Is there a platformer or sidescrolling game where you control a character with a variety of moves similar to fighting games (SF, GG, BB) or action games (DMC, Bayonetta)?

Odin Sphere: Leifthrasir

There's a 2 d Bloodrayne game and a sea Genesis game called Comix Zone. That's it.

The Odin Sphere rerelease.

Is it any different from the original? I played the one on PS2 and I remember only having to mash buttons.

The gameplay is almost completely changed from the PS2 version and it feels 100% better and has a much better flow.

Seems pretty button mashy from the two videos (I know, not fair of me) I've seen. Does it have a high skill ceiling somewhere with insane combos?

Like said it's almost a brand new game gameplay wise. Here's a random combo video i looked up on youtube

On the highest difficulty (unfortunately only unlocked after beating the game once) most enemies are harder to stagger and will 1 or 2 shot you, so you rely on pulling off long combos because your opportunities for them are fewer.

you can assign like half of your skills to fighting game inputs (qcf, dp, etc.)

Rain Blood Chronicles: Mirage
/cgg/ also hosts style tournaments with it

Guilty Gear Isuka

Don't let the fact it's on the gba deceive you, you have a pretty wide variety of moves. It has a lot of action with variety as it features both beat-em-up and shump levels.

Viewtiful Joe

Dragon's Crown. Odin Sphere Leifthrasir. Valdis Story. Dungeon Fighter Online.

Imagine being able to freely choose your control inputs for every special move in the game without restrictions. Quarter circles, half circles, zigzags, forward back forward with each button available.

Not imagine doing this with 5 characters that play completely differently.
It has the most open ended combat of any game I have ever played. And if played right, becomes one of the greatest and most rewarding gmaes of all time.

Honourable mention to Rainblood Chronicles, the 2D Chinese dmc.

...

you're fucking retarded and you need a forward slash in front of the second one like so

ctrl+s, nintenbro, try it.

There's this indie game coming out soon and Valkyrie Profile

fuck, wrong webm

Indivisible is nothing like what OP asked for, you retarded shill.

...

My memory is hazy, but isn't Viewtiful Joe like that?

it has fighting game inspired moves and there's platforming
this is fact

This. Also, Guacamelee.

Dragon's Crown.
Kirbys.

It has combat that is entirely separated from the platforming and the combat is a rip-off of Valkyrie Profile, not anything resembling a fighting game.

>Kirbys.
Never thought about Kirby like this but it's actually right, specially for the fighter power.

This looks like garbage

Based Treasure. Op check their other games too. Gunstar heroes and Alien soldier on Genesis, Gunstar super heroes on gba and Guardian heroes.

Valdis Story

That's just an rpg though, OP is asking for a game with fighting game-inspired controls

Viewtiful Joe
Fairy Bloom Freesia
Strider 2014 (Strider 2 is arguably a better 2D action game, but doesn't have as many moves)

Valdis Story has a combo system, and you can customize your build for different playstyles.

I really wanted to like this game but the lack of input queue and the enemies that explode if your combos are too long made me drop it.

>Strider 2014
I'm two hours in, so far it's just running and mashing because bullets are impossible to dodge so just mashing to deflect is better and enemies drop more health than the damage they deal anyway
does it get better?
