None, because I feel like I've outgrown their ability to provide interesting and accurate depictions of economics, and because I can't stand the shit Paradox has been doing lately.

They're not even close to being the same game. HoI3 is perhaps the most complex GSG ever made, HoI4 is watered down and braindead in comparison. HoI4 isn't necessarily bad, but it's definitely not a sequel to HoI3. I wouldn't recommend HoI3 to a GSG beginner though, HoI4, EUIV, CK2, and perhaps Victoria 2 are better places to start.

It's really not. Sure there are more different goods and the game's "times are changing" feeling gives it a good feeling of progess but the lack of things like supplylines and seasons makes it a lot more shallow.

Just play Darkest Hour if you want a casual version of Hearts of Iron. Darkest Hour at least has some depth to it, unlike that abortion of a game you're playing.

There's a very very deep rabbithole for Grand Strat. Everything by Paradox, maybe with the exception of Hoi3 and Vicky 2 is casual and easy to get into.

For some of the semi-deep stuff try Panzer Corps or Rise of Prussia Gold.

I agree completely, but I play ck2 so much that that I have to hold my self back so I don't blob hard or end up with a kingdom/empire. The events are basically what I look forward to the most when I play ck2 and while gameplay wise they can throw off the balance and add even more power to your arsenal, The events in the new dlc can at least spice things up and keep things interesting.

I'm doing the same thing right now. I've buildt as tall as possible and made the republic of Denmark and pretty much gotten the best income possible in the entire game.
To keep things challenging I try to spread the Germanic religion to as much of Europe as possible, while not expanding myself. There've been quite a few cases of "Put my son in power of christian lands so he can rule and convert them. Oh no, he converted to christianity. Time to dethrone him." but it keeps the game going. Also catholic powers are very weak because they're attacked from all sides, and despite being a little rigged to win (more holy orders than other religions) they're losing. Byz and Umayaad are making sick gains though, but out of my reach to stop them.
