Playstation 1, obvi

Emulated on pc if you like filters

PSP

PS1 Hardtype.

>definitive version meme

There is literally one version of the game that's been ported trought and trought without any real modification, unlike games like persona,Final fantasies and such.

Play it on whatever you can.

This
Most games released for PsX/Saturn/Pc are exactly the same except for some sound and visual effects
Stop being autists

PSP Dracula x Chronicles unlockable.

I'd recommend the PS1 version, emulated or otherwise. The redub on the PSP unlockable is soulless and boring, and you really ought to play this game on a TV to soak in the art.

The Saturn version has an extra playable character.

The Saturn Version had Maria as a playable character

>exactly the same except for the things that are different

Ignore these two memesters.

The Saturn version is inferior. It has more enemies, more areas, more items and more music. But is overall graphically and performance-wise inferior. The additions -- save for the music -- are also of questionable quality.

PSP version has content from the Saturn version, but gets rid of "have at you!" and "DARK METAMORPHATHITH!", I say it's a pretty good trade off

Does it have the alternate costume for Richter? I know it doesn't change much but that'll be pretty cool if so.

user is wrong. PSP version has nothing from Saturn. Not even Maria is the same.

No, which is weird considering the other Saturn stuff is there
They look exactly the same, visually

ha ha, half the fun of SOTN is going from cutscene to cutscene to hear I AM THE DARK PRIEST CALLED SHAFT and NOW LET ME SHOW YOU -MY- UNBRIDLED WRATH!

SOTN, along with Starfox 64, is like the most quotable videogame ever made. Every line is golden. Plus the unlock loses I am the Wind, which is sacrilege.

Wasn't the Saturn's transparency shit though?

Ps1, they ruined the va in the ported versions

Nope.

Saturn's version can't do transparencies. On top of that, the screen is stretched so every 4th pixel is doubled.

Dracula X Chronicles on PSP hands down.

And no, there is no "other Saturn stuff". There's nothing from the Saturn on the PSP version.

>They look exactly the same
Opinion discarded. The Saturn was not capable of transparency, which SotN used extensively. The resolution was also fucked and Alucard looks fat because his sprite is several pixels larger.

PSP emulator
>no load times
>Maria playable

PS1 and 360 versions are both fine obviously, but Saturn version is really bad. It has performance issues, can't render transparency, and every 4th pixel is repeated making for an awful 2D presentation.

Saturn version also has extreme slow downs

I'M INTERESTED IN THIS

The meat of the game runs perfect on the emulator, but when I tried to run the original Rondo of Blood it crashes when you get to Maria. Anyone else experience the same?

>YOUR WORDS ARE AS EMPTY AS YOUR SOUL
Not present, won't play.

psp through the Dracula x game

I emulated RoB just fine.

>there will never be another game with the absolute synchronicity of art and soundtrack to sell the environments and world

I used ppsspp

HEHE, THANK YOU!

hardtype?

I emulated the ORIGINAL original version that had a translation patch. Art isn't butchered unlike the re-releases of it from what I recall.

Aria of sorrow+the ds games are pretty great as well. SotN is good, but in my opinion slightly overrated.

SO THE WAR BETWEEN HUMANS AND...vampires...finally ends here...

>Filters

get out

soundtrack isn't any better than every other igavania.

SotN literally recycled dracula's castle by rotating it upside down. It definitely has its downsides. Not to mention most of the weapon types sucked, which they fixed in dawn of sorrow.

>filter

I DEMAND YOU CEASE YOUR ATTACK!

*teleports behind you and steals your alucard gear*

Nothin personell, kid

Which Playstation core is the best on Retroarch?

I'd say DoS is the best full map style castlevania. obviously the best overall is OOE.

Agreed. I just with DoS didn't have those stupid seals.

Death is such a douche in this game

Wish*

Mednafen

I like the seals. they weren't even hard to pull off. why are castlevania fans such raging casuals?

what did you guys think of the show?

Not the user you responded to, but he's referring to a Romhack.
romhacking.net/hacks/2896/
I have yet to try it my self, but as you can guess it essentially rebalances the game to be more of a challenge.

