Now that the dust has settled, what did Sup Forums REALLY think about this game?

The change in fall damage was stupid.

Just okay. World and enemy designs were trash in general. Gank squads were obnoxious over time and ADP and soul memory were stupid inclusions. Completionist tier game.

Better than 1, both being 8/10 games with their own frustrations and bullshit, but 2 improved upon the concept almost double-time. 3 improved graphics and the "feel" of combat, but removed a lot of 2's improvements for no resaon.

3 = BB > SOTFS > 1 before Anor Londo = 2 > 1 after Anor Londo

Not a patch on the first one, slight better than the 3rd?

You keep saying "improvements", can you actually list them?

Actually let me add

DS1 for the first playthrough >>> 3

DS1 is just the least interesting to replay, and you have to configure it with mods to make it run and look as good as would be expected

The speedrun last night reminded me how much of a chore the game actually was to play through and any thought of giving it another try was instantly killed on the spot.

More of everything, better combat flow, better and more varied world design.
More builds, more variable builds, more weapons to make variable builds with, more sorceries, more miracles, hexes and dark magic, more interesting covenants in concept because covenants in Souls games never work anyway.

Just more of everything good and improvements on the core gameplay. Also SOTFS has to this day the least laggy online play, it's a shame that Soul Memory is a real thorn, but in some cases, like getting SM past a certain point (was it 5 million or so? roughly NG+3) it doesn't matter anymore, and if you really wanted to stick to a level you could just use Agape Ring at the cost of hiding your dark phantom color or whatever ring you'd have otherwise.

>More of everything
>better and more varied world design.
>Just more of everything good

>quality = quantity

>to make variable builds with
To make viable builds with is what I meant here
Also powerstancing.

>m-muh hitboxes
Shockwaves were a thing but not so bad or frequent that you couldn't beat the area and mvoe on, so no reason to cry about it
>m-m-muh fps issues degrading weapons too fast
Literally only happened me once in No Man's Wharf with the varangian broadsword, which already has low durability
>m-m-m-muh world connectivity
Oh please, that's such fucking nitpicking and you know it

It was REALLY shit

When the base quality is as high as before but there's objectively more quality, there's no loss. Stop deliberately misreading what Anons post, you'll just be seen as a retard.

>objectively more quantity
I'm going to bed now. this is pretty much objective truth on a game design perspective, and also the words of someone who's played each game in the series many many hundreds of hours more than most of (more likely all of) Sup Forums. Not gonna argue further.

>better world design

This topic is still going to be discussed 20 years from now.

who decides when the dust has settled

1>2>3
Debate me
Protip: I dont give a flying fuck

Being able to repair sacrifice rings (and being able to wear 4 rings) made the whole YOU DIED thing irrelevant.

I liked it better than three if only for the rolls not having so many fucking i-frames. It wasn't great. It was serviceable. I enjoyed collecting all the equipment and weapons more than I did actually using them. Inferior to all other games except 3.

You are LITERALLY, SUBJECTIVELY and OBJECTIVELY correct

I don't like it. I've poured maybe 60 hours into this Das2 across two consoles and I still can't bring myself to finish it. It just isn't fun.

The vanilla game is the worst in the series hands down, I can only remember a few bosses of the top of my head from vanilla, it's shit.

DLC is probably the only reason to like this game, outside of the PVP and weapons. As the DLC is actually pretty good.

It's shit and more people liking it here shows how normalfag central this place was become
I played DaS and DaS2 literally side by side and it's disgusting how bad DaS2 was, from movement to level design DaS2 was atrocious
Next we'll have faggots praising Bioshock Infinite

give me your opinion on Bioschock and dark souls 3 so I know if to discard you or not

I didn't have fun with it. Most levels were a chore to go through, weapons felt like shit, and it didn't even have my favorite armor. Most bosses weren't even interesting. Also, DLC trashmobs taking ten jillion hits to die are a fucking terrible idea.

Terrible single-player, Amazing multi-player. Not as good as ds1 but much better than ds3

Some retarded design decisions here and there (like the path to Ornstein being 100x harder than the boss, shrine of amana and iron keep being cover shooting sections, many disappointing and recycled bosses, ADP being a stat, soul memory, abusable life gems) but i had more fun with it.

Bioshock was an okay game, not the masterpiece some people claim it to be but I had fun with plasmids, can't say the same about Infinite's vigors tho.I also though Bioshock gunplay felt better than Infinite's and I played it after BI.
I haven't played DaS3 yet but it's hard to imagine it's worse than DaS2

>like the path to Ornstein being 100x harder than the boss
nigga you can just sprint to it easily, did you miss a bonfire or something?

I assume he means painting guardians on the rafters, gargs, silver knights on the ramparts

woops I only played the original Dark Souls 2, I didn't think about the Scholar edition. I heard they added new mobs though

More the first time you go there, heide knights suddenly agro out of nowhere and are made of brickwalls and hit like brickwalls, then theres a dragon blocking the path for reasons.
Then you reach Ornstein and you blow a light wind at him and he drops dead.

That;s SotFS retardation. You just fought a bunch of the old knights in vanilla.

Downloading, what am I getting into?

Having played lots of DS1 and then DS3, I found SotFS hard to get into once I acquired it.

Mechanics feel wonky, weird character stats, fucking water, beginner area full with high level knights.

You are supposed to go to the forest of fallen giants first.

You are objectively wrong.

