Pyre thread

Pyre thread

If you are over 25 years old and a reader you must play this game!

Those babble voices they do are frequent, but they only have so many sound bites each. And if you look in the credits its all in house guys like the devs, darren korb, and one or two accounts of logan cunningham.

They didn't pay anyone they weren't already paying for the babbling. The only ones who might have been paid specifically extra is Logan and possible Darren and they total to like 3 members of the cast total.

Regarding last poster in the last thread -

Supergiant is 12 people, and previous interviews have indicated they mostly maintain that number and don't bring in any contractors. Their QA, sound work, artist, etc are all in-house.

Assuming PC sales at 60,000 on steam, which is likely not quite accurate but just for fun, that's 1.2 million dollars, barring preorder discounts. With steam's 30% cut, they get $840,000.

Obviously this isn't quite accurate since regional pricing, etc, etc, but this also doesn't even factor in PS4 sales, or potentially more than that 60k.

I think it's safe to say the game has, between steam and PS4, sold over a million dollars worth of profits already, which split between twelve people (likely not an even split, but still) is plenty for one week

yeah i was gonna say, all their talent is in-house so it likely wasn't much extra cost. But it did still have a lot of VA from Cunningham

While there's a good bit of variety in his voice acting as the voice in pyre I don't think it can compare to Bastion or Transistors situation of the narrator following you at all times ON TOP of potential variations in the narration. (Not to mention that Transistor also had the 4 members of the Camarata voiced as well (to varying degrees).

He's only in The Rites, and he only speaks up when something happens really.

Yeah but Pyre is also 3x longer than either of those games and also he voice acts basically every rite with unique lines. On top of that, he talks to you in your dreams and has other dialogue on top of it.

I'm just saying I'm pretty sure he's got a lot more lines than either other game since Pyre's 10-15 hours and he consistently talks through most of it.

...

In that case, let's play a little game. How many people work at Supergiant Games?

And how many copies do they need to sell taking into account the following:

- Operating Costs (Office, equipment etc...)
- Government Taxes
- Employee Salaries
- Marketing Costs (In this case, mostly convention appearances?)
- Steam's 30% cut/Sony's cut

Is there any reason to hold on to trade goods? I had been selling them but I just now noticed they show up in the wagon, so I was wondering if that meant anything.

i answered you here

as for costs, I don't know enough to say, but I imagine they already made up most of them and then some in profits by now. not to mention that they're still profiting off their last games. 4.5 million combined sales of Bastion and Transistor.

Let's assume, even generously, that it's only $5 of profit a sale to balance out all the discounts, etc. It was likely higher. That's STILL $22.5 million

Supergiant's doing fine

Lore questions/theories time!

[spoiler1. ]Is there any explanation of how Khaylmer ended up in Downside or are we just to take the implication that he was exiled by the people for being yet another tyrant?

Volfred seems to blame himself in some way about what happened to Oralech and Oralech is happy to blame him too. Could he be hiding something? The Fate's liberation seems to contradict his story about how Erisa died. Wouldn't Almer have died in the same way?[/spoiler]

I'm glad people are beginning to understand who best girl is.

No because the anointed allowed it, gave his freedom up, just like Oralech can for you. It fits.
Oralech didn't consent to Erisa trying to free herself. He wanted the freedom himself.

I don't think Volfred did anything wrong, he just has survivor's guilt and feels like Oralech got unfairly screwed

You spend significantly more time out of the rites than inside of the rites. There's only 3 dream sequences or so. He has about 3 variations for each line in the rites

The meat of Logan Cunninghams voice acting this time was probably in those opening shpeals he gave, since they'd vary based on location and team and that becomes more open after the first rite. And I feel like the handful of minute long speeches he has would be hard pressed to compare to the voicework of Rucks in Bastion. Or the combination of Logans VA work and the guy for Royce, Grant/Asher (I feel like maybe only one of them talked? I forget) and Sybil (admittedly heavily distorted and likely just an employee) in Transistor.

Also realistically I feel like if Supergiant wasn't selling as much Pyre as they anticipated they'd probably speak up over lying. Half of the games industry would jump to their defense square away.

But that isn't a picture of Bertrude?

I want to fuck the horned amazon

I said best, not worst.

Better pray the Reader allows her to stay with you then, Ignatius.

Yeah, but he has unique dialogue most of the second/third time you fight the same teams, too. And his dialogue changes entirely after Volfred starts playing in the rites.

I feel like you might be misremembering just how little Rucks/Transistor talk. They're vocal, but not much more than the Voice, and when they do talk, it's usually 1-2 lines. Voice speaks for a minute+ at once. I think Voice has way more unique dialogue.

I didn't send her home out of spite, I swear. She was the only one enlightened enough to go.

>You will never rub the magic ball and have a spirit take your cummies into the netherworld

>The part where Sandra begs you to leave but instead you stay and comfort her for a while
I can't believe I even considered any other girl.

Yeah but those are, at most, one minute speeches, all his lines in the rites are a couple of words at most, he has maybe one sentence at the end of games each time.
They also likely had Logan record parts of the speeches individually. Like maybe all the location introductions and triumverate introductions separated. And then edit them together.

Transistor I'd agree with. The Transistor talks more sparsely but they also had 3ish other VAs in the game.

Bastion I disagree with. That game literally had a problem where you couldn't play it too fast because Rucks would go on for paragraphs at a time and fall behind on the narration triggers. Rucks laid it on incredibly thick and is probably talking for over half of most of the games levels. (They also had logan sing in this one, which I have to imagine is extra)

>every time she begs you (desperation growing) to fuck off and stop asking her how she is feeling or constantly asking her how she is doing, as if you are wasting your time; you are not.

Next playthrough I'm going to do everything the same, except for maybe the order I send people, and then send myself at the end instead of Oralech. I don't care to leave myself, but she deserves to experience the republic in some way.

>Create an engine thats conducive to gorgeous 2D art and runs on damn near everything (Bastion was on Vita AND fucking GOOGLE CHROME for shit sake)
>Sony pays to have PS4 exclusivity on all their future games thus far

I want jodi to sexually assault me

I recorded my entire first playthrough

I am your webm god, and you are to pray to me if you want webms of anything (assuming I have it)

Good plays, you or the AI.

gimme a webm of you sucking my ass

Are you saying Supergiant is a Sony exlusive studio now?

pyre can run on a toaster though, is your pc that bad?

Man you know good plays aren't possible with this AI, unless you have Yslach on and are near the end of the game

Transistor and Pyre have been console exclusive to PS4 but still released on PC. Supergiant are full indie still. Sony just gives em a bit a dosh each game for the exclusivity.

I have it on PC but I wouldn't hate them in handheld formats.

The more people who can enjoy games the better imo.

Rukey shaving his mustache off

And dont you fucking tell me you let him keep it

>he literally lowered Rukey's self esteem on purpose

That's like telling Jodariel "your horns are ugly, cunt"

Nightwings destroying you during their first appearence.

I definitely saw a decent number in my playthrough but I also am not very good at the game so that probably helped.

Of course I did. The man helped save my life recently. He barely knows me yet values my opinion enough to ask about his appearance. AND was also clearly more looking for validation than an opinion.
The mustache also just happens to be a great look for him.

user... i beat the game without losing a single rite... and i didn't even restart any rites...

Here, couldn't add Oralech the first time because of the 2gb update and my shitty internet not letting me open the game for a screenshot.

Let Oralech win.
