OP here, exactly there isn't.
Journey.
though I haven't heard a videogame OST that was ever legitimately good. not Nier, not Final Fantasy, not anything
...
Hitman 2
Is this a custom cover because I've never seen this used
>not letting the thread expire
OP being a faggot as always
It must be, although it's not mine.
chronocross.jpeg
can any of you think of an avantgarde vidya OST?
I can think of an avantgarde film soundtrack (two that come to mind are 2001ASO with the Ligeti, and There Will Be Blood with Jonny Greenwood's score)
but I can't think of anything avantgarde for vidya aside from maybe Evergrace
You must not like music at all.
Automata comes close.
I love the first Nier's soundtrack to death, but I might nitpick at how many times they recycle the same songs for dramatic moments.
my favorite albums are
>philip glass - einstein on the beach
>steve reich - drumming
>stephen jay (recorder) - African Drum, Chant & Instrumental music
>Robert Ashley - Automatic Writing
etc.
Drakengard 1 has a very unique OST consisting of unsettling, chaotic use of orchestra samples.
youtube.com
Okami
eh not very avantgarde but maybe this is as close as one can get
really good though, should I play Drakengard?
>Automata comes close
It really didn't. Automata's ost was good background music at best.
With OG Nier I can enjoy listening to the whole soundtrack on it's.
For the OP some of my other favorite osts.
Sotc
DCK 1&2
Phantasy star IV
Most FF, Megaman and Sonics
OOT
OK never mind the second-half of that got real good, Stravinsky-an or something
*on its own.
this soundtrack is dope, is the game worth a damn?
why are you blogging retard
It's not the best if you're looking for a fun game but it definitely has the most fucked up cast of "heroes". You'll like it if you enjoy Yoko Taro's wild rides.
You asked if I hated music, and I proved I didn't faggot
eh fun isn't a worry, but is it ever with boring padded stretches or anything? that'll make me drop a game more than anything
if it was $5 I'd just buy it but I remember a physical copy being $40
I think Nier 1 had stronger stand-alone tracks. Grandma, Emil Sacrifice, and Song of the Ancients, are all fantastic.
But I think Automata did a better job in overall sound design, making the most of putting the music where it fits and changing it up with what's going on.
undertale
pokemon
dark souls 1 or 3
Bloosborne
MGSV
Hotline Miami 1 & 2
is this b8 jesus christ
he said better
i dont know
but either way you replied
>eh fun isn't a worry, but is it ever with boring padded stretches or anything? that'll make me drop a game more than anything
the game tries to put you in the mindset of its psychopathic protagonist, so it involves long stretches of mindlessly cutting through enemy soldiers with no real variety
>if it was $5 I'd just buy it but I remember a physical copy being $40
I don't know what prices are like but it emulates well enough iirc
FFX. Post yfw To Zanarkand starts playing.
It's a better game too
This you fucking pleb secondary
Undertale honestly.
>It really didn't. Automata's ost was good background music at best.
delete this right now
>It's a better game too
as someone who got the Platinum in FFXV and Nier, you are dead wrong
Ahem.
Got that backwards. Automata OST is good standalone and in the game. Nier OST is good background music but not worth listening to separately outside of maybe four or five songs.
Kill yourself.
...
The game sucks but the OST is pretty good.
youtube.com
There was a lot of music, some of it bad.
But this song, every time it played, the game got 10x better.
Then imperial soldiers would attack from above.
Tales of Legendia
>I love the first Nier's soundtrack to death, but I might nitpick at how many times they recycle the same songs for dramatic moments.
Automata drinking game:Take a shot every time you hear this start playing.
youtube.com
This is my favorite track.
objectively correct.
>25 years
>still hasn't been topped
Lufia 2 OST is great.
Let It Die
Hotline Miami
Halo 2
Chrono Trigger
Any Pokemon game
Fallout 1
VTMB
Deus Ex
Nu-Killer Instinct
Just off the top of my head
Its not just one or two tracks that carry the entire thing, pretty much every track is good in its own way.
>that violin kicking in at 2:00
This track gets me pumped to hell, the escape from the religion factory chapter was so fucking fun.
Automata surpassed original Nier's OST. Better track variety and way more consistent quality, extremely powerful new tracks that rival the tops of Nier's OST (Vague Hope, Bipolar Nightmare, Copied City, City Ruins Shade, Beautiful Song, Weight of the World), way better OST usage inside the game with transitions from instrumental to vocal versions depending on your position inside the location, and it's simply way more thematic, for example it's crazy that War & War uses the same leitmotif as City Ruins despite those two sounding absolutely different.
