They're doing an ARG called Waking Titan to announce a new big content update. One of the biggest things said to be coming MIGHT be either a new race or something to with portals and multiplayer.

It's speculation at the moment, though we know for certain it's definitely a 1.3 update for NMS

It doesn't have shit to do with inflated expectations user. There are E3 videos showing interactions between animals and other shit that in no way shape or form made it into the game. This wasn't hype's fault, this was the devs dreaming big and cooking up the bullshot version of a trailer and then not being able to execute and not coming clean about it.

I maintain that if NMS was released as it is NOW (post pathfinder) for like £15 or something I'd be totally okay with it. Neat little game, just poorly realised/marketed.

This game could so easily be good if they had any idea what actually made something like this fun.

The point of exploration is to discover shit, if every single planet is the same shit then what's the point. What's the point in extensive cave systems with nothing in them, not even unique resources? Where's the random technology to discover with bizarre effects? Where's the abandoned cities? Where's the unique environmental hazards like the sand worm they showed? Where's the gigantic craters, rivers, and volcanoes?

Setting up base on a planet that gets flooded every other day, gets hit by meteorite strikes often, or is prone to volcanic explosions would actually be fun and an interesting challenge.

I would actually have some faith in the updates fixing shit if they seemed to have any of this in mind.

It's not even a good indie game right now, and definitely not close to the AAA title they billed it as.

even for small scope and small team NMS is BAD. The core gameplay loop is absolute shit, there's even less to do than Minecraft and the inventory and UI design is genuinely among the worst I've ever seen.
