Banned from Diablo II for modifying the EXE to optimize its CPU usage. D2 normally eats up every spare cycle, being such a poorly optimized game. Blizzard's servers evidently monitor how clients connect and issue bans to anyone running a modified client. I had emailed them explaining the issue, but the correspondent was an asshole. Since I still had my original receipt, I bugged them into giving me a refund for the game.

Haven't bought a single Blizzard product since, and have no intention of ever doing so again. I don't really care for online multiplayer at any rate. It just seemed important with D2 for the sake of trading items, since runes have such absurd drop rates.

This SP "trick" only changes the output framerate, but the framebuffer is locked at 25 FPS even in MP because the game is hardcoded like this.
I assume it's because the devs were complete fucking retards and tied all game logic to framerate which is why it hasn't been uncapped in any patch yet.
It's prime reason why I will never be able to go back to D2 again as long as this shit exists.
Seriously go play D1 with Beelzebub mod (which uncaps framerate) and then go into D2 and you will want to vomit from low FPS sickness.

Go try vanilla D1 now, and then try it with Beelzebub, which is essentially the engine recoded from scratch but with all the assets of original D1 unchanged think ala Doom sourceports, and see the staggering difference in framerate with nothing being sped up.

you can download glide wrapper for d2 which allows the game to run at whatever arbitrary fps you want, so the cursor and map scrolling will appear smoother just like in that vid, but animations and effects will still be choppy

user, that's because Glide Wrapper does not change the mother fucking framebuffer. That shit is hardcoded, it would need to be changed by the devs themselves on a source code level.
And that's why Beelzebub could implement it, because it's literally THE ENTIRE FUCKING ENGINE recoded from scratch, only using the assets of the original game but the code being all new (barring reverse engineering).

If Blizzard weren't idiots that tied all their game logic to framerate, they could uncap it. But since they did tie it to framerate, they can't easily uncap it without painstakingly going through the game's code for a lot of stuff such as walking speed, attack speed etc and getting that shit untied from framerate.
