Whats the other one?
Great thread, OP!
>what are your favorite jrpgs
I like all sorts of JRPGs but I tend to enjoy TRPGs the most
>what have you played most recently
I just did another challenge run of my favourite game, Fire Emblem 5
>what are you looking forward to
Nothing in particular but I have plenty of games left to play. I hope SaGa SG gets translated one day.
>what is some of your favorite music tracks from a jrpg
My favourite tracks tend to be from my favourite games, mainly because of the game and not because of the track. But here's a few anyways:

Can some anons recommend me a JRPG with freedom in exploration/progression or one where your choices matter? Been looking at DQXI lately and while the game looks gorgeous I'm very disappointed to see that it's basically a more linear DQ8.
I've also played KMT, SMT, other DQs, Dragon's Dogma and Souls if that counts.
The SaGa series.
There's actually a thread up right now, maybe that's why no one is posting here
What do I do to unlock the DQIX DLC quests without an AR or hacked 3DS
Sorry my man but you're fucked. No even trying to be a dick, you can't, sorry.
Exit Fate
Last Scenario
I get PS2 very late and hooked on Gust games.
Now I grieve for the present Gust.
Does Sup Forums's JRPG threads get shitposted into oblivion too?
Also I'm finally starting TiTS

quick, you have 0.01 attoseconds to name 1,000 RPGs that have turn based combat and are not set in a generic tolkien ripoff world
I'm playing Chrono Trigger for the first time. At the final boss so I'm doing all of the side quests first. And that GOD DAMN charge door near that GOD DAMN conveyor belt is GOD DAMN impossible to get to in time even with the conveyor switched. I have got to the GOD DAMN door with sparks around Robo's body and it still wont GOD DAMN open. Pretty fucking GOD DAMN good game though, anybody got any recommendations?
In all honesty I can think of a lot of jrpgs not set in medieval fantasy settings.
SMT series
MOTHER series
Later Final Fantasy Games
Metal Max series
Breath of Fire IV and V
Pokemon
Every Mario jrpg
Medabots
Xeno series
Play Dragon Quest III on snes if you like Chrono Trigger, not super similar but both are solid game.
Came here to post about SaGa. Glad to see this thread is up.
Just finished DQII
I can definitely see why it's called the worst of the series.
I'm excited to move on to III, knowing that it's regarded as one of the best.
Really? it's better than the first in every single way.
But harder.
>tfw don't want to replay jrpgs you loved because you can't stand shallow turn based with random encounters anymore
What's a good, modern turn based JRPG? I don't wanna wait for the new Dragon's Quest.
They are shilling the new dragon quest pretty hard over here in Japan. Is it worth getting?
Persona 5 is pretty lit. I guess it really depends on how you feel about the slice of life high school stuff.
Playing Radiata Stories but I think I know too much about later events and not playing a game blind always kills enjoyment for me.
I'm sure if I played it years ago like I should have I would have loved it.
Far too much backtracking in II.
It's been a while since I played I, but I don't remember it being nearly as bad in that regard.
>>what are your favorite jrpgs
Lost Odyssey, FF6,7,8. Fire emblem count?

last one i beat was Persona 5, i'm almost dome with Nier Automata (does that count)?

Fuck I'm such a newfag.
I've been jumping around recently. I beat Devil Survivor 1, and I was planning to go around for another ending, but MegaTen games always have shit NG+ so I dropped that.
Then I did Bravely Default up until the loop, and now I'm doing the start of Le Milenom Girl
>what are your favorite jrpgs
The Trails in the sky games. I was surprised at how much I ended up loving them. Chrono Trigger will always have a spot in my heart because of the fun I had with my brother as we played it. And of course Dragon Warrior monsters on the GBC.

Yeah no wonder why it sells like shit while FF7 is getting a god damn Remastered version

ones with out of the way battle systems and good characters. favorite is probably DQV.

partway into chrono trigger, got distracted by breath of the wild. will probably either finish it or start radiant historia.

I sincerely feel bad for anyone who seriously has this opinion. The type of ignorance you can only feel pity for.

And it's extra funny since two SaGa games got a remaster in the last two years.
And you know what's even funnier than that? They didn't get turned into Action games just to stay relevant in the market, because they're actually good games that don't need to be turned into something completely different.

OP here, happy to see the thread is till alive.

Just picked up a copy of SMTIV today, I was lazy and am only startingit now despite being out for years. Only a few hours in but it's cool.

I'm hoping for more info on a English release of DQXI. Honestly if the switch gets SMT5 and DQXI that alone may convince to get the switch.

I'm playing DQ8 on the 3ds right now (hacked with orchestra ost and weeb voice acting). It's pretty awesome, just got to the abbey. I'm pretty floored with how great the game looks and how smoothly it runs. Makes me wish more devs gave a shit about the 3ds in its prime. Anyway, I want to make Jessica use daggers, is this a bad idea? I don't care about min/maxing, just not being totally fucking worthless.
Growlanser Wayfarer of Time
FF7 fags are the worse. They seriously think there babby first jrpg are the pinnacle of jrpgs.
It's like they never fucking bother playing any jrpg ever before playing FF7 HELL even ff in general.
>what are your favorite jrpgs
Xenogears, Xenoblade 1/X, TWEWY, FF6/9 are among my favorites. MH4U/Bloodborne too if you count those under jRPGs

