I'm playing it for two days and just can't see why it got so much praise. Combat is terrible and clunky. Guy moves like a bag of potatoes with legs. Horse is bugged as fuck.
Some of the quests are funny but most are absolutely generic crap you see in average MMO. And every quest is solved by holding RMB and following red shit.
I mean, it's not a terrible game and I'll probably finish it. But 10/10 and game of the year everywhere? Fucking seriously?
Once I hit Novigrad the quests became interesting enough to have me firmly hooked all the way through the end of the game. A lot of the praise comes down to the breadth of the world you explore and how 'alive' it ends up feeling as you travel through the different kingdoms
Samuel Howard
I agree OP. 7/10 at best. If you're gonna finish it, watch out for glitches
The last straw for me and what made me stop playing all together was when I had gotten back from Skellige with the Master Armor side quest thing after killing the ice troll. Game wanted me to go kill an Archvile Griffin 6 levels higher than me. I did a few times and span Quen while taking to light attacks and dodging. About to kill it when it flies off. I follow yet the quest marker still shows the nest. I go back and the game spawns another, full healthed Griffin.
Spent half an hour researching of I did anything wrong. Nope, just another glitch. Uninstalled and deleted with no desire to ever return.
Yen is best girl through
Grayson Reyes
It's literally the best single player game of all time
Adrian Bell
I have the same sentiment. Bought it on the steam sale then dropped it after 20 hours only to pick it up again earlier this week. Can't play it more than an hour or two but I am starting to like it more as I level up.
Definitely a pretty good game production wise and content quality but I think all the gotyay stuff stemmed from bandwagoning and marketing. This game isn't a 10/10 based solely on your complaints about movement and combat and i completely agree with them.
I also don't like playing as Ciri. The sudden story jump is annoying and I honestly think cutscenes would have been better since to my 30-hour-in knowledge you don't actually gain anything other than story progress for beating them.
Liam Taylor
*I died a few times and learned to spam Quen

Suikoden II was so much better if you want a good story with good characters.
Jack Russell
>I also don't like playing as Ciri. They had to give you Ciri sections to keep it more like the books. Her constantly getting in and out of trouble with randoms was a big part of the books.
Ryan Russell
Nobody fucking cares about the books. It could be influenced by Nina Hartley's autobiography for all I care, it still wouldn't change the fact that Ciri is as s to play as
Aaron Davis
The quests were my main problem with the game, made even worse by the way gear works. Due to the harsh level limitations on gear it's pretty much impossible for any single piece of equipment to actually be cool and interesting. Anything strong you find is just going to be above your level, and once you can equip it it'll just be average among all the other shit you find. It's insanely retarded and makes exploration feel like the least worthwhile thing in the game.
Jace Cooper
>I follow yet the quest marker still shows the nest. I go back and the game spawns another, full healthed Griffin. I've played the game start to finish four times, I've never seen that.. you are unlucky user. Give the game another try
Brayden Peterson
>Suikoden II was so much better if you want a good story with good characters.
I love Suikoden 2, but you are full of shit my man.
Leo Sanders
>Suikoden 2 who?
Jeremiah Johnson
>Yen is best girl through I see you're a man of taste
John Sullivan
the game could use an overhaul, sure, but i think the armor (witcher sets especially) looks pretty badass. You CAN equip normal armor, but the best one is witcher gear. If you are not a min-maxer stay away from every other piece of armor
Dylan Sullivan
I couldn't look for clues on the ground anymore after the 100th time and stopped playing when I realized this is what this game was all about.
The story + characters didn't interest me. I couldn't remember anything the characters were saying because they had nothing captivating to say.
The dialogue choices didn't feel like they mattered at all and they didn't offer any interesting outcome.
You don't even need to craft potions or bombs because everything can die just by your sword. If you do use them, it makes battles even more easier than what they already are, especially when you can meditate after every battle to replenish them.
I don't understand either why this game was Game of the Year in 2016. I guess it pandered perfectly to casuals who didn't care about awful repetition in the game's mechanics.
Hudson Cox
Its probably that one where you have to bomb the nest to get it out of hiding
If you take too long it respawns outside

James Edwards
There's no depth to it.
Hunter Johnson
Yeah, it really feels like an ultra casual RPG game.
Juan Murphy
play on death's march, and you will notice you will need a potion or two Besides, what was you 2015 GOTY?
