Who is your favorite vidya gaem VA?
Who is your favorite vidya gaem VA?
Cassandra Morris
>Troy Baker
>Liam O'Brien
>Yuri Lowenthal
>Tara Strong
>Robin Atkin Downes
>Laura Bailey
>Nolan North
I am so fucking sick and tired of hearing the same VAs in every goddamn game
And the fucking directors who refuse to let them actually change their voices
It's literally Nepotism - The Profession
Rick Hunter
>It's literally Nepotism - The Profession
They're all related?
Who is this cat-man?
It's not nepotism, it's cronyism.
Notice how in almost every game Troy Baker is in, Laura Bailey is too.
>Tara Strong
Don't know why you're mad about Tara when she's been in a load of cartoons and animated series before being in games. She's a great VA.
Also David Hayter.
Ashley Johnson
I like James Arnold Taylor
He's a good chap, answers questions from his fans, has a youtube channel to show the actual work involved in being a VA and attends cons too.
Plus, he's got fantastic range. Some of the stuff he can do boggles the mind.
But that's exactly my point - they're in fucking EVERYthing
Cartoons, vidya, voice-doubles, commercials and all the rest
There's no opportunity for any fresh talent to come in
Honestly I'm amazed the Bastion narrator hasn't been in everything considering his voice is 90% of the reason the game did so well.
The problem is that they're so well-known, so they're bound to be first picks for games/cartoons/shows.
It's hard for fresh talent to come in, nowadays you can see VA's voice rolls on Youtube, like Kimhlin Tran did.
Sean Bean
I like Claudia Black's voice
>Who is your favorite vidya gaem VA?
Anyone who worked on the Legacy of Kain series
Damion Poitier
dont know if he is a VA besides for Payday 2
oh and Brian bloom, and dave fennoy
>Yuri Lowenthal
>bad
This is what V2 was for
I like Liam O'Brien, Ratchet's VA from the first game was cool as well. Miyuki Sawashiro is my favorite VA ever, though.
The guy who did Kyle Katarn. He sounds like Al from Deadwood.
Bruh Logan Cuningham blew me away with his performance being the voice in Pyre
Stephen Russell
Mamiko Noto
...
Evan Fletner
His VA in Guardian node II was pretty glorious
My lovely, lovely Laura.
he's like the male version of Natalie Dormer
mary elizabeth mcglynn
Grey DeLisle
She'd lowkey get it
the dude who voiced this fucker
also Dan Southworth
they guy who thinks it's 'okay' to bang or something, I forget his name.
Honestly I prefer my games without VA. But Simon Templeman or any of the LoK actors are great.
Jamieson Price's voice makes me moist
Tony Jay/thread
At least Troy Baker mixed it up for Ocelot in MGSV. Didn't sound like his generic voice too much.
Is Phil LaMarr the most talented VA alive?
yeah, he sounded like the most bored cowboy in the world, but still, he sounded like a cowboy.
this guy
hes really passionate about his work and gives astounding performances. all hanar and volus in mass effect were voiced by him and I wasnt aware of this until like last year
i met him in a con afterparty once where he did improv. improv was pretty gay but Meer himself is a very nice and sincere. happily answered all my questions about how to git gud at voice over. even bought me a beer.
i cant be objective on this since ive met him, but his performances are great IMO
His Lovecraft audiobooks are brilliant as well
Liam ' O Brien
Jamieson Price
Patrick Seitz
Laura Bailey
Jessica Strauss (only through Juri)
Wendee Lee
COMPLETE
His other roles are pretty good too, there's just something pleasant in his voice.
Get what, user?
As they move up a pay bracket the fresh talent has a chance to start out. Eventually the new guys will replace them whn they either price themselves out of the market or people just start liking a new guy more. Its the way it works.
Sean Bean should be in way more games. His voice is so soothing.
>happily answered all my questions about how to git gud at voice over.
What did you ask? What did he say?