SMT nocturne/4. I really need to catch up with 4A
>what are you looking forward to
Xenoblade 2, strange journey remake, radiant historia remake, SMT HD, KH3

Pretty much pick anything from xenogears/xenoblade 1. Although If I have to be specific:

Metal Saga for PS2

xenoblade x, the entire world is open after the first 30 minutes except for the few areas you need to fly to
>one where your choices matter
suikoden 2
How badly will I be let down with any other Tales game after this?
considering berseria is one of the worst and barely better than zesteria, not very much
Linear progression and choices generally just impact the survival of minor NPCs and don't really change the plot (except for a route split available on NG+ and the "choose you're waifu" at the end).
It's not a bad game but don't post it everywhere for no reason
>what are your favorite jrpgs
Tales of Destiny and the Tales of series as a whole, FFXII, Chrono Cross, DQVIII and the DQ series, Legend of Dragoon, Phantasy Star games on the Genesis.

Pic related, also completed my 5th run of Tales of Symphonia

Shadow hearts series some interesting music
I'm playing through the Dragon Quest series right now and I'm having the time of my life. Started with 1 back in December and I just finished 5 yesterday. Picking up 6 now.
My favorite RPG was always Panzer Dragoon Saga or Final Fantasy V but right now I'm putting Dragon Quest III at that spot. The game's simply a masterpiece and an experience I never had with an RPG before.
>what are you looking forward to
Not much that's actually coming out besides DQXI. I have a huge JRPG backlog and DQ has been igniting my desire to play more JRPGs.

I'm looking for a colorful, light-hearted JRPG for my 17-year-old sister. It must be simple and easy and be playable on a hacked 3ds. Could you guys recommend something?
So far I'm thinking of DQVIII, maybe SMRPG if that runs on 3ds emulators.
Pokemon.
DQ III is the shit. Love that game.
>tfw
Ah well. I guess I'll just play the story and be done. Too many good DS games lost content from the end of WiFi connection.

>what are your favorite jrpgs
SMT IV (cus of the style and fashion, as well as ost), Etrian Odyssey, 2 and 3, Persona
most recently, i've been on my first classic run of Etrian Odyssey 2 Ultimate. Last night I ordered Dragon Quest 8. I'm excited to get it tomorrow since it will be my first game in the series. I used to hate the simplistic/lighthearted art style, but after plowing through EO a little faster than usual, I'm excited about the refreshing new feel.

Save editor.
Wew, glad I checked in before bed.
What's that
Basically the wi-fi/additional contents are already there in the game. The one you downloads via wi-fi is just the key to unlock them. With save editor, you can unlock them without going to wi-fi. The catch is, you need to access the .sav file for the editor to edit. I hope you're playing on flashcart/emulator and not using the original cartridge.
It's a cart I got for cheap from a garage sale.
Well, I'm afraid your only choice is to either get an AR/powersave or replaying in emulator, then.
Yeah, that's what I thought. Thanks for the reply anyway user.
Been playing Tales of Symphonia and just noticed the world design has barely changed at all between this and Xillia. Abyss felt different but that was the only Tales I've played on handheld.
Dropped Persona 4. Don't know why but I just couldn't get into it. I thought Persona 3 was alright when I played it on my PSP.
Maybe I'm not in the right mind-set or whatever.
Just got done playing FF1 all Red Mages. Spent half my playtime trying to brute force the Chaos Shrine without grinding more. Just started up Chrono Trigger, never played it
Taking a break from Zero no Kiseki/Trails of Zero. Rough translation patch but enjoying it alot.
>Chrono Trigger
>FF7
>Persona 3/4/5
Which one has the worst fanbase?
on Sup Forums: persona
outside of Sup Forums: FF7
As much as they all have terrible fanbases, ther is no thing worse than a hardcore Triggernigger.
clearly hasn't interacted with a hardcore FF7 fan, these are the OoTniggers or FF, claiming its the best game ever when it's not even top 3 in its own series and reacting violently when someone doesn't agree with them
Recently finished Trails in the Sky 3rd. It was alright, but both premise and execution felt pretty lazy compared to the previous two games.
But holy shit, kitty suit Richard. Someone stop this madman.
I think I'll finally give Legend of Mana a try.
I think just the MegaTen franchise covers 1000 games anyway
How do ya'll finish these games? I always lose interest about half way through.
Just depends, if the game is good I'll never lose interest. Honestly I find the "it get good 10 hours" stuff bullshit. I can get a rough hour or two even but anymore and I just won't bother. I play mostly snes jrpgs as well, being older they're naturally shorter.
Is it true that the Disgaea games can be played without to much grinding?
I don't care to much about post game or optional stuff, just the main story line.
T e r r a n i g m a
Hello
what are the best jrpgs for the ps2?
Yes. But they're not particularly fun. People call it a grinding game because it only holds appeal to people who like grinding.
Xenosaga 3
Kingdom hearts 2 final mix
Final fantasy 10/12
SMT nocturn
DQ8
>favorite JRPGS
Xenogears is my favorite game of all time, and if this counts Final Fantasy Tactics comes second.
>most recent
Played Persona 5, but I didn't really enjoy it too much. Pacing was kinda bizarre, especially when you advanced your social links because it kept swapping back to the present time, and that really interrupted the flow of some scenes. It was alright otherwise; very stylish, but not really my thing.

Octopath Traveler, probably. This game is the only chance we've got at seeing a Xenogears remake in my lifetime, so I'm going to shill the shit out of it even if it's bad.
