Never played RS is it worth to begin now?

last 2 digits of your post is your fishing lvl

nice.

nice

its the only mmo 'worth' playing, thousands of hours of content.

RS3 has a bad reputation amongst the community, theres an old version of the game at its prime called oldschool runescape.

Rs3 has a lot more quality of life features but those come at a price as it has a lot of horrible cosmetics and mtx and the pvp community is totally dead due to the combat system upgrades it recieved.

osrs is janky and not as user friendly but is very active and has the pvp community.

if you do play old school though, rs3 is trash

its already 99 (including my RSC bot account) but w/e

Don't play RS3, it's shit. Play OSRS instead.

You're pretty much 15 years late to the party. But if you absolutely need to play an MMO for whatever reason, Runescape will fill all of your beckoning holes.

Stay free-to-play for a while, make sure you complete a good chunk of the available content before swinging for membership. If you find some way to make enough coins, you can pay for membership with it by buying Bonds. Each one gives two weeks of membership, and last time I checked it was only 12 million or so, which really isn't all that much if you get really good.

>12 mil for a bond

That's a typo right? Last time I played it was only around 2.8 mil.

Do not play osrs. People try and claim it's better due to nostalgia but it's gotten all of the shit updates that made people quit in the first place years ago.

RS3 bond. OSRS bonds are less.

I was referring to the price of RS3 bonds.

do you enjoy a game that basically plays itself?
if yes, then go for it.
You'll eventually look for the easiest way to not actually play the game to level your skills, then ask, why your playing a game, you dont actually want to play because the "play" is just clicking the same tree, rock, agility course 10000 times till the skill levels up by one, so you can advance to click a different kind of tree..

how? all it needed to do was avoid eoc and microtransactions and it did that. what went wrong?

>Implying those were the things that made the game bad.

this only happens to retards that cant have fun without having a strict linear path to follow. Theres plenty of shit to have fun with if you arnt mentally handicapped.

So i start with osrs and try later im a total scrub guys

This. OSRS meant to mean Old School Runescape but that is extremely misleading as they have updates that never even touched RS3. As fucking stupid as it sounds OSRS is more like RS3 2 but choosing to have shittier graphics for whatever reason. Just play the fucking original, sooner or later OSRS is bound to have an EoC-tier update that will cause it to shit itself anyway. Stick with the one that doesn't look like shit and isn't using an outdated client.

>tfw maxed it last week

It's not even to click a different kind of tree. A significant amount of skills are/were more efficient to train on low level things all the way to 99. Maple logs and Iron Ore are two that come to mind, at levels 40 and 15 respectively or something.

OSRS is just as trash faggot

Sup Forumsscape

That fun stops when you no longer need to level a skill for progression, like smithing for example, you cant smith anything that you're going to use at end game, so smithing isnt fun once you have money to buy things like barrows armour, then later tier 75+ gear.

I found leveling skills for quests pretty enjoyable. Then just leveling it after to get it maxed.

play oldschool

No, Runescape is only fun to people who have played it before.
Good thing that's half the Earth

I'm personally waiting for the smithing update to go ironman mode on. Honestly trading and gold inflation in general make the game so piss easy that there is no progression to be had. Do the barb village hole thing for like 10k and free boots, do the school shit slightly north of that for more money and free gloves then go to GE slightly east and buy a rune pick, axe, skimmy, armor maybe and boom you beat F2P. The rest of the game is waiting for your levels to match your equipment. Generally on most games it is the other way around.

Smithing at 80 is needed for Invention, 85 for obsidian armor to cheese Tz-haar, 90 for t80 attuned weaponry with a flat damage boost scaling off agility. Probably a couple other useful things that aren't coming to mind.

Sure. It has the best quests out of any MMORPG.

Hell, better than many single-player RPG's at that.

yeah, they made you need 80 smithing as a
"hey, dont forget this skill exists and we need to make a reason for you to still level it.."

No fun for me i guess

Nice

I wouldn't go that far as of late. I recall a quest being released unfinished and they soon after increase the price of memberships saying they need more money if players want finished content. Believe it was a haunted house-like quest. No Jagex, if you want to get pay then you gotta make the game worth buying. They acting like they were entitled last time I had checked and start giving that shitty kickstarter vibe. Now that I think about it iirc soon after that was when they added the cash shop.

Is this game even f2p or is it a sub-game?

Runescape is shit don't waste your time on this

Name me one mmorpg worth spending time on
inb4 wow, ffxiv, bdo played them all and they are shit

Sub-game. F2P is a demo just unlimited time. No listen to anyone who tell you otherwise or else FF14 would much a much better "F2P" game now seeing how they removed the time restrictions now.

Maybe you just have shit taste

...

Membership is a gateway to about 85-90% of the game's total bulk of content. There's enough stuff to do in the free area to get your skills to about 50 before you should consider buying membership on the regular.

Can i buy membership with ingame gold like wow ?

WoW and FFXIV are far more fun than this Grindscape depressive shit

Yes, exact prices vary based on each game's economy, but if you're anywhere near good enough then you can find ways to sustain this "free" membership indefinitely.