Dave B. Mitchell
Dog/God is just so perfect, two very distinct and yet earily similar voices
Special mentions for Keith David and Ron Perlman, 'cause god damn, I love their smooth and deep voices
>ctrl f steve blum
>no results
>why
Akio Otsuka has been in loads of stuff but most people know him in vidya as Japanese Solid Snake/Big Boss. He sounds genuinely intimidating when he gets to the big buck lines and can pull off comedy really well too.
Let me think. Jansen is really fucking great but he's as nobody as they come. As much as people dump on him RAD is pretty talented. Plus I can't NOT love Travis Touchdown. Simon Templeman, Tony Jay, obviously. The guy who was in the Punisher movie from mid to late 2ks and was also in Gun as the main character. Someone will remind me. Phil Lamar is up there because he's pretty talented. John DiMaggio because he's got more range than he'll ever be asked for. As the one guy said Mark Meer is pretty cool but gets fuck all for roles. Fred Tats. Cam Clarke. The girls from Pani Poni Dash because in the on DvD interviews they looked cute. Yeah, that's a bad answer. Cree Summers but she always gets asked to be a hoarse screechy monster. Yuri Lowenthal cause he cared enough to learn Jap. Reuben Langdon because Dante. Long list. VAs can be cool people. Some are even legit talented. Oh yeah, Claudia Black because her voice makes me want to do terrible things.
She'd get this dick, please don't stop posting
Doubt she would refuse.
She's nice.
Dont you dare talk shit about my boy RAD
Totally forgot him, thanks. Spike's great and so's Wolverine.
All of them are great. Ron was also in Gun and man did that game have some fucking GREAT voice acting.
I nelieve he was also Bato in GitS.
basic stuff like how to start doing it professionally. things like how to save your voice during recording sessions where you have to shout and scream, what roles to take and what to skip (aka mentioning you did that Sonic x Shrek fanfic voiceover three years ago isn't something you want people to know[duh]), whats his favorite class in ME (Infiltrator), what kind of pay to expect and what kind of people you should know. the advice that stuck most was to enjoy my job, not to just grind it. VAs dont get paid too much so might as well enjoy the projects you get into. people in the industry accept anyone with even a little experience and a portfolio. he also gave me a few tips on how to do proper intonation and to relax. apparently reading the same line 15 times will make it eventually sound very robotic and then the director will just go "ah, good enough".
but yeah having the number of a few sound directors is a sure way to get a good part. just knowing people will get you around way easier than applying for every single audition out there.
Whoever voiced Nick Valentine.
She's more than nice user.
Matt Mercer
thanks for learning me a new word
Voice actors are useless.
I always saw people going on about how Jennifer Hale did a better job then him but Mark Meer was fucking great as broshep.
I really liked femshep, never played 2 or 3 as a male shepard.
I honestly feel that the "muh kid" shit in 3 would be far, far worse as a broshep. It was a tiny bit acceptable coming from a childless woman, but only just barely.
fuck, i cannot believe how they chose to tie loose ends in 3. simply stunning.
Stephen Russel
It's shame that his voice fits Nick Valentine so fucking well, but other characters it sounds so off
He voices the nigger warlock in Morthal in Skyrim and it just does not work at all
Not really because it's a redguard for example, but because the character itself just doesn't lend itself to Stephen Russel
yeah well loud minority. hale isnt bad but like most modern VAs she can do one voice and one voice only. her own voice where she shifts the pitch a little bit.
See MGS, MGS2, kotor, SWTOR, all Mass Effects etc.
You mean ocelot-man?
Probably because she naturally made the character sound extremely forceful. Meer made Shep sound more professional, almost like an impartial super secret space soldier. Having played both Renegade and Paragon in all but 3 I can safely say that Femshep always sounds like she's a more emotional, perhaps even volatile character whereas Manshep sounds like someone who keeps the job at the forefront. Maybe its just Meer's voice but even when you're beating people or saving orphans he sounds focused. Hale always made Femshep sound a lot more like N7 was literally an excuse to do what she wanted. Just my opinion.
