The reason people are starting to take offense to this is because many other companies have performed this tactic in the past.
They'll start off with zero microtransactions, then release "comestic only" microtransactions, and once that becomes successful, they'll eventually make the game pay2win garbage with microtansactions that offer gameplay advantages.

For online games, particularly ones that offer content that in no way bars access to the core content of the game or gives the player an advantage over others for paying with real money, I see nothing to be upset about. How else do you expect them to keep those servers running and continue developing the game?