It's effectively subscription-only with additional """microtransactions""" on top of that. Jagex drops hints once in a while that they want to remove membership as a thing so they can 16x their profits like Valve did with TF2, because an astronomically tiny portion of the free players actually buy MTX and have no reason to stick around. I don't think they've managed to convince the beancounters though.

runescape 2 is trash too
only classic was good

nice

>Runescape

Is there any reason for those games to look still look that bad in 2017?

Yea sure but the game really sucks until members. You can't enter like 90% of the game areas, you can't wear some equipment (some of which is still lootable in F2P for some reason), you can't do quests that is completely possible to do as a F2P but Jagex decided nah, literally like 5 skills are untouchable beyond lv5 iirc until members and any exp you get in them are wasted until then and in general you are just seen as a cockroach as far as Jagex cares as even holiday events for the community doesn't includes F2Pers sometimes by limiting the event itself and even preventing F2Pers to unlock WHATSOEVER the reward that they were there that day for that is time limited to that event. If you weren't a member that day then you didn't exist at all as far as they care.

Like Jagex really fucking don't even see F2Pers as members of their community, you are literally a waste of data until you make the switch and it shows.

>sooner or later OSRS is bound to have an EoC-tier update that will cause it to shit itself anyway

Not happening with polls.

You seem to forget that players of a game are some of the biggest idiots out there. Hell doesn't OSRS have GE yet?

Man thats sound harsh even in albion you can exist as f2p player.

So is it even worth start the game as a free player ?

It's to fit the shitty gameplay

>have
It's had it for years now. Shortly after polls came out it was put in.

Runescape 3 is okay

If you want to penny pinch then yea, get to lv40-50 in all F2P skills and do all of the F2P quests including Dragon Slayer. Otherwise not really, the time spent fucking around in F2P for a week can be done in like a day or two in members. Waterfall quest iirc give you like lv30 Str for free.

No, it's why the game has zero playerbase growth. The new player experience is pretty bad.

Starting playing OSRS again a few months ago. Great for that nostalgia fix, been fun having something consume my life.

Literally Play-Doh Online

Exactly.

the nicest way to discribe the free content is basicly everything before members came out plus a runecrafting quest that was added later then reworked is the free 2 play area, good 30-ish quests to work through and generally you don't hit a brick wall until you exhaust your quest log as long as you don't grind too much.

it even ends on a high note with the Dragon Slayer quest to earn the ability to wear rune plate chest which unfortunately is trivialized with members only equipment shortly after.

I hope that's not live servers because draynor willows and fishing spots being empty is depressing.

Fuck you, it's not about fun. It's about bossing all day until you make a bil then selling it all for irl money and claiming you were hacked so you don't get banned for it and can keep going.

It's live servers, but it's out of bounds. I was on the 2nd floor of the game world outside of a building so even if there were people fishing, I couldn't see them.

I guess i give it a try how much does the membership cost?

don't pay for membership until you have played free for a while.

Runescape wasn't even worth it when it first came out.

Runescape only got popular because it was the only browser MMO that wasn't a MUD. For most newfags on Sup Forums, it's babby's first MMO.

It was originally like $5 per month. Last time I had checked it increase to like $7-8, hell, it wouldn't surprise me if it is now $10 per month as Jagex don't understand simple supply and demand even though the game itself literally taught it to a whole generation.

>tfw leveling skills for Plague's End
Everything else is fine though, yet it feels like a lot is locked behind Priff.

RS3 is unironically fine, especially the new areas. Look up Priff/Menaphos.

are you kidding? 2001-2003 runescape was fantastic, though basic.

members ruined it by splitting the user base so much.

well that and it's showing it's age

Thanks guys

>1010x839

On it's own, then yeah it's pretty good. If you compare it to other MMOs at the time, it was pretty dull and graphically behind.

The reason those MMOs died and Runescape stayed because it gathered a niche community due to the unique leveling mechanics no other MMO had at the time and focused being an easy to access MMO.

Windowed mode

Look into OSRS if you need something to grind, otherwise not really.

Plus it updated monthly, at one point weekly. Back then it was the only game that did that beside maybe Maplestory but Maplestory only layer shit on top of shit. Runescape actually gave updates.

Fair enough. I do admit every time I did pop in on Runescape every once in a while, the game did display several dramatic improvements. Ironically mentioning Maplestory does reminds me that Runescape was one of the last MMOs that did give genuine updates.

rs3 is currently updated weekly

I thought they stop with that to go for more expansion-like quality?

They stopped when they realised it was pants on head retarded and their first expansion was an unmitigated failure.

To be honest on a game where the "ninja fixes" are better than the real updates I don't really expect them to do well with any kind of update, players just want them to keep shitting out whatever to avoid reaching completionist anytime soon.

nah they never stopped weekly updates. they were releasing large updates where the majorirt of the weekly updates were just little things, but they stopped with that and now i think they've decided to do 2 or 3 "actual" updates each month instead of 1 bigger "actual" update.

they made this change recently.

i don't think the main game has ever been updated monthly, actually. prettt sure they've been updating every week for 15 years

wondering the same, I used to play the one before this recent updates that changed the fighting game
it wasn't the og runescape, it was the one after like 7-8 years ago

which one is it the one im refering to and is it worth picking to just kill some time and chill from real adulhood stress and enjoy some nostalgia?

Literally doesn't exist anymore unless you find a private server or something. OSRS is the closest official thing you'll find to those days.

nice
