You have two choices for Smash 5 on Switch:

1. Builds off Smash 4 with another 15 new characters and stages etc but the gameplay style stays pretty much the same and returning characters are almost the exact same.

2. Total reboot with redone gameplay and every character done from scratch, but the roster is limited to 20-25 characters.

Which do you choose?

Are there any clones in choice 2?

no, everyone is redone from scratch, so ganondorf is no longer a falcon clone (if he makes the roster) etc.

everyone has brand new movesets, gameplay is as different as you'd like it to be.

The first one is actually realistic whereas the second one is a Melee purists' wet dream.

I choose 2 but 1 is a lot more realistic. 2 could happen now that Nintendo is making some pretty cool shit for the Switch, but if Sora Ltd. is involved in anyway it's guaranteed Smash 4 port or Brawl 3.0.

why a melee purist's wet dream? it wouldn't be a melee roster or melee gameplay.

basically, I'm asking if you want them to do like Mortal Kombat basically does where old characters feel totally new each time, or like Dead or Alive / Virtua Fighter where movesets stay pretty much fixed over time.

most Smash characters have been pretty set in terms of playstyle since Melee. That's why I'd like a reboot to be honest... to get away from Melee and its derivatives, not to go back to it.

I don't care about realistic. 2. Also do I get to choose how the gamplay and movesets are redone?

why not, it's all hypothetical anyway.

2, as long as there's no optimized dlc characters

>it wouldn't be a melee roster or melee gameplay.
Why? It's generally agreed that Melee has the best movement mechanics out of all the games, so a reboot should use Melee mechanics as a base and then work off of that.

If I have complete control over the project 2, if not 1.

if it used Melee as a base it clearly wouldn't be a reboot. whole idea would be a game that feels like a fresh break from the last three games.

that said, i'd want a game that's easy to pick up but with a high skill ceiling like Melee.

I can't think of many more characters I want added to Smash, but if you cut it to 25 I'll lose a lot of those I like to play. So 1.

1, are you kidding me?

If that's how you define a reboot then fine, but now this idea sounds really unattractive. Unless you have something in mind, it's not better to redo all the base mechanics if what you have is worse than what you had. Tekken is a great example of what happens when you find the perfect formula and stick with it while improving it with every installment.

This.

3. Almost the exact same game execpt with all the oddly priced 5.99 characters included, along with the maps from the 3ds version. Maybe a couple of characters from brawl.
Basically Smash 4 Deluxe, it only came out 2.5 years ago

>2. Total reboot with redone gameplay and every character done from scratch, but the roster is limited to 20-25 characters.
This but follow Smash 64's gameplay. Heavy characters, hard recovery, bullshit combos outt he ass.

tekken is exactly what i'd want to avoid. same shit, different engine, every time. redoing the base elements - even how you perform special moves, smash attacks, everything - that's exactly what i want to see.

so it seems that with my proposal of a full reboot people aren't too fond of the idea.

>so it seems that with my proposal of a full reboot people aren't too fond of the idea.
I'm still into it. I've had ideas for how to retool the Smash system for years, and if the current system keeps going they're just going to run out of any more good characters to add.

they already have imo
back in melee and brawl people could get super excited about characters like bowser, zelda, pit, meta knight being added. they were big names or extremely unique characters.

now? first of all the character pool is so deep that it's impossible for a new character to feel that different, and secondly there are no big names out there to excite any but the most extreme hardcore nintenbro.

i'd be more excited by the idea that they're totally redoing link to be his BotW incarnation with all the runes than I would some cunt like Isaac or Geno being added.

Smash is made with the philosophy of simple controls, which gives you very little room to work with. So I feel redoing everything will just end you with something similar to the existing system.

>I've had ideas for how to retool the Smash system for years
Can you share some?

>so it seems that with my proposal of a full reboot people aren't too fond of the idea.
I'm afraid not, friendo. The basic Smash system is too good to waste.

Bump

>Can you share some?
You know the type 3 Stamina mode Project M had? Use that instead. You win by depleting hp and the current damage system gets turned into a method for dealing or getting out of combos. Wall combos especially would become really important, which means plenty of closed-in stages.
Every character has a unique defensive option. Some can only dodge, some can only block physical moves but require perfect timing to block projectiles, and some are the opposite of that and can walk around freely while blocking. No more counter special moves, counters are now a type of defensive option.
Moves can combo into each other and have more complexity.
Example moveset: Mario, he wouldn't be the most balanced character anymore, but it would better match how his games are.
>B: PowerUp- changes depending on the last item Mario held. When it's a fireflower he gets his regular fireballs, mushrooms give him a kick with high knockback, the hammer gives him a spinning move that can be used for recovery.
>Up B: Spin- Can reflex projectiles.
>Side B: Cap Throw- Pretty much how it works in Odyssey, stays out for as long as you hold the button
>Down B: Summon Powerup- Mario summons an item from the very top of the stage, similar to the backup powerups from Mario World. Mario can grab it while it slowly falls down, but an opponent can take it. There's 5 items that cycle, with enough practice you can always get the powerup you want from it.

2. get someone who knows what they are doing unlike that hack Sakura (Hackura)

this sounds absolutely terrible to me, but it's the kind of total reboot of ideas that i'm talking about so props for that.

It's the defensive thing isn't it? I can't explain the whole thing that fast, you'd love it after seeing it in practice

>unlike that hack Sakura

The fuck you say about my waifu, bitch?

2. If I want to play smash 4 I have two options to play it on. I want a new game with a new director

that lucina is fucking awful

Choice one is making a good sequel. Choice two is making Marvel Infinite or SFV. The game is worse and all of your favorite characters are now dlc. Falco, DeeDeeDee, Game&Watch, Luigi, Roy, and Ice Climbers are season one. Captain Falcon is in season two, but the rest are shitty newcomers from indie kickstarter games. Allegedly Ganondorf and Rosalina are confirmed for season three, but the the Smash 5 Deluxe leak with Ike, Snake, Wolf, and Ness was confirmed fake.

>Falco - shit character, clone
>Deedeedee - shit character, literally who
>Game & Watch - intentional joke character who has overstayed his welcome by a decade
>Luigi - clone
>Roy - shit character, clone
>Ice Climbers - good character to be fair
>Captain Falcon - he'd never not be in the base roster
>Ganondorf - see Falcon above
>Rosalina - nah, fuck her, too many Mario characters already
>Ike - good character, would be missed
>Snake - get this 3rd party shit out of here
>Wolf - clone
>Ness - was in one shitty game two decades ago, his time has passed

Put it all together and it doesn't seem so bad to cut the roster down to size, does it?

You act like you'd be getting good characters as a replacement. You won't. The game also has les depth than Smash 4.

I'd take a mix of 1 and 2.

I would take number 1 but only have a maximum of 5 characters and use the rest of the resources to update veterans to put them on pair with smash 4 newcomers. (i.e. Mario, Luigi, Gannon could do with updating)

You're the one being put in control of #2, you can make it better

this is a disgusting post even for bait

Prove me wrong.

This could work greatly as an alternative smash concept.

2 made by HAL.
