I enjoyed Gothic 4 the best, 1 and 2 were just clunky and outdated, 3 was meh. Gothic 4 was really fun.

This, my favourite part of Gothic 4 is when you met yourself( Rhobar III (3 XD)] . It made my mind go "PUFF" how cool it was. Also Hagen and Lee are badasses! ALso city of Stewark is cool too you meet your friends there!

Gothic 1 and 2 are really, really boring. Good level design and I suppose good concepts on the stats, but the world itself is overwhelmingly bland and the combat is really bad.

It's rather focused i say, it's not a sandbox game, all plants are hand placed, the pickable ones for alchemy are only available in limited quantity etc to prevent you from making infinite STR potions and such.

L'Hiver changes the game a fuckload. It's much harder than the vanilla game. Enemies are tougher, it's harder to make money, at least one fight (Raven) has been completely reworked. On the whole I prefer it to vanilla G2, but it does a lot more than improve the graphics and make """small""" changes to the map.

Started with Gothic 2 since the gameplay is supposed to be more polished and I already more or less know how the setting in 1 worked, but in the very fist minutes the MC already met two guys from Gothic 1, and a third new character that was referring to some consequences of what the MC did in 1. It already relies on the prequel too much for my taste, so now I'm thinking about postponing 2 and starting with 1.
Can you fans help me in making it run properly? Does someone have a pic like this for Gothic 1?

Just look at the Steam community guides. They have over a dozen articles telling you what you need to do.

Gothic's combat is just as much of a clickfest, don't let the third-person-perspective fool you into thinking anything else. at least the animations are nice.

I have not officially played Morrowind. I logged in, robbed a shopkeepr and tried to get to my next quest location. all the load times and wondering made me drop it. From the vids I saw its not as interactive as I had hoped and has a lot of empty space and very few npcs

Well the world is very immersive and detailed actually. The combat is just very awful though. If the game didn't have so much else going for it the combat would easily make the game horrible. Being a mage makes the combat somewhat better but not dramatically so.

I'd say you should give it a try again. Just go torrent it and make sure to get the expansions.

Am I the only one that genuinely liked Gothic 3 and consider it one of the best in the series? I don't understand all of the hate for it--but then again I played it with the community overhaul patch and never tried playing it without it. Also, I didn't bother with the game until years later so I didn't experience all of the bugs during launch.

You actually had to have skill and learn monster attack patterns in Gothic or you will die to even a wolf or goblin.

Their fast attacks are really fast, and then chain them.
But their are too weakly armored to be any treat in Gothic 2.

Gothic 3 was pretty good. Liked 4 a bit better. The truth is people hate them because they're different from the previous games, and nostolgiafags hate that. I liked how the newer games trimmed the many unnecessary skills from the series.

I've never played 4 but what I liked most about the third Gothic is that the world is absolutely fucking huge compared to the previous two and I also enjoyed the "warring factions" and reputation system it had. You could also do anything at any time and the monsters weren't scaled. Is Gothic 4 comparable from an open-ended standpoint? I heard that while the game is large, you are sort of "boxed" into certain zones until you progress with the main quest.

The truth is that """""gothic""""" 4 was made by some literally who developer who have no history nor knowledge about any previous games. and people hate on gothic 3 because it was unplayable on release, due to some memory leak issues. That shit was so infamous that the community, who had to fix the god damn game, added a fucking questline referencing that bug.

I am currently playing through Gothic 2 NotR and I have a question.
How THE FUCK am I supposed to git gud in this games combat? I don't fucking get the damage formular. Either I take/deal 5% dmg at the time or its a oneshot. I went straight to the city and did as many quests as possible to train 1H combat/str. I am on 30 str/ 30%1h and can barely beat the Lurkers on the way to onar. What did I do wrong?

Nothing, the game has had a difficulty increase throughout several patches and the expansion.
If you're doing one-handed melee, get weapons with long reach. Do one-two strikes, then block.
After some hours, your intuition will tell you when an enemy will strike.
Also this "%" thing is crit chance which is insane in this game, like 500% or something. Most NPCs like guards or minibosses have 90%, so....

I can't wait for these spam threads to result in everybody saying Gothic 2 is overrated and becomes universally hated lol.