Aiden Parker
yeah i agree. i played it recently, got bored about a third in and got rid of it.
it's pretty good, but all the high praise probably put up my expectations so high that it sort of disappointed me. i got ff15 just a couple days ago, i like it a lot more.
Matthew Jackson
>. i got ff15 just a couple days ago, i like it a lot more.
William Cooper
It's not-so-common knowledge that Witcher 3 is THE penultimate shit taste filter. It makes people who usually play shit games feel badass that they're playing an "oldschool" game with deep quests.
When say they play Witcher 3 they can feel patrician when actually people who played more games than Skyrim know that it brings NOTHING new on the table and is just mediocrity through and through. Like many other anons I played it to see what the fuss is about and as those other anons I realized it's bland as fuck and a prime example of overrated. There's a reason why it's so 50/50 on Sup Forums and that's because all the shit taste faggots have enough backup to not feel shame while there's a good portion who realize how average it is
Justin Moore
holy shit people like this exist people that cant accept the witcher 3 is the best game ever made
name 1 game better than the witcher 3, you cant
Dylan Mitchell
>Is this the most overrated game of all time? No, you're just a pleb.
Josiah Foster
Regardless of the opinion I have of the game, I will applaud CDPR for supporting the game after launch. They addressed issues people were having and weren't assholes about DLC.
Jason Cruz
It has good writing (that peaks at the Baron, though) but horrible gamepaly. I loved the first dlc because of this, and hated the second.
Owen Reyes
There's depth to the writing. Gameplay has no depth, but that's true of any game that isn't a simulation.
Christopher Lopez
There are three levels to gaming. The first normalfag level where you like basically anything. Normalfag likes Call of Duty or FIFA.
The autistic sperg who'll nitpick and try to "objectively" dissect every single games into its flaws, looking for the game with least wrong with it. This person will like basically nothing because some other sperg will destroy his favorite game if he announces it to the world. This is you.
Then there are men with real taste who look for systems and design choices that have meaning and soul in them. It doesn't matter if the game is heavily flawed. Favorite games may be EYE or even Witcher 3 even though this gamer realizes its Assassins Creed inspired decision and semi-Dark Souls-y combat aren't very good.
Dylan Campbell
it's like a quirky, half-serious japanese take on the western aaa rpg formula. it's not really open world, just sort of, more linear than anything actually, but they added enough strange and interesting elements of their own to keep me invested. the dialogue is so damn awkward in my ears, it can only stem from a half-assed translation.
either way it's pretty good. it has major flaws, but i guess i play so few japanese games (yakuza 0 being the only other one in recent times) that it feels fresh as a whole to me.
Nicholas Baker
Story and world are pretty amazing, production values are god tier
But man, the gameplay is really hard for me to get into. The combat is too fast paced and active to be really strategic, but it's also too slow and clunky to be fun, so it's this awkward action/RPG hybrid. There is just no enjoyment to be wrung from it.
Also, I really hate the inventory system, I feel like I'm spending way too much time fumbling around in all the different menus, Weapon/armor durability is also totally shit and it's never fun in any game, and it's even more of a chore in this one, and your stuff seems to degenerate pretty quickly
Easton Kelly
The thing is, I liked the aspect of finding the monsters' weaknesses and using the right potions against them. However, when you're a few levels above the enemies you're fighting, buffing yourself before a battle becomes obsolete. I made the mistake (?) of completing all the subquests before tackling the main quest. I ended up being 20 levels above everything I was fighting and the challenge was gone.
I had more fun with MGSV even if I really hated the ending and the lack of bosses.
Benjamin Robinson
Average hentai game has more depth to the gameplay than W3.
Tyler Cook
nigga my favourite game is fuckign Earthbound. It can't get more flawed than that and I can see why people may call it overrated.
Witcherfags are just full on delusional, saying it's the best game even though it does not a single aspect great. It's not bad, it's not terrible. It's just .. eh. I really wanted to like it since it had some darker moments and I'm a sucker for that but as others I just slowly realized that it doesn't get better.
I genuinely want to know from (You) what you liked about Witcher 3. Keep in mind that story and world was done by the book, not the game. Witcher 3 is basically a pseudo-interactive directed experience of the book.
Josiah Rodriguez
The thing is it is just a decent game but got straight 10/10 because it is the ultimate normie bait. Here's the thing, the normies didn't play past the 2nd area. They got their 5 hours of fun out of the game and left it a 10/10.
