I love Fallout New Vegas but I want you to tell me everything thats wrong with it.

The early game railroad from Goodsprings all the way to Novac gets very old if you like doing specific build/ending runs
It looks like garbage
>bullet sponge enemies, mods to fix this though
>scale of large battles and the strip is fucked because of engine limitations
>not enough quests that let you be a certain profession, ie courier, bounty hunter, caravan guard, etc
>not enough quests for each smaller faction to make you feel like youre really a part of them (what if i want to do more work for the brotherhood? or the omertas? really feel like i joined up?)
>honest hearts had shitty quests
>lonesome road was kind of underwhelming, not enough side stuff to explore
and easily the biggest and most tragic
>all the cut content, specifically all legion areas and the legion being underdone in general
still my favorite game of all time though
Here you go
So don't follow the railroad.
The janky, archaic piece of shit engine.
Oh, and the fact that it's not Fallout Van Buren. Was kind of a nice effort, still.
The blandest map ever, if you took 90% of the buildings and rubble out of 3 and didn't replace it with anything that's what you end up with, the map's defining features such as the strip and the dam are incredibly underwhelming and subsequently underutilized.
Why is Boone wearing a wig the courier?
You can get a stealth boy in Goodsprings (2 if you kill Cobb) and just sneak past the Deathclaws to get to Vegas.
shit graphics, shit fps and crashes all the damn time
otherwise gud gaem
Stop playing the ps3 version.
There wasn't enough of it sadly
sadly talking about PC version
Yeah or go through cazador fucking canyon
The combat is terrible. (though obsidian obviously couldn't do much to improve it)
The guns don't shoot like you expect them to. It's hard to describe, but it's like the gun either wants you to shoot once or full auto. If you try to do short bursts then you get dropped inputs and shit.
Grenades have to be switched to and bounce like crazy making them unpredictable and useless.
People love to shit on FO4, but the combat in that game is basically perfect. Probably because they brought in a separate fps team to do the combat this time.
pic unrelated, only new vegas picture I had
get a better computer than faggaboy litteralley dosent crash for me
Oh, and the movement system was pretty clunky too. Like there was input lag for starting and stopping.
>FO4, but the combat in that game is basically perfect.
HOLY FUCKING GAY litteralley never seen some1 so udderly fucking wrong fagout 4 has fucking ZERO redeening factor's you cuckdriver.
You still get bullet sponges in FO4
even my old PC meets the recommended requirements
Deal with it, bethesda's engine is shit.
>posting this retard's wall of text
I was very unhappy with the final story line involving Ulysses. It feels very weird to have something cut from the main game, all these bread crumbs in the DLC, and then when you finally reach the guy... Uh... He... ???
New vegas runs fine m8 the problem is yours.
Literally all you said can be fixed with mods
I installed a mod to make headshots do a lot more damage so that doesn't bother me at all. Makes damage sponges much less spongy by putting more emphasis on accuracy.
>New vegas runs fine m8
It has noticeable drops on a 1070. Fuck off.
I'm not going to say the game is flawless, but I really hate it when people try to brute force what they think the game should let them do and then throws their hands up when they're wrong.
Todd please, we know you're in this thread.
fallout 4s combat is just as bad if not worse. every gun feels like plastic, shoots like plastic, there are no weapons, everything is a bullet sponge, and no enemies feel or act differently. new vegas' combat is not great but the guns are good, specifically how they feel and sound. bullet sponge enemies and bad ai can be fixed with mods, thank christ
>nvidia
Found the problem. Also if you see an RX580 in stock hit me up.
I tried fixing those things with mods, but the only one I could find a fix for was having a grenade hotkey. The others seem to be hardcoded into the engine. I was really surprised I couldn't find a fix for grenade bounciness. Expected that one to be an easy fix, but I never found it.
Closest I found was a mod that made grenades heavier so they wouldn't bounce as much, but it also made them throw much less further. Like maximum throw distance was 5 feet away.
Todd hates NV though
Nice try, but they pretend NV doesn't exist.
>engine limitations
>shit engine.
>People love to shit on FO4, but the combat in that game is basically perfect.
None of the personality that 3 had, mr house has to be one of the least intelligent "smart" people ever written, game needed 3 loading screens for the vegas strip, was an unfinished buggy mess, lots of "quests" were just boring and uninteresting, lots of content but not a lot of actual substance, all of the factions were a 13 year olds idea of edgy, protagonists character motivations are non existent , the setting was extremely bland and boring (somehow more than 3) and other than a few decent side quests the game is just overall quite boring. Needs way too many mods to be decent
The engine still belongs to Bethesda, and its shit.
>Dandy-cowboy dude
Baby, Benny was anything but. Come on now.
>People keep telling me the game railroads you to novac
>That feel when im some kind of genious because i run straight to vegas through deathclaw infested areas to get implants at lvl 1.
The graphics, especially of the humans, are horrible.
