The game that did destruction physics best was Red Faction Guerrilla and it didnt really get anywhere. It got good reviews but didnt sell very well. And the sequel removed the best aspect of the game, i.e. the open world.

Destruction physics takes a lot of effort and doesnt sell so no one developer dares do it.

But Armageddon was far better than Guerilla. People had a pissy fit because it was back to linear levels instead of open world, but it was entirely to the game's merit. The destruction physics were improved and with proper level design you now had reasons to actually utilise them in creative ways instead of just destroying every building on the map to rack up numbers on a progress tracker. The story was retarded, but who gives a shit?
