Never really played an RPG in my life Sup Forums so give me some recommendations, I guess this is also just a general RPG thread.

What kind of RPG do you have in mind

Anything for a newcomer I guess, don't really care about difficulty. Maybe a bit simple.

Maybe Arx Fatalis

grimoire

Skyrim seems like an obvious choice.

can't go wrong with grimoire: herald of the exemplar

You have to get The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition for PC, PS4, PS4 Pro, Xbox One and Xbox One X, it's literally the best RPG released in the past 10 years.
Also don't forget to check out The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim VR for PS4 Pro and if you want to play something on the go The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim for the Nintendo Switch.

If we are talking about classic RPGs I recommend you to get an SNES emulator and start playing Super Mario RPG, it's pretty noob-friendly in my opinion.
But if you are talking about moden RPGs, you can also get Skyrim, so great for starters that normalfags love it. Also there are a fuckload of mods for it, that's bonus points, I guess. If you are not willing to pay the game and dlcs you can search for a pirate ultimate edition in google and youtube.

Paper Mario: TTYD
It's a very good introduction to the rpg genre.

Play Chrono Trigger. SNES or DS only though. PSX version is cancer.

Lost odyssey
Blue dragon
Dragonage origins
Skyrim
Oblivion

Dragon Quest 8 is a good start if you don't like 16bit or low polygon fair. Its a PS2 or DS game.

Super Mystery Dungeon is simple and comfy as fuck

Check out Mario & Luigi Super Star Saga on GBA.

Legend of Grimrock I and II
Grim Dawn (or Diablo II)
Elder Scrolls (Skyrim or Oblivion first)

Very different RPGs types so maybe you can decide what you like.

Tales of Symphonia

Final Fantast X is a perfect introduction to JRPGs imo. I love the protagonist, but he's very polarizing so YMMV

Gothic II

Just play Gothic.
