I'd still be excited if they picked the story back up, but at the same time, I would know there is a nearly impossible chance it would turn out to be a good sequel.
valve is not in the game dev business anymore, they're purely corporate now, and in it for the bottom dollar. they're great at it too and I respect them for that, but I'm not going to delude myself into thinking that they're still the same group of people with same values that made HL1 and ep 1 and 2.

There's a forthcoming comic set in the HL2 universe, it wouldn't surprise me if they licence a Telltale game, that doesn't mean HL3 is coming.

There was a leaked internal memo back in 2015 about 'projects in development' that ended with '...project borealis; shitcanned in 2011, but announcing it will cause a massive shitstorm and can't afford the negative press with the greenlight fiasco'.

They were planning to announce its official cancellation because there weren't enough developers, artists etc. left to work on it (all left due to lack of morale); writers, artists, engineers etc - all moved onto different studios and projects, but Greenlight had increasingly negative press and they'd been trying to find a way to move past it, but realised that they can't officially do that, spell the end of greenlight, deal with the massive shitstorm at the same time.

Its gone. Buried. They unofficially stopped in 2011, when a salty developer/writer left and slowly leeched all of the funding from it to more profitable ventures over the next few years.

Half-Life as a series is over.

It being worked on means nothing when it comes to valve.

The structure at Valve is that people are free to work on anything they please, be it DOTA, Team Fortress, Portal, whatever.

So a whole team could be working on HL3, but just as feasible is that very few people are working on it, and because of that it's making very little progress.

It could be a month away, and it could be still several years away. The messy structure of Valve means it's pretty much impossible to know for sure.

I don't give a shit about this developer or this series anymore.
