I like Samurai Warriors more though.

DW5 and Samurai Warriors Chronicles are my favorite Musou games.
Xing Cai and Zhen Ji for DW

I haven't played any since 6 Empires, I wonder why they moved character creation from the main games (DW4), to the XL (DW5XL) to just Empires (DW6/7/8)

All DW games play the same but with slightly more content/better graphics so that's understandable. But 4 is the game that everyone grew up with.

Spirit of Sanada is the best DW game ever release
I went to play SW 4 and DW8 and I can't simple play them after playing Spirit of Sanada. The game is absolute 10/10 despite too many loading screens

They serve little purpose in the story and there's not much to do with them besides free mode.

I only play Musou games for the character creation, if Basara games had it I'd probably be playing them too.

Its true. 8 sort of fucked everyone else. Especially Jin. Sima Zhao had a whole arc and Yuanji was by his side but in 8 that gets tossed for edgy MWAHAHA Jia Chong who took Yuanjis place as Zhaos advisor.

7 had too many clones, but the story was great.
8 gameplay wise is easily the best in the series and story wise second best, but it's obvious it should've been one historical route for each faction because they cut corners for the sake of IF paths.

I love Hyrule Warriors, but I didn't like the others musou. I guess the theme of Dynasty Warrior doesn't appeal me, but I do love DW with another coat. Like Gundam, that shit was dope.

Quite a lot of characters had cloned moveset, like the Quiaos, Liu Bei and Lu Xun, Sun Quan and 5 other guys at reléase (Cao Cao, Sima Zhao, Xiahou Dun...).

That's why they introduced weapon switching in the first place.

Jin is basically Wei. Sima Yi's family gets rid of the Cao shit after Cao Pi dies and wrecks Shu and Wu. Its a new faction.

I only like the empires versions. CAC, weapon leveling, Army building, and map domination is more interesting to me than a story mode I have played countless times.

Hyrule Warriors did it better.

This. DW is pretty bad but I'm glad Hyrule Warriors salvaged the concept and made a cool game.

They could make it more dynamic, but going from base to base and making sure your army isn't getting routed is alright. Sure its monotonous but that's just Musou games.

I have only ever played Hyrule Warriors but I enjoyed it. What other musou games would you recommend?

I always go with Wei in the RoTK games, rolling with Cao Cao and company in RoTK 8 as we decimate Yuan Shao's force, my new officer leading a cavalry unit, was good times.

The Pirate Warrior games are a blast, even if you're not into One Piece. It really captures the essence of musou games and gives you a myriad of unique characters and movesets.

Gundam Musou isn't bad, 2, 3 and I think there was one more that was virtual release only.

I was in the same boat as you, and I played Dynasty Warriors 7 next and really enjoyed it.

I'm more of a fan of Samurai Warriors, but the musou genre in general is my kind of games.

Never understood the hate for these games. They add a bunch of content and its similar to the idea of diablo and killing hundreds of enemies on a screen at once