You are correct.

good game but worst in the series

best game in the series

>he thinks people like Bioshock for the gameplay
>he himself judges Bioshock on gameplay alone
You possibly have literal autism as that would explain the obvious lack of an emotional response to the game.
Nobody on earth liked playing Infinite for its combat or gameplay, it is the 10/10 story and character development. Not even talking about the twists, just the fucking development of Elizabeth is amazing. One of the few characters in gaming that feel like they are more than a quest dispenser for the player. I can only think of 2 or 3 other characters that felt as real as she did, and not on a "MUH waifu" level either, I am gay and had no sexual or romantic interests in her.

you can beat them by strafing to the left and swiping with an offhand dagger, it's not hard once you learn the movesets for their 3 weapons.

...

No, you are simply retarded. Everyone who has played infinite all nearly unanimously agree that the combat is shit. The gunplay is repetitive, you only get to carry two weapons, there are clearly good weapons and shitty useless ones, you never use half the vigors because they are too weak and simply using a gun gets the job done faster and better, the boss fights are all obnoxious. The only redeeming thing the gameplay had was the rollercoasting around, and even that feels like a dumb gimmick at times with the rail being placed in areas that make no sense from a world pov and are just there for the player to use.
No, everyone knows Infinite gameplay was shit, and had it been any worse than it is I reckon a lot of people would not have stuck it out to the end.

I think user was more referencing the focus of a game. Do you watch a movie just because it has great visuals? I doubt it. I get where you're coming from but a game should have focus on gameplay with a nice story on top, not to compensate for the lack of gameplay surely

It's pretty bad. I wasn't even a part of the massive hype train that was going on here and I was still disappointed. It just doesn't feel good. The moment I moved the left stick I thought it was gross.
So many good ideas down the drain. Don't know why From always forgets everything they did right in the previous game.

No. I was talking about his claim of it having a 10/10 story and character development which I should've greentexted, I guess. But yeah, what you said is right too.

I really like it. Got my friend into the series with ds2: sotfs since it was cheap on PC. One we've played the shit out of it we'll go into ds1 then 3.

2nd best souls game
BB>DS2>DS3>DeS>DS1

Thanks to the horrendous quality it's the best piece of unintentional comedy I've played in recent times.

It just makes me depressed seeing the leftover torch sconces being mostly useless.

And IF they are used they are only glorified switches.

that movie was so bad jesus

One of the worst AAA games of the decade

DS1>SotFS>DS3>DS2>BB>DeS

I like it. Just started, though. Here are my thoughts

Good:
>Improved visuals
>Majula > Firelink Shrine (don't crucify me)
>Jumping is easier now
>Minor improvements on menu and interface functions

Bad:
>Losing health every time you die is unfair; ruins the concept of "everything in dark souls is fair" that the first one had going for it
>human effigies are hard to come by

Overall I enjoy it though.

Have you found the Ring of Binding yet?

I will agree that DS2 is more unforgiving than the other games, but that just adds to its charm and difficulty imo. It's the hardest game in the series, maybe not for the best reasons to some, but I still enjoy it.

Same plan. Still some bosses left to do. Some areas like Dragon Aerie or the melted Eleum Loyce kinda suck since you can only use shades in there. Can't co-op Vendrick either.

Kinda want him to play 1 by himself though. DaS 1 matchmaking kinda seems more of a pain too.

Loved SOTFS, I can understand people that didn't like the original DS2 though.

I can't do it, I literally cannot stand this game. How the fuck do people play 30fps garbage?

Quality b8 there lad

Terrible bosses, okay everything else.

It appears my opinion triggers you.

I'm not biting, so no need to try so hard

You're still replying. If it actually were bait, that means you fell for it.

calling out bait isn't falling for bait, unless you're of the "I got a (you)" school of thought and think you achieved something, in which case; I tip my hat, ya got me. Such is the level of "trolling" that exists these days.

Again, the fact that you consider my opinion to be bait is just making me laugh harder. Go cry somewhere else.

>human effigies are hard to come by

>join Company of champion
>farm infinite lizard man in Shrine of Amana within 3 feet outside of a bonfire for infinite human effigy.

I always have around 40 human effigies and I pop effigies for every boss fight like no big deal.

Another good things is how much better weapon upgrade is compare to DS1.

DS 1 give you 1 Titanite slab per play thought.
in DS2 you can;t walk 10 step without tripping over Titanite of all kind, making it possible to try as many weapon build as possible.

k

My favorite Souls game

It improved over 1 in all the ways that actually mattered, save for some retarded shit like the fall damage, durabilty bug and the overworld making no fucking sense

>obligatory "m-muh volcano elevator"

It's shit, feels like a chinese Souls knockoff with abysmal level design and combat. People complain about shit like Blighttown and Lost Izalith, but there's about 7 or 8 levels in DaS2 that are just as bad if not worse than those two, and the rest of the game isn't as good to make up for it. Out of the 40 something bosses in the game, about 6 of them could be considered well done, and they're pretty much all big dudes in armor. The only redeeming factor of this mess is powerstancing, which I thought was pretty cool. If you rank this turd higher than any game except for DaS3, you're a fucking idiot

Cool pasta Ahmed, wanna bring it to the facts and logic house?

>muh big dudes in armor meme
Fuck me I hate it when retards like you parrot this shit like it's the truth. Less than half the bosses are guys in armor, compared to Bloodborne where 99% of bosses are all big hairy werewolves.

Dark Souls 2 was better than 1 unironically.

You can ancient dragon/earthen peek to iron keep shitpost all you want but that won't make the second half of DS1 any less awful.

Your post won't make the whole of DS2 less awful, that's for sure
Also
>second half
more like the last quarter, to be honest, third if you really scrape it.
