The game assumes you never played the first game and is a complete retelling of Alma's backstory. It's a textbook case for style over substance, it borrows the surface elements from fear 1 (slo-mo and Alma) but none of the parts that made the combat so satisfying, The AI isn't as environmentally aware, the weapons feel like airsoft guns as there is no weight or power behind them, the whole game has an orange filter over it and the FOV is ridiculously narrow.
All these changes were made so the game could be sold to a console audience. It's considerably more 'Broey' and attempts to pander to the halo audience by putting in Jen Taylor as sweary not-cortana.
