I was experiencing "depression" in college and this game pretty much got me through it. (it wasn't depression, I was just in an awful relationship instead of enjoying the college lyfe).
I wish they made the city building more expansive and complicated and the dungeons slightly more interesting but honestly it is an amazing game.

I used slingshot girl and wizard girl.

xiao and ruby?

im glad the game got you through the hard parts user, this game was and still is my favorite

Talk about a blast from the past, god damn.

Never actually finished this, but Toan and the cat girl were probably the most played out of the party members I found.

>tfw duels

They were just QTE's, but I still think it's neat such an old game could do that.

Loved that game so much.
That one boss in the sea side town was fucking bullshit though with the stun lock. Also fuck mimics.

Game was hard as balls in general.

The weapons upgrade/durability/collection system was also fanfuckingtastic. BOTW could learn a thing or two. Really fun game.

i totally agree, i was like 6-9 when i played this. i had no idea how much attention they actually put in the game
like the poisons, drinking water,
duels and upgrading weapons and setting elemental actives, looking back now i had no idea what i was doing but god damn it all to hell if i didn't have a blast playing this game

hell usually all i did was fish until the late hours of the night catching nokeys and mardian gayrans

it was so quality,k this is actually my first post here, im glad there's other anons that played this and love it like i do, it makes me happy.

Take my advice, friend, and don't make coming here a habit. It won't make you happier in the long run.

i will take your advice wise shaman

>this is actually my first post here

This is gonna be a shocker, but no one actually cares. There's not some hidden counter where it gives you cred for having some bullshit 10k+ posts.

That's funny, this game actually helped me fail outta college. Wasn't depressed, just absolutely hated school and going right into it as soon as I got outta high school was just horrible. Ended up sitting at home playing this all day until I was kicked out. Now I own a little moving company and I get to sit on my ass playing vidya while other people ruin their backs for me

well I know but I heard there's a way to use a name and make it so people know it's really you so I'll prob do that to make it easier to communicate with ppl on here

Nice bait cunt

i played toan the most because i was too lazy to upgrade any other characters besides osmond

>Genuinely nice older game thread is actually bait

Not sure why I get my hopes up.

Don't worry, you'll fit in no probs. Haters gonna hate!

I'm new here and everyone's being dicks, so blame them. I just wanted something akin to a username but apparently that's fucking wrong because everyone else on here is god and get to dictate whatever they want.

is there a way to make a signature like that stay so I don't gotta retype it with every post?

If this is bait, you've successfully pissed me off, so have a (you).

If it's not, lurk a little bit and understand board culture before you're just another newfag shitting up what used to an enjoyably shitty board and is now just a shitty board.

yeah this guy isnt me,

i just wanted to see if any other anons played this glad there are people out here that do,

anyone play dark cloud 2 as well?
>tfw never beat gaspard without hours of practice

>yfw Dark Cloud's composer still composes for Professor Layton, and we'll never get another Dark Cloud soundtrack again.

I haven't unlocked everyone yet, but so far toan and xiao are the best. Ruby would be tied with xiao if i had a decent weapon for her.

Its kind of a shame that goro sucks, he had a interesting backstory.

Its fun (and honestly kinda creepy since toan dies if you lose most of them) to see all the detail they put on the duels.

And the mechanics overall. I never played the game until recently, and i just love the gear/upgrade systems.

Going to finish the first one before hopping to 2 (and later on rogue galaxy).

not like this.

>See dark cloud thread
>hopes rising

>it's just some 16 year old's blog post

i really really liked the "warrior death" of his clansman but hes a pudgy asshole to his dad which made me hate him,

Level-5 went to shit in general after the sixth gen.

I tried it but it just was pretty bad, your weapons break with like 10 hits and then you have to return to the village to stock up on items, you come back and the dungeon has been reset, a really cheap way to pad out your game. Also I heard that there are fuckton of levels of the same repetitive randomly generated dungeon, every level looks exactly the same.

