What is your guys opinion on Sonic CD? I just got it on Steam and its the first time playing it.

The fans generally put CD chronologically in between 1 and 2, right?

Just cause Tails wasn't there in the original release and the Death Egg saga seems to be one, continuous story

I had my fun, but the level design is counter-intuitive to going fast so going back to the Past is an utter chore. Also the Special Stage controls are a little wonky

It's genuinely better not to care at this point. Trying to force the Master Emerald in every plot just got more and more obtuse as the series progressed

Tails actually shows up in the bonus images you can unlock in the game so it really could take place anywhere (Though general consensus is before 2 because that's when it was in development)

Shame they never really had another "Saga" after the Death egg, though really saying that's a mute point considering 3 and Cd are the only games with a an actual story. Eh maybe Mania will do something since 9/10 chances it involves either Time Travel or Eggman revisiting his old haunts for no reason.

Okay, what if Sonic Mania turns out to be shit, but Sonic Forces actually turns out to be great?

I don't hate it like everyone else seems to. Mania existing definitely helps get rid of a lot of the sting from that game. It doesn't play like classic Sonic (rolling is a detriment rather than beneficial, homing attacks are used to maintain momentum) and it never should have been called Sonic 4, but the levels were mostly well designed and it played decent overall. It sucks episode 1 rehashed so much from the older games, and episode 2s music is awful. But it was better than most of the handheld games that people seem to give a pass.

Then Sega might still be making consoles.

They don't have to abandon the premise of his character to include him, and they don't have to shoehorn in the Master Emerald either. There has to be something they can do to free Knuckles from Angel Island without getting as retarded as Adventure.

Not possible but even if it did happen we'd still end up with one great Sonic and one bad one, just like now.

The level design is iffy and the boss battles leave a lot to be desired. It's better than Sonic 1.

Level design is still obnoxious and cluttered as fuck, regardless of the floor

Those electric wires are eons worse and the bounce floor sends you straight into them. Getting enough speed to go to the past is a nightmare

The second worst 2D sonic. Its lucky sonic 1 is as shitty as it is. A popping art style and soundtrack can't save it. Stardust speed way and quartz quadrant are pretty fucking good levels though, wont lie

Did you forget the nearly unavoidable freeze exhaust, the randomly electrified foreground cables and the pistons that you would think should kill you but are required for the Hologram Projector?

Fuck no it isn't. It's weaker in nearly every aspect. Significantly worse level designs and bosses, worse music, worse special stages, hell even the title screen was worse. CD looks a little better and that's it.

I only ever saw it in Japanese subbed way before US release and my friend only started me off from somewhere between episode 20-30 because the ones before were shit according to him and it was great. I also played a bootleg Final Bout and before then and marveled at all the new characters I didn't know existed.

Basically I remember everyone thinking it was cool back then and I'm wondering if I'm misremembering or it had to do with everyone watching the dub on top of it not being made by Toriyama.

Not him but I exclusively read the manga, even before the anime was adopted. I thought the story got really stupid around volume 37, which is when the Buu saga started. When I finally watched GT it didn't seem significantly dumber than that.

i only watched the shadow dragon saga when i was a kid, episode 48, i think?, onward, and even then i had like 3 or 4 VHSes with only a couple episodes apiece so there was a gap or two in the saga

i've actually never watched it all the way through, got to the beginning of the baby saga i think last time i tried watching it and stopped because it's FUCKING BORING

the sub's pretty alright and the soundtrack's phenomenal, funimation dubbing it fucking ruined the soundtrack. pretty sure either kissanime or masteranime has the dubbed voices with the JP soundtrack, check it out if you get the chance.

uhhhhh the only real selling points for dbgt for me are that the black star dragon ball saga (first one) feels a lot like original dragon ball as opposed to z, since they're having stupid adventures all over the universe instead of powering up constantly or whatever. also, ssj4 is cool as fuck and the stupid transformations super has don't hold a candle to it design-wise. literal recolors.

tl;dr: it's okay, worth a watch, especially to compare it to the dumpster fire that is super. stands up to db/z? not really, but it holds its own as a successor.