Not really. He could have killed you after scattering all your gear, easily. But he's like your nanny. He's known you since you were a baby and been friends with your father for hundreds of years.

Alucard is the one being a dick.

>humans burn your mom at the stake
>your dad reeeeees
>better kill daddy

They aren't hard to pull off, they're just unnecessary and a total pain in the ass when using an emulator.

DoS is worse than AoS by a country mile.

season 2 when

The 4 episode limit made the character development/motivations seem really rushed. Wish the church was a little more fleshed out and not so mustache twirly evil. Hopefully season 2 will straighten it out.

>t. Succubus

Death in the shadow world will set your soul wandering for eternity, demon.

>OOE
I love it but the castle is tiny with no secrets. All the other maps are mostly just straight lines with enemies.

Sad because the design was ok for the most part.

This.

>Oh hi Master Alucard, what's good lil nibba
>Can't talk, gotta kill dad
>Whoa there, can you not?
>I MUST
>Fine, I'm going to scatter your gear. Now get.
>FUCKING DEATH IT'S NOT FAIR

You'd be better off just making up restrictions for yourself than playing hardtype, all it does is inflate numbers, especially enemy HP, so there's no real challenge added, just tedium because bosses take forever to kill, for fucks sake, Slogra and Gaibon should not be like a 5 minute fight because they have tripled or quadrupled HP.

Nigger, did you forget Maria? She's on the PSP version

...

She's completely different from her Saturn incarnation.

crap animation for a crap fanbase.

To be fair, Dracula kinda wanted to kill all the humans

Like all romhacks it's just upping all the enemy's HP by 600% and shit like that. It doesn't make the game harder, it makes it more tedious and there is a difference.

Steals the show as per usual.

I'd forgotten how fucking phenomenal this game is.

Handles smoothly, immense amounts of enemy variety, aesthetic is fantastic, and dat fucking OST.

I like super castlevania more numbawangvania

Is this the game you play if you want to get into the series? What about after?

>this japanese developer REDEFINED DRACULA and basically you're fucking stupid
>backstep here to find out more

the saturn version also looks and runs like ass, making it not worth it.

...

just a note here, the Xbox 360 port for whatever reason, does not feature the FMV cutscenes of the castle.

Which makes it weird when after beating richter they are suddenly talking about a second castle and you dont know what the fuck is going on

So I wanna get into this series but I forgot where I put my PSP I dont feel like emulating since I prefer playing on handhelds. Can I jump in with the GBA games? Are the stories connected?

They take place in the same Universe but most of them are hundreds of years apart so you can start from anywhere unless it's the sorrow series, in which case start with Aria

they are connected in the same way that classic megeman games are connected. there's an overarching storyline, but you can mostly jump in anywhere. Most games have some sort of expositional prologue that explains the setting anyway. No game actually references Symphony of the Night afterwards, outside of reusing it's art assets.

>No game actually references Symphony of the Night afterwards

PoR does.

does it?

I feel like I actually had as much fun playing Curse of Darkness as SotN the first time.

Jump in anywhere, avoid the 2 N64 games. Dont sleep on Circle of the Moon, the DDS system was legit fire. Skeleton runs ftw.

is the xbla version and the ps1 version the same?

thanks anons

Pretty sure.

I feel like I should remember since I played PoR recently, which part?

When they discuss why the Belmonts can't use the Vampire Killer.

>for whatever reason
They were already pushing the limits back when it was re-released, being the first game to ever be granted an exception to the 50MB limit of Xbox Live downloadable games. They eliminated the FMVs to make it as small as possible but it wasn't enough.

It's kino

oh right, the Richter thing.

yeah I guess that is a reference. Not a super huge one though.

.

I mean the only games that took place after it were AoS and DoS, Unless OoE did too but that game just said fuck all to the time line.

They had to cut it out due to XBLA size limitations at the time. SotN exceeded it in base form, so cuts were made.

OoE is after Symphony, by maybe like a generation or so

Test

F-
see me after class

The Saturn version had 2 extra areas and Maria as a playable character. But suffered from worse load times, and not as nice visuals.

>that game just said fuck all to the time line.

How do you figure?