I suppose it's the kind of game that you have to play as a kid to get that cozy nostalgic feeling toward it.

OP here

21 year olds blog post*

but seriously didn't mean it to be like that, just lots of nostalgia coming through i guess

>what is a roguelike

Nothing gives me more pain & suffering than accidentally breaking my best weapons while fighting a dragon.

RIP best weapons I've build up.
Yes, I know there was an exploit where you could get a glitched attachment that make gems look like a joke, but I'm talking legit builds. Also the final boss I could easily beat with a slingshot shootin' cat.

Thoughts on this guy?

A roguelike is a game where you have to start over once you die.

Also I've seen plenty of people here compare it to Zelda, what the fuck?

>tfw when 7th heaven+47 level ups breaks on dark genie
fucking crumpled my soul

Building towns and dungeon crawling was the best part of Ocarina.

The monster transformation grind in DC2 was horrible but building your robot was fun.

steve was my nigga, for a slingshot he sure helped my 7 year old brain out alot

Anyone who ever compared Dark Cloud to Zelda never played it. The only exception is early reviewers calling it "Sony's answer to Zelda" in order to get views, not because they actually thought it was like Zelda.

The thing is, I've seen people say things like, "the main character wears Link's same clothes", which is astounding, because that must mean they've never even looked at the game's box art, let alone played it.

You just described permadeaths, not roguelikes.
>Zelda
It's not that people feel that it's a Zelda game, it's that if you were a big Zelda guy considering a PS2 back in the day, this game may have been a major difference maker.

op here

ive heard this to fucking much,
>muh links ears
>RIPOFF

shit was infuriating

...

He looks like Link in the cover art, even the hat looks the same from the front.

>in the Tower
>manage to actually break my Chronicle because dragons take fucking 6-7 dura and it was the one time I didn't have powder on

I actually sat there for a solid five minutes in shock before resetting. I'll go back eighteen floors for that.

Pros:

>weapon system was almost perfect. It's how I'd love to handle progression in a video game, allowing me freedom to choose my weapon and my endgame
>lots of lovable characters
>georama was really cool and something new to me at the time

Cons
>dungeons got too repetitive
>bosses were pushovers if you were familiar with games like Monster hunter
>way too much story
>not alot of endgame content or bonus content aside from 2 dungeons

Nowadays I am mixed on the series. I loved them as a kid, but now they feel a little lukewarm. I guess they didn't age too well.

Is Diablo also a roguelike? C'mon man.

>Dark Cloud
>Way too much story

Maybe Dark Cloud 2, but the first game? wut?

>dark cloud 3 never ever

please dont say dark cloud and that number in the same sentence ever again please god not today

I was pretty much referring to the second one exclusively. Those characters were giant chatterboxes.

Yeah. Still, avenging goro's dad was pretty awesome.

Shame there isn't any real incentive to upgrade that hunter sword since while the sword itself is unique (you can only obtain on that part of the game), the evolutions/buildups aren't.

The weapons part is only a big issue at the start of the game (and before you finish building the first shop).

youtube.com/watch?v=5MyiCn8Wh3o

this sent chills down my spine when i was a kid

oh yeah the serpent sword was kind of a one and down thing,

for some reason i thought the serpent sword became the seventh heaven and i don't know why because reading now it never did

a must play
I liked the weapon upgrade system even though it was tedious as hell
dungeon system was also great

>no battle music; just this for the entire dungeon.

Dark Cloud is fun, but the sequel is much better.Dark Cloud 2 is the first game I was ever addicted to.

>have intense fear of underwater zones in video games
>shipwreck

my childhood was filled with happiness and fear

youtube.com/watch?v=UKQAtwymRPw

>Downloaded Dark Cloud 2 to play it in the PCSX2 emulator
>Dark cloud thread is up.

Did you guys read my mind?

Hey guy, I have an i5 and an hd3000, can i pcsx2 without wanting to kill myself?

