The parrots are not going of their own free will, but they are still going. The elephants were just observed by the rabbit and observed the monkeys, they were not going to the river.

wouldnt it mean all 6 elephants saw the 2 monkeys, not each of the 6 elephants saw 2 different monkeys?

That's why I said 5 or 25, the way it's written means 2 total monkeys, but I think the author's intent was 2 monkeys each.

It's 5. The use of the word "Every" implies that each elephant saw the exact same thing. Every elephant saw 2 monkeys. If it were "Each" elephant saw two monkeys, the total would be 25 (Rabbit, 12 monkeys carrying 12 parrots). A rabbit, and two monkeys carrying one bird each.

The rabbit is going in the river not towards it.
