It didn't age well, but the whole ceiling walking, the portals and gameplay mechanics were extremely innovative back then.

I love Quake 4 and I kind of like Doom 3. Ceiling walking was cool but they didn't utilize it for any actually cool combat encounters because they didn't really have any cool enemies. And the whole "You can't die" mechanic was idiotic.

You get them for completing sorties, and basically they're mods for one specific weapon, with randomized stats. Every riven is unique.
