Should I be embarrassed for only listening to video game music?
Every other forms of music does nothing to me. I would argue that classical music has a mathematical precision feel to it but that's about it. Any modern music sounds like putrid garbage however.
>I only listen to video game music >classical music has a mathematical precision >all modern music is putrid garbage
Christian Jones
Recommend me some comfy Sci Fi music from RPGs. I've listened to Mass Effect soundtracks and want more.
Ethan Flores
Most fedoras I've seen are massive music buffs.
Matthew Collins
>classical music has a mathematical precision Oh fuck off. If you can't just enjoy something for itself without trying to be a poser and put on an image to impress other people then just leave it.
Grayson Powell
But the phrase 'mathematical precision' is literally the most memetastic description of a quality that people enjoy about classical music (usually in discussions about Bach) and immediately flags you as poser, whether or not it's true.
Jonathan Russell
>memetastic If you can't describe something without using the word meme your argument probably doesn't have much ground to stand on.
It has a mathematical precision because in some songs the arrangements of notes is based on arithmetic series. That's it I don't mean anything else.
Jacob Williams
Nah bro if it sounds good who cares. I listen to a lot of different music types, from raggaeton to movie/game soundtracks
I only listen to video game music, but I hate classic with a passion. A lot of pop and rap is objectively garbage though. Only an idiot would actually enjoy it.
Blake Wilson
Yes, you should. You should be very embarrassed. Listen to classical, beats, math rock, things that are just instruments if you're gonna be a bitch about it.
Ian Fisher
yeah, you can go wank yourself on Sup Forums over your superior euphoric tastes. I'll wait for someone else who at least sound like they know what they're talking about.
Jeremiah Reyes
>classical music has a mathematical precision feel to it
You haven't listened to classical music nor do you even know what it is. You are generalizing several hundred years of music here. Even the Baroque era famed for Bach and his fugues still has highly elevating and more melodic pieces, and the Romantic era is characterized by some of the most overtly emotional and spirited music ever.
Gabriel Williams
Hey OP, you might be interested in music that has been influential to most great vidya composers. Jazz, prog/math rock and early electronic music have shaped many of the classic videogame tracks on the earliest systems, up to today's.
Give a listen to Ryuichi Sakamoto's Thousand Knives album. Sakamoto was part of the Yellow Magic Orchestra and his early stuff sounds like it comes straight out of an old game.
On the jazzier side, Thelonious Monk and contemporaries laid the groundwork for a lot of the Nintendo tunes, from Mario to Zelda.
Gentle Giant, King Crimson even Genesis could tickle your fancy, but are rather distant from the classic videogame sound.
Also check out Moondog's self-titled album. Very cool stuff!
P.S. I do not frequent Sup Forums
Jace Jones
>songs
Sorry senpai you just lost your Sup Forums-rep for calling Baroque pieces "songs"
Ethan Perry
>only listening to video game music? Extremely.
Samuel Torres
Let me guess, before listening to vidya music, all you heard was nu-metal and other early 2000 popular stuff?
Oliver Green
>should I be embarassed for liking a thing?
holy shit are you fucking 5, who he fuck cares.
Jaxon Rodriguez
>Should I be embarrassed for only listening to video game music? yeah you should be listening to anime OST's too >classical music has a mathematical precision pleb
Ethan Mitchell
Who else listens to the same things over and over and over again until you can't bear to listen it one more time, knows and acknowledges that this is a problem, but can't stop?
Michael Perez
>Any modern music sounds like putrid garbage however. Yep. And we all know who to blame for that.
Eli Perez
no. You guessed wrong.
why are you in this thread.
I don't think video game music has any merit whatsoever. I just listen to it because it's more entertaining than silence.
Matthew Butler
stop listening to serialism
Bentley Thomas
Nah, I exclusively listen to vidya and anime music and I am pretty cool.
Michael Turner
>I don't think video game music has any merit whatsoever
Then why the fuck do you listen to it? If it's all you listen to then you obviously think it has merit. Whether that's a small amount of merit or lots. Do you have autism? is the only relevant message in this thread.
Ian Smith
meant this
Dominic Garcia
>Should I be embarrassed for only listening to video game music Yes, you should. Kill yourself right the fuck now if my opinion is that important to you. Or you could just not give a fuck and continue liking what you like but I guess that's for losers.
Daniel Wright
>Should I be embarrassed for only listening to video game music? No, but saying other forms of music are shit is embarrassing. The majority of music I listen to is video game OST's anyway.
