wasen't total ass
It was a different time Xbox was on top of the world
it innovated, then retroactively became shit when every other game copied it, just like with Resident Evil 4's over the shoulder shooting
It's great
game was awesome, not sure how it holds up
It was an innovative game, the "generic brown and bloom chest high walls cover shooter" was copying Gears which did it first and they wanted a piece of the money pie.
I thought the shotguns and executions were what seperated it from generic 3rd person cover shooters. They definitely existed before gears.
>get nostalgic and watch Gears of War trailer on YouTube
>Rated M for Mature
>and...you...ALLLL REAADDYYY KNOWWW HOWW THIS WILL END. YOU ALREADY KNOW...
>chills.mp4
>Xbox 360 now $199
It's a really good third person shooter. Have you played it?
>then retroactively became shit when every other game copied it
That doesn't work like that. Later games have no bearing on a game's quality, idiot.
You don't get it, it's okay. I understand. Run along, son.
They do on Sup Forums
You're a simp trying to pass fallacies as arguments. The game doesn't morph into something else because it influenced other games.
3rd person shooters existed before gears, but they were pretty different from gears, 3D person shooter with cover was pretty new at the time, roadie run was new, "brown and bloom" wasn't a generic thing yet.
Fun
You just don't understand. You see what you want to see. It's cool.
Normie console players think its good
Second one had horde mode which is the only good part of gears
Gears of War was an innovative game with a lot of new ideas. If you didn't play it when it came out it may seem generic but that's because it was so successful that everyone copy the hell out of it so the stuff that it pioneered became generic. It's the Seinfeld of video games.
>You just don't understand.
Not an argument.
I'd give it a 93% just for the shotgun alone. That thing was satisfying as hell to use
The game more or less reinvented the entire 3rd person shooter genre. For better or for worse is of course an entirely different debate. But it did bring change.
>hardest setting
>HOSTILES.mp3 and LOOKATALLDATJUICE.mp3 on loop for an hour
by coming out in 2006. i realize you must have been in diapers.
now, killzone 2 came out in 2009 and was always trash yet it got 91.
Good for 2006. Never again will I be ocd to get all the achievements.
like skyrim or last of us, its was just mass-advertised casual-core, on a system catered almost exclusively to that audience. in fact i remember the commercial being praised for its "creative" use of mad world
Gears had great trailers.
I truly enjoy the series.
Really great game for it's time.
GoW1 still has the best SP campaign in the series.
>Matches on Gridlock and Canal
My first non-Conker shooter. Fun game.
If you're asking this question you didn't play many games back in 2006. RE4 and Gears are basically the grandparents of every modern 3rd person shooter.
In the hivemind, it does.
It was the first big cover shooter and innovative at the time.
Yeah, Gears was the first mainstream cover shooter. It probably changed Uncharted 1 into what it became.
I remember playing RE4 and Gears and thinking how great they were now every fucking game is an over the shoulder cover shooter it makes it harder for kids to realise how special and unique those games were.