That's Stephen Russell, think he was also all the Mr Handy's and Garrett in thief.
I like Pic related, seems like a pretty chill dude as well.
His role in Last of Us was also pretty excellent, didn't actually know it was him until the credits rolled
Jennifer Hale got worse as the series went on.
Mark Meer "improved" as the series went on. (He's actually a great voice actor but they gave him shit voice direction in an attempt to sound like a everyman character which Shepard obviously should not be.)
...
Is that Egoraptor's /fit/ little brother?
Also Garret from Thief. Also the guy who was Splinter Cell man(yes I feel bad for forgetting his name and the character's) fucking made that character. As much as people hate on Conviction and rightfully so he made grizzled dad work exceptionally well. Max Payne was great too. Wish I could remember their names.
I noticed that actually, like the conversation with Joker after the Asari home world falls. If you decide to confront him about his joke femshep just sounds slightly annoyed while broshep is fucking pissed.
Troy is cute. CUTE!
Worst Leon. PAUL MERCIER FOREVER.
From my language: Idzi Dutkiewicz (Batman in Arkham Origins and Knight) and Leto Dugatkin (Nathan Drake in Uncharted).
In english: Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill.
The guys who voiced this fucker in Transistor. His voice was so unique and different, and he's literally gotten no other roles in video games except for the one. He really needs to get more roles.
Fucking Slavs and their mobster names. Also those are really, really good choices for English.
...
I'm convinced that Jennifer Hale and Keith David and a number of other high profile voice actors was sick to death of the series by Mass Effect 3.
I preferred Paul Mercier.
This. I can't stand this shit anymore. I'm nearly at the point where I lose all interest in a game when I hear one of their voices. The new Spiderman is a great example.
>the guy who was Splinter Cell man
The character is Sam Fisher, the actor is Michael Ironside. Fun fact for you: the reason he didn't voice Sam in Blacklist is that he felt Conviction should have been the end of the series. He almost didn't even return for Conviction because he thought the same about Double Agent, but he caved because he liked that the story had to do with Sam's daughter.
Nolan North
People give him shit about having no range but that's horseshit, it's just that people only recognize him when he's doing his normal Nathan Drake voice. Look no further than Penguin in Arkham City for an example.
man voiced jotaro in stardust crusaders and is also high noon man
Double Agent was a stretch and Conviction was basically just abusing branding. Conviction DID have fun as hell co-op, though.
I unironically really enjoyed the small bits Kiefer Sutherland has in GZ and TPP.
Mike Patton because of his performance in The Darkness
Memes aside, the English VA fucking nailed the delivery of this line.
Crispin Freeman
>the most bored cowboy in the world
That's just Ocelot. He's bored unless he is torturing someone or revealing his quadruple spymaster plan.
Xander Mobus
Matt Mercer
Troy Baker
Sean Chiplock
Cherami Leigh
Fred Tatasciore
James Arnold Taylor
Laura Bailey
especially baker and bailey, it straight up pulls me out of the game with these people
He looks like Beans from Even Stevens if he went down the good timeline.
Nah he was bored, Ocelot realized how pointless everything going on in MGSV was.
A lot of the time I can't even tell Baker is in a game unless I'm told beforehand. I had no idea who was the main dude in Bioshock until a few weeks ago.
He sounded like an artistic version of Jeff Goldblum. Did he voice anyone in Pyre
Nope, he's only had one video game role, and that was in Transistor. He's just a regular actor, I have no idea how Supergiant even managed to convince him to voice Royce.
Who gets to go first? How about...me
That line still gives me chills
Supergiant really get literally whos to voice people like the prson who voiced Zia in bastion who I found out wasn't voiced by Ashley Barrett acording to IMDB Holy shit he also has a transistor and he can also pause too
This.
