What I am in for? Never played DQ before.
Just started this game in my 3DS
play VII first
Is there a version with Japanese dub?
English dub doesn't sound good.
Japanese version didn't even have a dub
VII doesn't have voices at all. In the case that you're talking about VIII, I suggest you get better taste
Great game, but you should have not started with it
4,5,6 would be a great entry for you, especially 6
VIII's English dub is great, wtf are you talking about?
People that think everything that comes from Japan is actually better than anywhere else
It actually is though.
Just sayin
No it's not. The Japanese are humans just like everyone else.
>3DS version of DQVIII
You fucked up
>Japanese are humans
heh.
>Choose english dub
>Eww this is shit
>Choose japanese dub
>Wtf I can't read
People says 3DS version is much better other than graphic
3DS version has much worse music and graphics than the PS2 original, which far outweighs the little bits of extra content they added.
DQ8 = the only good DQ game in the series.
I got the one with music ripped from ps2 version I believe.
An alright, if a bit linear, JRPG. For the DQ series it's somewhere in the middle between the low quality DQs (DQ9 for example) and the high quality ones (DQ7, DQ5, DQ4).
The only thing you really need to know is that the Zoom spell should be used pretty much at all times in the DQ series.
Though I would recommend playing the 3DS version of DQ7 instead as it is at least three times as good (arguably it's the highest point of the series, possibly contending with 5) and it has more interesting combat, job system and story/mini-stories/area vignettes to boot. The first few areas are a bit slow but the game picks up it's pace about the time you unveil the first new island.
No you got the one with the music ripped from the jap release. It still has a few non orchestrated tracks. Starting town at night is a big one.
Only if you hacked your 3DS.
Undub version also has restored orchestral music.
Arguably the graphics are worse but honestly the fixes more than make up for it. (and you can be a Jessica waifufag to boot in 3DS unlike the PS2 version)
Don't listen to this guy, this is a symptom of shit taste.
This guy knows his shit.
Personally I recommend maybe looking into III on the snes as well. It would require a fan translation but that should be barely a problem, finding a already patched rom is easy.
I just picked up.7 and 8. Loving them both but 7 takes a while to get going. 10 hours in and I feel I e accomplished accomplishednothing. By the way do these games have any good post game content?
I did hack it but the cia i found is only orchestrated but not dub
7's is pretty mediocre but the first super boss is a good challenge if you're playing the game normally and not abusing the class system.
8 has a shit ton including a story relevant post game area, and a boss rush style dungeon when you beat that. Should add way more play time even if min maxing.
You can get 2 endings with Jessica, one involves marriage. Don't neglect party chat, randomly mixing items is OK for the most part.
Ignore the shitposter about graphics and music, the draw distance in the PS2 version is inferior to the 3DS one. It's not an outright stomp by the PS2 version. There's also free DLC every week that you should download. Max tension makes you into a super saiyan, everyone can do this.
Always be polite to Jessica and make sure she's the one you marry.
I will try them out before 11 came out.
Thanks user
you mean there are a lot of waifus we can choose
>arguably
It's 240 fucking p
As a huge weeb that loves to use the jap dub for almost all games, this is one of the few that I won't do it for. Its got an amazing english dub but I might be a bit biased as I talk exactly like Yangus
DQ7 is a lot more rewarding imo. There you get real interesting content like saving a very religious/spiritual people, only for their safety to lead them to non-spiritual commercialism, and the final return to decency once good has triumphed. And that's just one small vignette out of lots.
DQ8 mostly has it's characters development and the locatinos tend to function more as set-pieces for that and the main story.
As for post-game content both DQ7 and DQ8 have two hard-ish dungeons.
DQ7 is more of an alternate universe deal with fun boss fights.
DQ8 (the 3DS version anyway) has two alternate ending unlocks and further boss fights.
A mediocre jrpg with a boring story
3DSISO has the undubbed orchestrated version. (it reverts to english lines in like 9-10 places throughout the game but the vast majority is japanese)
do you say cor blimey too?
what did he mean by guv tho?
I haven't said that in years, the more I drink the closer I get to him.
Think of that like saying sir or for any guy older than you or something, thats pretty old fashioned though
>you can be a Jessica waifufag to boot in 3DS unlike the PS2 version
No one cares you fucking retard
Play the PS2 version. Why the fuck would you subject yourself to 240p when you have other options?
because of QoL improvements like actually being able to see all skills in a skill tree (instead of just seeing the next one by talking to one very specific NPC), giving your Hero an AI-controlled tactic so grinding/moving from a to b takes less time, 2 extra party members and 2 extra dungeons
>2 extra party members
Morrie is fucking awesome too.
Somebody told me that the new party members can be swapped during battle like Final Fantasy X, is this shit true?
Is it alright to play DG7 or 8 as first enty to the series?
>QoL improvements like actually being able to see all skills in a skill tree (instead of just seeing the next one by talking to one very specific NPC)
non issue
>giving your Hero an AI-controlled tactic so grinding/moving from a to b takes less time
I can see why people would like this but i couldn't care less
>2 extra party members
Morrie is cool but don't care for Red
>2 extra dungeons
Complete trash compared to the original post-game
Yes, i'd even recommend it with DQ7 as it's what inspired me to actually check out the rest of the series.
Bros before hoes
I think only at places where you have access to the carriage, so in the overworld yes, but not in dungeons
Note that bosses like the bird and marcello on the holy island are considered overworld fights
I think they actually made those fights harder because they expect you to have one or two extra party members
He's not much of a bro though.
I know...