The combat is pretty bad.
Karma system makes no sense.
There's a lack of things that should be there - like vehicles.
A lack of larger scale battles (perhaps it could be included in "combat"?)
A lack of serious and relevant mega threats to test your abilities. There's that boatfly in the DLC, but it doesn't fit in the story and it's silly.
I would like better/more companions and more decent romance, too.
It's overrated as fuck. Compared to Fallout 3 and retroactively Fallout 4 it's amazing but on its own it's mediocre at best. Despite all the fixes it makes it's still riddled with problems. The karma system is retarded and should have been removed entirely like in Fallout 4, the faction system is almost as bad but seems to get nothing but praise for whatever reason, the game is a buggy mess, the story is predictable outside of the DLC, a lot of the environments are very samey, etc.
It's a good fun game but just like Fallout 3 it needs mods.
"Mods can fix it!" In a discussion like this is fucking retarded. We're talking about the vanilla game that the developers themselves released.
THAT FUCKING BUG THAT MAKES THE LEGION NEVER ATTACK ME EVEN THOUGH I'M VILIFIED
>I dropped the game after 6 restarts.
>No, I did not get the legion quest thingy that makes them not attack you.
>gameplay is medicore and enemies get bulletspongey. Not like 4, where enemies are genuinely fun to fight, and the weapons are genuinely fun to use. The engine is terrible and everything is janky as fuck. Movement is weird and jittery, and guns never feel right.
>Crafting is a total clusterfuck and really not very useful. Scavenging for parts is tedious and awkward. The crafting menu is covered in an unreasonably amount of stuff you cant craft yet, and most of that stuff is worthless, serving only to obscure the stuff you actually can build
>the character progression is pretty bland. Perks are boring and uninteresting and rarely feel useful. You max out all your important stats fairly early and have to spend the rest of the time levelling shit you don't care about. S.P.E.C.I.A.L means very little.
>The strip is underwhelming and there's surprisingly little to actually do there. Most of the towns are just bland with little identity.
>a lot of areas are visually very dark, dull, and tiring to navigate. Outer vegas at night especially. They could have tried to make certain parts of the mojave visually distinct to other parts. Skyrim has areas of snowy mountains, and areas of thick pine forests, and areas of autumnel aspen woods, and marshes and grasslands. The mojave is just mojave.
>"Mods can fix it!"
This shit tier mentality is THE reason Bethesda manages to release the most broken pieces of shit games and get away with it.
>Weapon mods are way too rare and expensive, and are just generally never worth it.
>the game has no way to really orchestrate whether enemies are too high level for you or not. Is level 50 deathclaw hunting time? Level 20? I don't know. I distinctly remember approaching a man outside a mine who told me something like
"woah hold on, there are death claws here! Let me take a look at you..." *pauses* "I reckon you can handle yourself out there", which I took to mean the game telling me I was high enough level to fight deathclaws, and that if I was a lower level then he would have told me to fuck off. I was not. Maybe some way of just telling the player if their power level is high enough for certain encounters would have made it a lot easier, like a level number in an mmo but more subtle.
>honest hearts was big and empty, and scorpions just aren't fun to fight against. Lonesome road was a bit linear and got boring after a while. Old world blues was the opposite and was honestly a bit overwhelming with the amount of stuff you could do there. Personally I liked dead money the most, as it felt the most like an actual game. The levels were tightly designed to be tense and interesting and you weren't weighed down by a billion guns and outfits that you found in the mojave Although you were still weighed down by something else entirely
>Having to slaughter the brotherhood felt like a bit of a dick move
>We didn't get nearly enough legion stuff, but I understand they had to cut content.
>The guns don't shoot like you expect them to. It's hard to describe, but it's like the gun either wants you to shoot once or full auto. If you try to do short bursts then you get dropped inputs and shit.
They were -so- janky.
>but the guns are good, specifically how they feel and sound
literally the opposite of truth
were you trying to make a point in your post?
all you did was quote people saying NV engine is garbage but then proceed to post a video of 4's engine
Why do people say the writing is good in NV? If they mean it's better than other Fallout games then maybe I can agree but that sure as hell doesn't mean it's good.
It's New Vegas in FO4's engine.
any good gameplay improvement mods?
project nevada doesnt look interesting and other mods I looked at were just "you have to drink from toilets more often" but thats also not very engaging for me
Obsidian employees unironically sit on Sup Forums in their spare time and shill their games. Im not even kidding you.
It's unfinished and Obsidian had to use Bethesda's shitty abortion of an engine and assets.
...
Okay? And? How does that discredit people calling NV's engine shit?
Fuck, you caught me
>Bethesda's shit engine
>Some of it feels unfinished
>No sequel
What games do you consider with good writing, user?
When did anyone claim is was doing that?
None of that is what I was talking about. I mean their base system for moving, shooting, and throwing grenades is perfect. It's exactly how I want an fps to behave. The one in new vegas is clunky and terrible.
