My guess is is that Nintendo implemented this because they either want to protect kids from voice chat in their system OR they forgot to add it to their system in the first place. Or they could just be plain stupid and thought it was a good idea to do this via phones.

Either way Nintendo needs to get with the times and add voice chat to their base system. Otherwise, the Switch will not be taken very seriously as the PS4/PC/X1 platforms are for shooter games. Its no wonder COD is gonna miss this platform, because of that, and its technical limitations.

With the exception of Splatoon, Mario Kart, Pokken, and the inevitable Smash 5 (or more likely Smash 4 port), nearly all of their games are either single-player RPGs and platformers, or have their online features deliberately gimped in order to promote couch co-op. Paying for their online wouldn't seem like a winning proposition even if you disregard the voice chat controversy.

A.)Use the software, then oblivious Nintendo assumes it's fine and then never bothers to change/update it.

B.)No one uses the software until Nintendo promises to fix it, and oblivious Nintendo assumes that people don't want online voice chat, retires it, and then goes on to not include voice chat at all in upcoming titles.

It's a lose lose when you're dealing with a company as out of touch as the big N. A company that thought that the voice chat app would be a good idea in the first place, and then released it in the state it was in thinking it was good enough.