Hudson Ward
>mfw got over my Sup Forums phase and now listen to both "normal" music and VGM
Evan Wright
Listening to nu-metal and undertale cover albums doesnt make you a fuckin music buff
Lincoln Scott
I listen to video game OSTs pretty often, I'm guilty of listening to Undertale's OST while playing Overwatch, and I have Bloodborne's whole soundtrack on my iPod. It's not the only type of music I listen to, I have a pretty big weakness for metal and dadrock, occasionally some electronic stuff too, but I'd only be embarrassed if you decide you wanna play the Super Mario World OST at a party or some shit
Jonathan Scott
Whether or not you think the music has any merit, you listen to it. I'm just showing you paths to take to more of the same, as well as new stuff you might enjoy. Check it out.
Hunter Rodriguez
I never claimed I had superior taste, and I certainly don't visit the shithole that is Sup Forums.
All I'm saying is that if you're selecting your music firstly because of inherent numerical qualities and secondly how much you can pose about it and not because you just like the fucking music then it's a good sign you have autism.
My condolences, by the way.
Julian Richardson
>Should I be embarrassed for only listening to video game music I do not understand this. Why should it make a difference where the music comes from? Why does it have to be -exclusively- video game music? It's not like that's a genre of it's own, there's classical styled with full orchestras, there's rock, rap, and others. Lumping together those all into one category is like lumping together all classical like your retarded ass did. So if you like a certain type of video game music, why not try and expand on what style that's from?
Dylan Stewart
like you
Chase Morris
>All I'm saying is that if you're selecting your music firstly because of inherent numerical qualities and secondly how much you can pose about it and not because you just like the fucking music then it's a good sign you have autism.
Where the fuck did you read that? Are you projecting I'm stating the exact opposite.
thank god not a word of this sentence applies to me.
Justin Torres
I remember being 12 and still "hating" certain types of music.
Josiah Ortiz
>Give a listen to Ryuichi Sakamoto's Thousand Knives album I like you, so I'll second this advice. Sakamoto is so influential to so many genres (and even some of the earliest video game composers) you would be doing yourself a disservice by not listening to Thousand Knives or YMO at least once.
Logan Reed
The first thing you said about classical was an observation about inherent mathematical precision. You didn't say you enjoyed it for how it sounded or how it made you feel. That's where.
>I hate classic with a passion. how can one user be this uncultured
Nicholas Miller
leave the retard alone m8 you've btfo him several times
Jose Harris
Vidya music is fine because what matters most is how it makes you feel, not how it makes you look.
However saying all modern music is garbage most likely comes from having no exposure to something you like, most likely from being an autistic shut-in.
Christian Butler
I like video game music because it reminds me of the one thing in life that I enjoy, even though I think classical music is a lot better.
Ayden Lewis
Liking game music is all right user. Just keep in mind that as said it hardly qualifies as a genre , if you like some game soundtracks there's no reason you won't like as well other music. Just be curious about it
Asher Clark
Sorry user, I'll stop now.
Justin Ross
It's pretty broad, but look into chill 90's rap, it's clearly inspired by that.
Tyler Fisher
Try and find genres the vidya music you like builds upon. I really like oldschool techno, hardcore/gabber and NWOBHM and it often has crossover with my favourite vidya osts in some form. Music is music. Music is nice.
24 and very mild. People should listen to whatever they like, I understand my favourite genres most likely sound like ass to most people. But from time to time i still hear music that drives me up the fucking wall of frustration. More often than not it's just having a giggle about how dumb it sounds from my outside perspective.
Why is that a problem? I listen to things over and over again because i just enjoy it that much. If i feel like listening to something else i'll listen to something else and enjoy that. I've always been a person that doesn't listen to a whole lot of different music but really lose myself in the music that is special to me.
>Thelonious Monk and contemporaries laid the groundwork for a lot of the Nintendo tunes, from Mario to Zelda. Could you give some more specific examples? I never liked jazz that was too "jazzy" en frivolous personally, but J&R in Gta4 could be nice for nighttime driving at times. I really don't hear the nintendo connection from what i very shortly skipped through.
Christopher Harris
I'm not a very big Jazz buff. It's just that if you listen to that stuff, you'll hear where Nintendo got most of their jingles. But it's not song expanded from the jingles, more like the jingle is based off of a riff from a piece.
Wikipedia would be the place to look, I guess. Or YouTube.
Dylan Thomas
The only reason why you like game music is because of the memories associated with the tracks. Otherwise game music borrows from from all different genres of music, so technically you could find your niche in "real" music. Try jazz fusion or something
Austin Scott
lmao you're a massive pleb with a narcissistic personality. No wonder you're vacuous enough to not search for actual music which purpose isn't to be background fodder, but still think of yourself to be superior to others.
Brody Howard
What about anime openings? They're still songs right? Half the time I dont even watch the anime
Jaxson Phillips

>claims someone is a narcissist for being elitist about music >continues to be elitist about music heheh
Jacob Ramirez
Nothing wrong with what you like but your attitude is cringey m8
