...
Both Niers had amazing OSTs
>Literally the only saving grace of the game beside the ass of 2B
>"no because i say so"
>
...
It was fun. Moreso than FFXV or KH.
More JRPG's shoild do this imho
...
The only part in the game I can enjoy without having to check the wiki.
unironically Drakengard 1 OST
it's an acquired taste
youtube.com
>not checking the wiki anyways just to be sure
Only V had it.
2 and 4 also did.
4 didn't and 2 had regular radio stations (which you couldn't change)
>oeilvert/main theme still makes you teary eyed
Yakuza 0
youtube.com
Yakuza Ishin is right up there with it too.
...
What? Both 4 and 2 had great theme music that wasn't part of the radio.
Yakuza's music went to shit with Kiwami and is forgettable in 6. Sad times.
...
Most Sonic games composed by Ohtani, Unleashed, Colors, and Generations are fucking fantastic, Shane about the gameplay though
Yeah, the inro theme, and remixes of it for the loading screens/mission passed jingle
>automata is the only game with Emil
Granted both games share a lot of the songs
youtube.com
terry scott taylor's stuff is superb, too bad armikrog's soundtrack was all atmospheric shit.
Skullmonkeys had a great OST
youtu.be
You're clueless.
What do you think OST means?
I've played literally every GTA game. The first to implement ambient music was TBoGT, near the end.
That was by far the most creative and immersive video game song I've heard bar none. Top tier taste.
Original Soundtrack?
I'm tired of people posting Vice City
>fbpb
>/thread
>soundtrack thread hasn't mention hotline miami yet
Bayonetta 1
Not 2 that one sucked
>GTA games need not apply.
No problem.
I know exactly which song you'd post.
Bully, Manhunts and RDR have great scores
FFXV is garbage.
ikr
this
DON'T YOU DARE
YOU'LL SUMMON """HIM"""
Name a more comfy soundtrack.
youtube.com
Weapon selection ost is beautiful youtube.com
And I honestly stopped killing on some levels to hear the music
>No TiP on PC
>Original is a pain in the dick to get working on a modern OS.
what a fuckin shame that MS is just sitting on this series.
Wouldn't that in a case of GTA be Licensed Soundtrack instead of Original Soundtrack?
Rayman Legends
If there's anything the recent Deus Ex games have done right, it's the soundtracks.
bump
Last of Us goes without saying
>"mwæh game sucks"
You're so cool...
And a totally overlooked gem Codename 47 IMO.
This is the way to write music for a game. You can have very simple mechanics and outdated visuals, but still create an atmosphere that >sticks< with you through sound and music.
A rule of thumb in filmmaking is "Your picture is never better than your audio" and I think a lot of game devs don't realise this. They go for flashy graphics and lense flare to create atmosphere and settle for a forgettable soundtrack.... but that's the stuff that sticks with you, that resonates and makes you daydream... not 4K resolution.
On it's own, this is just a great record, I think.
Mafia: The City of Lost Heaven

Let's slap a picture on that for effect...
What a faggot
YES
THIS
(and for the same reasons as a lot of the FEEL of that game is the soundtrack, it makes you slow down and listen and makes you feel like your actually sitting at that table, conspiring with your family)
anything by Jesper Kyd applies
20 years old and still the finest video game music ever
dat menu screen theme
Jeremy Soule did so well on this soundtrack that John Williams cannibalized it with zero credit for the movies. But he's a hack and that is what he does (Google Gustav Holtz Planets Suite and Star Wars)
youtu.be

except stupid Assassins Creed
Amon Tobin a best. Gave this game such a great atmosphere.
You serious? There's no comparison. Potter was the last great Williams score.
>GTA games need not apply
Why not? GTA V has an OST, hell, it's by Tangerine Dream, The Alchemist, and Oh No of all people, and it's quite good imo

I started to listen to amon tobin casually becuse of this
Shame the gameplay was shit and the story took a turn at the end into generic save-the-world-btw-you-are-the-chosen-one

I'm probably missing a lot of shmups (because I don't play shmups)
Eh, 2 had some good stuff

Never said it was bad, Harry Potter is the last good thing Williams did besides Memoirs of a Geisha
However, the main theme of the game and the latter part of Hedwig's theme follows a similar rhythm and are in the same key. The issue is that Spule composed this around the end of 1999, whereas the first Harry Potter movie was later.
He does this all the time. Listen to this, he doesn't even try to hide it

I still don't understand why the early Splinter Cell games aren't mentioned more often as real classics. Original Splinter Cell and Chaos Theory are perfect games.
MOTIVATED OTS
But it's utilised really poorly... only good moment is the one where Michael is sky diving on acid.
Your feeling of helplessness is your best friend savage
Max Payne 3
Catherine
Rainbow Six Siege, surprisingly.
(from recent games I've played)
>McDonald's Treasure Land Adventure
kek, gotta give that a listen...
They are pretty much the pinnacle of the stealth genre to me, and I think many would agree. Love the first two (and even the Xbox original version of Double Agent) but Chaos Theory is my clear favourite.
Huh, that is good... thx
Hotline Miami
This one is the best youtube.com
I thought it was utilized very well, especially the tracks I linked, We Were Set Up and its variations especially, plus this one
youtube.com
and the tracks themselves are great in my opinion
>not mentioning MP1
yeah, for real.
i mean, you'll barely hear any of it, if at all (a lot unused, guess from when it had a single player), but shit like youtube.com
for my own answer, portal has this godly song;
youtube.com
shit like this makes me miss Valve. I don't really care about HL3 at this point, but they in general has SO much talent, in so many different departs from music to story telling, etc.. To see that all go to waste... man.
I hear what you're saying, but I feel like 2/3 of that game's sound design was Not-CJ complaining or all the other characters telling him to stop complaining.
Sorry, I'jus couldn't get into it.
I kinda want to go back to silent protagonist after V
Why does no one ever give Double Agent's God-tier OST the recognition it deserves? It manages to be so moody and energetic at the same time--I love it.
youtube.com
uh... recently
well
Persona 5
Automata's OST has the same exact problem that the story has, no actual substance
The soundtrack is carried by its instrumentation, not its composition. Try listening to the tracks on their own and they blue ball you with a lack of satisfying movements and resolutions.
Hmm, maybe just because the game wasn't as perfect as the others. It's definitely the one I remember the least and it's the first time I ever saw a glitch in a SC game.
... but this does sound pretty coll.

This soundtrack was something else.
>nobody has mentioned this masterpiece yet
For shame.
I never paid as much attention to the soundtrack in that one, but yeah agreed fully and will give that a listen again.
I really want xbox emulation so I can play the good version again ;~;
Well this is about the OST, not the sound design. The real lackluster thing about the sound design were the gun sounds, they were a step down from IV's. And this is a completely different discussion entirely, but I liked Franklin quite a bit, thought that he was quite different from CJ and that his status as a gangbanger in a post-gangbanging world served other purposes in the story besides a callback to San Andreas
Remember when sonic games had music that fit the gameplay?