It also has majestic arranges/callbacks to the themes from the first game that sound absolutely different and arguably better in some cases (Wretched Weaponry, Grandma Destruction).
Both osts are great but you really need to be a mindless hipster sheep to deny that Okabe peaked at Automata despite the fact he considers it his best work.
kind of? it's really fucking weird. it plays like a poorly designed ps2 game, but the atmosphere is really interesting. I'd suggest playing it for a bit and you can find it for cheap as well.
meh most of it's not actually that memorable
especially Birth by Sleep, trash soundtrack aside from that first track during the Tutorial
Grim Fandango
...
>Automata surpassed original Nier's OST
It didn't
>Better track variety and way more consistent quality
Minimum to no more drums and all
Fuck off, original Nier's better in every way
...
I always felt the music was way too epic for a game with those """graphics""" desu
>2:17
The music literally doesn't fit
youtube.com
you know if there's nothing else in this shitty day, at least I met someone who's played and can recommend Evergrace
I'll try and emulate it though my computer's shit at emulation
B E C O M E A S G O D S
>It didn't
Nice counter arguments you have there, sheep. Not like i expect anything else from contrarians.
Automata is the better soundtrack by a mile. I get you're a contrarian but there are limits.
It's repetitive as fuck, but with actual "experimentality", especially from FromSoft guys who milked the fuck out of KFs and also made Shadow Tower
I'd say it's okay and you need to play it if you're really like music
Evergrace?
youtube.com
youtube.com
Composer can't even read music.
All I hear in the chorus is "hot pockets, hot pockets, hot pockets, hot pockets."
Automatafags are pathetic anyway, so whatever, nigger
Chrono Cross
Lost Odyssey
Yeah I know, it's a very original and creative soundtrack. It's way better than generic fucking orchestral/choral/bleep.
Evergrace had a lot of crummy songs but also a lot of god tier ones, the main theme and the final boss theme come to mind
You're the contrarian.
Most people who played both games prefer the first Nier's OST.
Automata might have more fans overall, but that's because of all the hype surrounding 2B's ass
Liquid diarrhoea stemming from your mouth gives fans of original Nier an enormous disservice, trash.
Who is most people? You're on an anonymous image board. Automata has a better soundtrack and makes better usr of it in scenes.
Too much Eastern focus ITT, how about some West?
Even creator himself considers Automata's OST his best work. It's adorable that you avoid any actual counter arguments because you will flat out lose. Automata has a more high-quality OST that is way better used in actual game.
>two games have great OSTs
>bicker over which one is better and call the other shit
Stop this.
How elitist you should be to write shit like this? Fuck off already
Cry me a river, sheep.
I'd rather fuck 9S desu
youtube.com
Legit one of the best boss themes in any game.
can we agree that Okabe's soundtracks for Nier are entirely mediocre choral music
Artists are always trying to promote their most recent work shithead.
Listen to an band interview. They always say their most recent album is the best regardless of whether or not it's a pile of shit.
>tfw I actually like Buying Goods At Palmira
>always gets posted in shitty videogame music threads
Asura's Wrath
We have composer's words against yours, user. I will go with composer.
despite it being the worst main Megaten. I have to go with this so hard
I've basically accepted that no one on the internet has good taste in music except for me and like 10 other people
it's like an Organization XIII thing except instead of 13 xehanorts it's just 13 of me all talking to myself about music
at least that's what the good convos on Sup Forums and RYM feel like
My Nigga, this boss theme was bitchin.
youtube.com
every theme was beyond eldar god tier. Ever listened to divinity or ophan wolf legends?
Nier and Automata's OST are only good to hear in game, otherwise i will never bump that shit. Not great to hear outside it.
Pokemon soundtracks have been going downhill since D&P
>I've basically accepted that no one on the internet has good taste in music except for me and like 10 other people
best setting since SMT2, I just wish the superbosses and the final boss to neutral ending wasn't fucking DLC
youtu.be
After I played Nier and completed it, I listened to that ost almost everyday for a year. Cant say the same for Automata but it was good
I'd say FF8 and MGR give it a run for it's money, they are my top 3 osts.
obvsly not literally 10 but there is almost no one I can have a full convo about music with