I have a i5-6400GT and I always get 55-60fps for the most part.

How would you react if a new Dark Cloud game was in development for smartphones?

Honestly, could work. Building things would take multiple days and you could pay to make it instant. It's like the game was meant to be a mobile game from the start.

I actually finished it fairly recently.

I think it started to get a bit tiresome as time went on, but I still had a lot of fun with it.

I would legitimately hang myself.

I already have nothing to look forward to in life. Hoping for proper Dark Cloud 3 year after year is one of the few things I've bothered to keep even a sliver of faith in.

...

I don't know what they were thinking with that monster thing, it's horrible and takes forever to level.

You have to be a Sup Forums gold user.

>tfw no one has forged toans dagger

It was the only starter weapon i ever really liked,

Years and years later i still wanna make it

Yeah, fuck dragons, and fuck dragons fucking cars, and dragons fucking cars while people inside said car are fucking.

favorite ps2 game
in my top10 game list along with its sequel

HA HEE !!
HAH
HAAAH

i don't care
lvl5 is dead especially after white knight chronicles

>does the charge attack
>toan does the werid steppin booty shake
>miss the bat

Comparing to some projects out there, it doesn't seem to be that hard to replicate (assuming you know how to forge/blacksmithing or maybe sculpting).

>as a kid
>tfw grounded 24/7 until I left the house at 19
>can't play ps2 games now without looking like a man child or autist

I played the second game. I don't remember much of it other then it felt repetitive to play after awhile. It seemed like a cool game though so idk I might just not have been feeling it that week. I never beat it.

well the hard part will begetting the co9rrect tang because the handle itself is a tad unique,

and then the hump running in the middle of the blade can be tricky if you don't have the right tools to attach to your anvil
im still gonna do it one day,...one day..;-;

fuck what other people think user. thats your nostalgia, thats your childhood. you do what makes you happy

should have been a better child you little shit. also, fuck what people think play what games you want to play for fucks sake.

I hope you get to fulfill that dream user.

a roguelike is a game that is like the game rogue
having permadeath or randomly generated dungeons or what fucking have you does NOT constitute a roguelike

Vidya is meant to be a social hobby.

...

thank you user
dark cloud is what got me into knives and sharp objects in the first place,
see

there's no reason to focus on anyone other than Osmonde when you get him, he's actually broken. His machinegun scales in a way where it's ridiculously easy to cap it out, and then you're shredding enemies for obscene amounts of damage. Couple that with the fact that he's the only character in the game who can move while attacking and you can circle strafe and shred down absolutely everything really quickly. And if I recall correctly, his machinegun is hitscan so you can't even miss.

technically you "cant" miss
but the enemies "can" dodge

What you just said is just as retarded as what he said.
If anything, you're the one out of place here you fucking tryhard autist.
"board culture"
"newfag"
"lurk more"
You and I both know you're just a teenager.

>does NOT constitute a roguelike

"Roguelike-lite" or console roguelike is a perfectly valid sub-genre. Console roguelikes are more generous about death penalties, but they're otherwise based mostly on Rogue's mechanics.

Having just one element doesn't make a game a roguelike. e.g. Diablo isn't a roguelike despite having randomly generated environments. It's just a game that has roguelike elements. But series like Fushigi no Dungeon ARE roguelikes, or roguelike-lites, or console roguelikes. Whatever you want to call them. They're predominantly modeled after Rogue.

I want to live in Queens!

>not wanting to living on the moon
user...

for me it would be norune

woah

No it isn't, you fucking moron.
Ignoring the fact that it is a retarded term to begin with, and that you seem to think adding "lite" and "console" to it is a good idea and not at all obnoxious and redundant, it's not a valid category that helps properly define a game, because it has no fucking meaning. It's just always used to refer to any game with the following mechanics, which by the way Rogue was not the first one to use or invent:
Permadeath
Randomly Generated anything (Be it locations, stats, so on forth)
or ASCII graphics