Brayden Cox
>I made the mistake (?) of completing all the subquests before tackling the main quest. I ended up being 20 levels above everything I was fighting and the challenge was gone. Doesn't help that you get massive amounts of XP doing the main quest, even if it's just walking around town with Triss.
I felt forced to ignore the sidequests at some point because I was constantly overleveled thanks to the main quest.
Julian Baker
I'm starting to think it got 10/10 simply because there was no competition.
Before the wave of good nip games we have now there was pretty much nothing for few years. And when reviewers are forced to give shit games at least 8 because of publishers something like witcher ends up with 10/10.
Gabriel Cook
>all this comments for controls
Niggers really? Parry and counterattack if it's a human, barrel rolls if it's a monster. Seriously eve in death march you can easily manage, provided you don't sperg out reacting randomly.
Gabriel Allen
>even though it does not a single aspect great It has the best designed world ever in a 3D video game. It has best dialogue of any fully voice acted open world RPG. It has great characters. Bloody Baron is arguably top ten video game stories ever. Hearts of Stone is definitely top five best video game stories ever material. Soundtrack is one of the best this whole decade. It's a visual marvel.
Slavic motifs, visuals and world design weave something that's greater than a sum of its parts. I've spent hours just riding around with hud disabled, contemplating on books about Slavic paganism I've been reading.
Oh, and quests are best in an open world game since Morrowind. Oblivion a shit and New Vegas doesn't come close because Gamebyro is too terrible to take seriously.
Justin Campbell
You barely ever fight one enemy. Usually it's a retarded rolling around mess with few monsters running around like idiots.
Landon Cox
>Oh, and quests are best in an open world game since Morrowind
>go to point A and use spider senses >follow red trails to point B >fight something
Jackson Reyes
This is bait.
Dylan Robinson
You also have secondary weapons, you can firebomb multiple enemies for example. You do have the means of crowd control, and signs are invaluable, axii and igni (especially w armor melting perk) being the best
Tyler Lee
>t-this is bait
Jayden Kelly
Every quest in every game ever is >go from A to B at its core.
What makes quests in an open world game good is the context in the wider world, use of gameplay mechanics (not the quality of gameplay mechanics), writing, dialogue, variety, choices, roleplaying possibilities, consistent quality and consequences. Witcher 3 passes all of these with flying colors.
Jacob Carter
it is still good. just because it's shilled on doesnt mean it isnt
Lucas Campbell
well said
Gavin Jenkins
>It has best dialogue of any fully voice acted open world RPG. >It has great characters. >Bloody Baron is arguably top ten video game stories ever. >Hearts of Stone is definitely top five best video game stories ever material. Those are done by the book as I previously said
>It has the best designed world ever in a 3D video game. I hate to bring it into this discussion and compare it but BotW is a recent example that's better unless you mean design as in aesthetics which it would lose straight up since it's just ye olde fantasy world
>Soundtrack is one of the best this whole decade. There was a soundtrack?
>It's a visual marvel. Graffix
>Slavic motifs, visuals and world design weave something that's greater than a sum of its parts. If that'S what you're interested in those stuff I can see why you like it, however not everyone is into that so saying it's the BEST EVER just makes you look stupid
Logan Kelly
Options menu, toggle to the alternative movement scheme so he doesn't feel like a fraight train.
Adam James
That's not the last of us or bloodborne try harder op
Angel Nelson
>I'm starting to think it got 10/10 simply because there was no competition. that's really exactly what it was 2015 was a garbage year, and this "decent" game was there to take the reigns as the winner
droughts suck
Nolan Price
Sigh
>It's popular so I hate it meme
I think it got the high rating because as a package, it executes on several things very well. Graphics is top tier, soundtrack is top tier, combat may be lacking if you're expecting something like Nioh but it can be quite engaging and interesting if you let it, characters are well written and it does a really good job off immersing you in a world. No other games in 2015 did as good of a job of getting you immersed or engaged.
Alexander Martinez
>Those are done by the book Get a load of this faggot. Nobody cares about some shitty Polish books.
>If that'S what you're interested in those stuff I can see why you like it We're discussing opinions here. We're not official critics and if you can't handle discussion of a game without calling someone liking it a lot more, reddit, then you're the autistic fuck mentioned in the post earlier.
