Is this the pinnacle of the JRPG genre?
Is this the pinnacle of the JRPG genre?
no, the game I'm doing is
if you like shitty 2d games that is
I hope not
hate to break it to you but the genre peaked when they released that ps1 disk with both FF6 and chronotrigger on it
Why not? Why didn't you like about it, and what did you think was better?
The feeling of adventure/exploration, as well as camaraderie between the characters, is unmatched IMO. This game is pure delight.
Which version should i try?
The Game Cube "Legends' version, probably easier to emulate and adds a few sidequests as well as reduces the rate of random encounter which was one of the flaws of the original version
Real fucking goddamn men play the DC version.
No.
>Retarded ways to end the game on accident
GTFO
>higher than normal random encounter rate
>magic system is useless except for delta shield/justice shield/heal spells
>tedious combat system
>all you need to do is spam pirates wrath to win
Is this Dolphin with wide screen hack?
What?
nope
Partial to this DC RPG, but mad respect to SoA. This was the first JRPG that actually felt fun to play. Killer dialogue too.
>Shadow the Hedgehog
I didn't wanna say anything, but I chuckled when I saw that in his image
No. This is.
There are better RPGs.
On the PSP, even.
>Trails of anime garbage
Leave.
That's what jrpgs tend to boil down to yes
In gameplay terms, probably yes. Shits all over the games I have story and setting based nostalgia for.
>Big Guard
>Putting up with lesser content and nuisance encounters
>Somehow claiming this makes you superior
Cringe.
calvard when?
Good taste user, but as well as Ao no Kiseki handles buildup and hype I still wouldn't say it takes Skies' spot as my favorite JRPG of all time- mostly because it doesn't have the sense of adventure and focuses more on mystery and action, which it does very well but it's just a different kind of feeling
That and Trails is all one big consistent story, so it doesn't feel right to judge it until it's finished- it's ambitious and pretty impressive how far it's gone, but it's basically inevitable that Falcom's going to fuck it up near the end with all the pressure they've put on themselves
Grandia is definitely one of the better JRPG series out there
I'd say 1 is probably the closest that any other JRPG comes to matching Skies' feeling of adventure, and maybe even surpasses it
I wouldn't dare try to compare them because it would end up in a battle between Grandia's combat and Skies' airship exploration, so I'm satisfied just acknowledging them both as very good games
>Bitching about encounters in a JRPG
lol wut
>it's basically inevitable that Falcom's going to fuck it up near the end
I fear they'll fuck up in Sen III to be honest. So far it seems they are trying to put in too many things for one game. I really hope I'm mistaken though.
I KNOW, GODDAMN GAME ARTS FOR THEIR GREAT BATTLE SYSTEM
I played the absolute dogshit out of SoA and Grandia 1 and 2, and love them all. I can't possibly pick an overall favorite, but I enjoy actually playing G2 the most.
Absolutely not, the latter half was like running through tar with the amount of random battles there were.
My fucking nigga. Grandia 1 and 2 were both absolute fucking masterpieces.
I just wish X and the rest of Grandia wasn't shit.
Nah
I love Skies of Arcadia but no.
However when I try to think of the best JRPG ever I find myself coming up short on actually choosing one.
Come over and say that, sea hopper.
I think i see you in every Kiseki thread ever.
Kondo said that Kiseki plot is 50% done with Steel 3, maybe we'll see Calvard quite soon.
that actually wasn't me but thanks
such as?
>the latter half was like running through tar with the amount of random battles there were.
I remember the part where you're in some kind of tornado or black hole moving very slowly and getting encounters every five seconds making for really frustrating exploration, it's the one thing that stops me from replaying it. Is the Legends version really much better in regards to this?
>I played this game when I was 9 and am reminded of how simple life was back then every time I play it
Yeah fuck off faggot if you want a Skies of Arcadia thread start a Skies of Arcadia thread, you come off as a retarded prick by calling something this mediocre the pinnacle of a genre.
If i wanted to play the trails game which one should i start with? I have a vita, psp and i have heard there are some games on pc too
They've already fucked themselves hard with Sen 1 and 2. Well, maybe 1 not so much since even with all the terrible writing pitfalls it steered itself into it was still setting up something interesting, it's really 2 that fucked everything up for the arc. I really don't trust anyone who was part of the writing team for the Sen arc to actually tie up a story properly.
Are you retarded? In older JRPGs high encounter rates are a legitimate issue leading to extreme tedium, especially in games like SoA or the first two Persona games with slow ass combat.
>retarded, straight abhorrent encounter rates killing all the joy of exploration and overworld navigation
>extremely limited combat system that feels like a worse Grandia, with gamebreaking abilities that allow you to protect from all incoming damage, both physical and magical
>ship combat is an uninteresting slog despite the presentation, too easy with animations that take too fucking long to execute
I honestly consider LoD, SoA and Lunar the holy trinity of grossly overrated nostalgiafaggot JRPGs.
Start with Trails in the Sky First Chapter. Then Second Chapter. These two are two parts of a single story. Then play Trails in the Sky the 3rd. This is sort of an epilogue to the Sky arc (Liberl arc) that sets up the next parts. Next comes the Crossbell arc, consisting of Zero and Ao. Zero has a usable but kind of shitty fan translation out for the PSP version. Ao is not available in English in any form right now. After the Crossbell arc comes the Erebonia arc, currently consisting of Cold Steel 1 and 2 and the upcoming 3. Available on Vita and PS3 right now but coming to Steam with extra (English only) VA soon. The Erebonia arc can be played without having played the Crossbell arc as the games take place during the same time in different in-universe countries, but certain major events from Crossbell are spoiled in the Erebonia games.
Play the PC version for all of Trails in the Sky for the best experience. The PSP versions of First Chapter and Second Chapter are okay if you want portability that bad but the PC version is probably better overall. Trails of Cold Steel 1 is coming out on Steam soon but 2 might be a ways off so you could play both of those on Vita or skip them because they're terrible in every way but combat compared to previous games in the series.

Ok thanks. I'll check the pc versions of FC and SC
