They've surpassed Toy Story 1, I'm pretty sure.
Yeah pretty much, Toy Story 1 was a great fucking film, but we can all agree the animation did not age well at all, especially those fucking humans.
Looks like The Old Republic MMO.
we still havent reached toy story 1
There are plenty of better looking games user pls.
>Tfw entering a new age of Sup Forums-Sup Forums-Sup Forums-Sup Forums-/trash/ shitposting.
we did it tvcovatrash brows
we did it
Granted there have been major computational and algorithmic advancements since then, pre-rendered CGI and real-time graphics are still very far apart.
The one major problem game graphics have nowadays is global illumination, where objects are not only lit directly by light sources, but by ambient light reflecting off other objects. Global illumination in CGI movies is achieved through ray tracing, where rays of light are traced from the viewpoint ("camera") back to the various light sources in the scene, with all the reflections in between. This makes the overall scene look very natural since it's essentially calculating the paths of photons and you also get perfectly accurate shadows along with it.
But ray tracing is absolutely not achievable in real time by any consumer-grade hardware, you have to ray-trace multiple times per-pixel otherwise it will look all grainy and shit. This shit takes days just to render seconds of footage, and that's on dedicated render farms.
There are ways to achieve acceptable quality GI in real time but there are still quite a few trade-offs to every approach.
One thing's for sure, we've far surpassed the texture work.
I hate how normies meme these movies, it's weird too since they're usually into things with a slightly edgy tint to them.
the lgihting , shading, and poly count are still worse in games. the textures are better in games, thats about it
>that sand
I don't like the Pixar/Disney 3D art style
Overwatch rips it off in an even shittier way
but /trash/ has always been here
Say what you will about the gameplay choices and the polycount (The latter being because "Who needs more than 512mb of ram?"), but this game for that console generation is still the best looking game made for that generation, still holds up to a extent today, and manages to surpass the original Toy Story in graphical fidelity in "real time". It's a shame it runs like ass on actual hardware.
IKR, video games will never look as good as retro CG
>anages to surpass the original Toy Story in graphical fidelity in "real time"
not with that cardboard tree
These are not pictures from the movie as it was in 95. They are from the re release. The movie was ported to a newer engine and rendered in higher resolution. Modern games have obviously surpassed the original
>and the polycount (The latter being because "Who needs more than 512mb of ram?")
Most of what makes it look good is how they managed to fake GI by having a bunch of pre calculated probes in the scene lighting it up, raw poly count, again, being restricted to dumb hardware design of the time.
>comparing toy story CG to that shitty donkey kong show CG
I actually don't remember it looking this good.
>manages to surpass the original Toy Story in graphical fidelity
why are there always so many retards in these threads?
...
Is it me or do models of KH original characters like sora/xehanort etc all look really shit with this new engine?
Depends on the lighting and the characters. Xehanort and his buds still need work
Impressive. Very nice. Let's see Toy Story's "human" models.
>there will never be DKC game based on the show
Konga and the Swing spinoffs don't count
Holy shit and this looked realistic as fuck when I was a kid
It was on CRTs back then, user. Details were pretty much blurred out.
You're looking at this on an HD monitor. It's no big surprise.
youtube.com
not a video game but it is a proof of concept
something something c-consoles are holding pc b-back user!
The models, texturing and animation have surpassed TS1, but rendering I'm not sure.
Theres like 3 of these fucking threads what the fuck
There are no computers that are able to render Toy Story in real time.
toy story level announced for kingdom hearts 3 (which the OP picture is from)