>>Having to slaughter the brotherhood felt like a bit of a dick move
>when they fit you with a nice bomb collar when you first meet them
nah fuck em
>kill all Legion goons in Nipton
>they somehow still know about it and my reputation with them drops
???
It should have worked like Skyrim's bounty system, the idea that they have scouts or whatever constantly watching me wherever I am reporting on all of my actions is lazy as fuck. Same for the other factions.
I absolutely agree and Fallout 4's gameplay is it's best aspect.
It wasn't finished. Needed more stuff fleshed out, etc.
Mr. House isn't even supposed to be "smart", he's a lucky motherfucker but that's it.
So what was the point in quoting anons criticizing NV's engine?
Boone is fucking jacked in that picture.
Showing them that the game is being remade in a different engine.
say that to my face todd, see what happens
He made some good points but it was clear he was just an annoying little bitch from reddit or somewhere who refused to enjoy the game and demanded a really high level of choice (WAY higher than fallout 3, by the way) while failing to see the obvious point of the main story which is that all the roads lead somewhere bad.
Don't tell my boss, I'm supposed to be working
Uses Gamebryo because of Bethesda demands.
Less polish and dev time than it deserves due to Bethesda interference.
Obsidian isn't getting any fallout (no pun intended) payments from Bethesda
It's been mentioned a lot already but the karma system is so dumb it's mind-numbing. The fact that they were in a position to make improvements on the way Fallout 3 did things but they left the karma system alone makes me wonder if they were contractually obligated to keep it the same.
>kill everyone in a 30 mile radius
>go indoors
>steal an empty soda bottle
>angry karma god deducts 5 good boy points
Do you know if the draw distance will be improved? Because this mountains showing out of nowhere are very annoying.
You could always go through Primm Pass to sidestep everything to Novac immediately
Really tho, you can just carefully walk around.
the (no LOD) in the title is referring to that.
They have to make low detail versions of everything first.
Gamebryo.
Bethesda involvement.
Too much tell and not enough show. Hard to immerse myself to the idea that Freeside is this big settlement that needs help when there's like 2 or 3 junkies wandering about. There's more doctors than residents. There were more guards at Kimball's speech than viewers. All the endings just tell you what happen and though there's a lot of endings that intertwine with other things, you only hear about them and never see them.
>your dad, voiced by Liam Neeson,
Might be autism but that little addition irritates me, almost like he adds that Neeson in because he's a big name and adds credit to the game or something?
Actually that paragraph and the one that follow it are both fucked, giving F3 a clear synopsis and giving NV a quick "You do this because.... uhhh.... reason???" is just blatant fuckery
I like how he says "You do quests by the numbers, and gord-help-you if you try and wander off the beaten path" like F3 doesnt do the same shit and worse
Gamebryo doesnm't support animations.
Animations feel static.
(Strafe) running animation looks like you're sliding forward, which is jarring as fuck.
It's the same shit as when they had Patrick Stewart voice the king in Oblivion.
>Took them 5 years to implement volumetric lighting
Gamebryo engine more like Gayembryo engine :^)
And Sean Bean was Martin
not only that, the lighting is broken af.
...
>>not enough quests that let you be a certain profession, ie courier, bounty hunter, caravan guard, etc
I agree with the rest, but I think this one is kind of a nitpick.
(you)
you suck, fag
>"my opposition is silly and ugly!!!" comic
wew boy
I like how the person did this to mock other people, and even in his own comic, he is the one that seems to be an autistic retarded.
kek I bet you set aside like 2 hours to make this shitty ms paint comic you stupid fag
I don't think this guys arguments are very valid. His entire argument is, "If I find an item before I activate the quest, it's worthless and doesn't lead me to the quest!" I don't think this even happened in Fallout 3. So, what's the point?
i got it yesterday, literally for 3 bucks on steam
it's my first fallout and i like it a lot. it seems like a game where you have true freedom to just fuck around in and do things the way you want to and let's be honest, recent open world games don't really do that.
...
Malcolm Mcdowell is president.
This some A list actors the game gotta be good.
The notion that you have to follow a relatively restrained path for at least a few hours of gameplay compared to the prequel just turned loads of normies off it. They understood what they wanted from the only Fallout game they played, and didn't like it when this game didn't follow the "30 minute intro and then complete freedom of movement" formula that TES 3,4 and F3 went by. That is everything behind that complaint - other than those that replayed the game dozens of times and are sick of doing "that bit" again.
>I try looting stuff I LOSE KARMA
Why is he bitching about karma in NV?
Fallout 3 made it one of its central mechanics and the whole good guys vs bad guys dogshit was of the worse part of the game
Either works really. I can get to Vegas without leveling and without crossing Deathclaws or Cazadors. Basically you sprint all the way to Novac and then proceed north carefully avoiding the scripted raider fights which are tough on a level 1.
(you)
