight better and better people and eventually acrew a reputation among the fgc if you get good enough.
Also i just fucking love how fun playing terumi is.
Stomps for days senpai

Ft5 me in blazblue you cheeky scrub.
>smash
>sf
>overwatch
Play a real mans game child.

I have the opposite issue
>All my friends are significantly worse than I am at Dota, but I'm not even that good objectively so it's hard to focus on my own mistakes when my mates are playing so terribly that it frustrates me too much to have any fun

>sf4 and 3 ate not mens games

w e w

All my friends dont even touch fighting games but i just play with people from discord and seperate the hobby from friends.

Ill fight you both in 3 on fightcade senpai, not that im good at it i play it for shits.

>but you wouldn't catch me playing LoL or OW
nobody cares which games you play

Why does f a m get autocorrect to senpai

get out you fucking newfag

quit being triggered you dumb faggot and practice your reading comprehension

Money is a better system than xp. Purchases should be categorized, with a default in each category to level the playing field. Players who are smart but plan their purchases should be able to compete with those who grind/play more/p2w but don't think.

Kek ok senpai

>don't care about the feeling of being better than someone at a game
>best feeling is the one that makes you clench your teeth like a madman because shit is so close beteween you and your opponent one fuck up could be it
It doesn't matter how good you are, the best fight is the one where you fight someone at your skill level

The only exp or resources that are acceptable as temporary round based resources. Something like meter gain, money in CS:GO, or growing your army in a RTS. It becomes more of a skill than something to baby people

people like to compete I guess. see who has a bigger dick.

Fighting people you can beat every time in fighting games is always the most boring thing ever

this

close matches are the best and stalemates become some mental game of defeating your own barriers to defeat your opponent

Which kinda sucks cause fighting people much better than you is a good way to get better.

>Being better than other people
>in a videogame

this