Anthony Jackson
Switch movement to Alternative in options. Thank me later.
Carter Wood
>Those are done by the book as I previously said wrong, Witcher games are only a continuation of story told in the books, it's all completely new apart from the main characters not that user btw but your arguments suck shit
Camden Wood
>Is this the most overrated game of all time? No, that would be The Last of Us.
Colton Perry
Something like that happening in a game can be fucking annoying and make you stop playing for a few days but how assblasted do you have to be to uninstall the game over that? Loving Every Laugh
Chase King
Redditors keep regurgitating this but it's still subpar.
Protip: Death March and Alternative Movement are still unacceptable.
Aaron Gonzalez
I'd say Oot/BOTW/ff7
Caleb Jackson
Don't you ever share your opinions to me again boy.
Michael Russell
>no other competition
>Bloodborne >Rocket League >Fallout 4 >MGSV >all in one fucking year >three games of these have major hype from established devs >no competition
Ryan Rogers
Blazblue > Guilty Gear
Camden Cox
>competition
Ryan Scott
Because by that point the combat had become piss easy, I lost any interest in exploration, the dialogue was obnoxiously long and dry to where I skipped more lines than in any other video game, and all around glitches like pic related.
Cleared some space off my drive for literally anything else
>why did you throw out that old, stale pizza? why not eat it for later -You

>Is this the most overrated game of all time? No, you probably say that about every other game you play though. People enjoyed it, it won awards and shit, like 2 years ago. Move on faggot.

Thoughts on bishounen Geralt?
Kayden Murphy
List of legitamate gameplay criticisms:
>Inventory system makes using potions/oils a chore, and breaks immersion >All equipment other than Witcher gear are largely irrelevant >level scaled loot (but not level scaled enemies) >Movement system is not smooth, can be difficult to make Geralt move in a desired direction at times
Xavier Smith
Yes?
Do you think people gave a fuck about The Witcher before TW3?
CDPR wasn't a well known dev, TW3 literally put them on the map.
Joseph Wright
>this thread >overwatch exists
Jayden Murphy
Does this game have a japanese dub?
Because playing as bishonen Geralt with a jap dub would be hilarious.
Jason Ramirez
>not knowing wicher 1 and 2 that's why they did good, they were already well known
Jack Rivera
It does.
Leo Price
>Nobody cares about some shitty Polish books.
CDPR copy-pasted everything everything from the books.
Noah Bennett
>TW1 >Well known >TW2 >Well known
Granted TW2 did better than the previous game, but it hardly could be considered a blockbuster.
Landon Brown
TW2 got a lot of attention in its days. Not nearly as much as TW3, but it definitely didn't go under the radar.
Christian Barnes
yes
Hudson Butler
I know this sounds casual, but why not just make the combat like a beat em up? I mean it's clear the appeal of the game is in the story and environments, and experience them, but the combat is fucking boring, so why not make it lighter and more action-y? RPG purists may balk but I think a lot of the RPG elements actually hurt this game and get in the way of what's really enjoyable
Dominic Flores
How do you activate it?
Camden Stewart
Nobody called it game of the year though, which is what's I'm saying.
TW3 got by on it's own merit, not brand recognition.
Cameron Ramirez
Velen didn't deserve to have the amount of content that it did.
Skellige didn't have enough content in it for being such a good looking zone
Daniel Fisher
Yea and even to this day people dont realize that PCMR is a quote from yahtzee video on witcher 1.
Isaac Collins
They literally had to cut half of Skellige's content because of dev troubles.
I'm honestly amazed the game came out as good as it did.
Joseph Walker
In your Steam games library right click the name of the game and click "Properties" and then select the Language tab.
Choose Japanese as your language.
This will initiate the download of the Japanese language pack.
Then when you launch the game open the options menu and you will be able to switch the language for the audio to Japanese.
Jason Miller
Thanks man.
Benjamin Wilson
but i'm sure all those copied and pasted question marks were totally fine
TW2 was released on the same year as Skyrim, it was completely overshadowed in every aspect. CDPR was a mid tier or less dev before TW3
Brayden Turner
git gud faggot
the game is ez mode even on deathmarch if you know how to scale your character in the slightest
Camden Allen
At least a thread that's not filled with retards defending this boring piece of shit I played it until I got bored of the shit ass combat, and yes, Geralt moves like he has a 2 second delay window for some fucking reason, and it's infuriating
