The issue is that he content he has replaced with his Angry reviews is fucking terrible. It's nothing but reaction videos and videos of him complaining about fucking Nintendo or something. The reviews themselves are also a lot worse when compared to his earlier ones. He uses way too much footage of the game and doesn't actually talk about the game. The footage is just from his stream as well and most of it is him and Other Joe experiencing a bug or something and laughing for like 5 minutes.

This. This is the same shit that sank Nostalgia Critic and other review channels. People get popular, then think or some reason it makes them comic geniuses. They start adding their own content and skits, and people start drifting away because they aren't coming to the channel to watch "lol so funny original comedy", they want a review with some jokes thrown in. But the reviewers either get afraid they'll get stale, or a swollen ego, and everything goes to shit.

There was absolutely nothing wrong with Joe's original short 20-25 second 'skit' intros where Joe dresses up as the character and punches someone, that's all we need and/or want.

Wanting Youtube to be an actual life long career is completely unrealistic. These guys need to look back at all those super popular Youtubers of years passed who suddenly up and left at the height of their Youtube presence. You know why? I'll play devil's advocate. The economy is changing and being a Youtube is probably something that can't be automated. In other words YouTube is a part of the future (or current economy).

With that said you are completely right that YouTube can be very temporary. A lot of people rise to popularity very quickly and then fail to transition into more professional channels to continue growing. A good example of a channel that is making that transition well would be LinusTechTips.

It depends really. Someone with 3-5 million + subs can rake in quite a bit of money.

As long as you don't pull a DSP (blowing all your money for a McMansion and other stupid shit) you could absolutely live comfortably.

The key is to diversify and stay relevant. Some youtubers have basically been able to semi-retire due to the revenue they have brought in. (and living frugally in a small place)
