They said a couple years ago the only reason why they would look into the feature is because people are dying to pay $10 to do so like blizzard.

It's just a display name. It should always be free no matter what. Steam and Origin have no problems with this, I hate being taken for a fucking fool under the "we don't want it to be abused :^)" anti-consumer meme. Restrict it to once every few months at the very least. There is no excuse for asking someone to pull out a credit card over it.

From my understanding Microsoft uses identifiers for users and the gamertag can easily be changed. Sony uses the actual user name in their databases so it fucks up leaderboards and a whole host of other issues if you were to change it.

Oh good, I only had to wait 8 fucking years. Not only that, but a Sony console isn't even my primary system anymore. In those 8 years I've built two completely separate computers. I didn't play Sony games online because teenage me made a stupid name and I got harassed like crazy when online. It wasn't worth the trouble. If Sony let me change my name like I asked back when I was still using a PSP and PS3, I very likely would have stayed with Sony. I wasn't going to make a new account and abandon my digital games just because I wanted a new name.

Sony is so out-of-touch. Lets hope they follow Microsoft's lead and include ACTUAL backwards compatibility next. Oh I'm sorry, lets not hope that because Sony is perfect in every way. Sorry Sup Forums, I didn't mean to speak ill of everyone's favourite multi-billion-dollar corporation.

Haven't clicked the link, but the stories I've seen from other places are all speculating that these things might be in because the other features from that survey have mostly been added. As far as I can tell, nobody is saying these things are definitely in the 5.0 update.

This is clickbait. They're just taking the most-requested features from the survey and using that as a basis to guess what Sony may put in the next update. They have no evidence which would suggest this is actually happening.

I'm sure Sony would have introduced the feature a long time ago if they could. My understanding is it's a technical limitation, not something they've simply refrained from doing.
