Game series where the first game is still the best
Game series where the first game is still the best
Haven't played 3rd Birthday but I doubt it tops this one.
...
>2nd game improves in every aspect
>3rd game refines and polishes what the 2nd game built
Yet some people still think 1 is the best
I was having difficulties thinking of an answer to OP, but you fucking nailed it.
Dragon Age too, while we're at it.

>gimmicks: the sequels
Crash 2 and 3's controls and movement are floaty, definitely not as fun considering Crash flies off everywhere at the slightest touch. Crash 1's stiff movement helped a lot with the game's focus on tight platforming. It provided a decent challenge, unlike 2 and 3 which are just ridiculously easy.
>tfw like 1 because it's the only game where Crash isn't floaty and it's actually challenging
>everyone else likes 2 because it's much easier and 3 because gimmicks = good game I guess
There are so many games I could post.

Give me enemies that actually fight back any day. I can go on, but i'm not going to break down why DMC1 is superior just to a reaction image. I'll wait to the DMC3babbies really start to flock.
BS2>BS1
Nobody even mentioned DMC3 though.
>Mega Man
>Kingdom Hearts
>Metroid Prime
>Ace Attorney (the DS version with Case 5)
>Ueda trilogy
>Zero Escape
>Spyro
>Sly Cooper
>Crash Bandicoot
>Animal Crossing
Doesn't need to be mentioned. I've been around enough to know it's implied that DMC3 is a GOAT action game, when that couldn't be further from the truth. No one is going to say DMC4 is the best.
...
4 had the best gameplay though.
Mega man 2 is the best tho
inb4 thread derails
I think we can unanimously agree Dead Rising, Silent Hill, and REmake are the peak of their series.
Silent Hill 2 is better. REmake doesn't count.
i love silent hill one, but don't being an idiot
>Down in the Bonehoard
>Thieve's Guild
>Haunted Cathedral x2
>Lost City
>Escape!
>Into the Maw of Chaos
>Better than Thief 2
DMC3/4 have good "gameplay" in that they're essentially a technical playground. You've got a ridiculous assortment of moves you can pull off, but the enemies were made overly passive. Meanwhile, DMC1 still has the best atmosphere, environments, enemy design, and music (that isn't lyrical fucking cancer).
DMC1 you're fighting actual enemies, DMC3/4 you're fighting the ranking system in a glorified Musuo.

Backtracking through unfinished levels is the exact opposite of good gameplay especially when two of them are the Dice Game.
aside from the thieves guild, all that shit is awesome and is what makes thief 1 so great.
You need to be a different kind of hipster to think reused assets from Resident Evil makes the best DMC game.
You know it kid
Technically not the first but
Metal Gear Solid

Disagree, a lot of those levels feel more like an adventure game than a stealth game. Most of them take place in convoluted cave systems with dinosaurs and zombies and in the case of Return to the Haunted Cathedral you spend almost half of the mission doing fetch quests for a ghost. The best levels from Dark Project are the ones that are focused on actual thievery in close quarter areas like Assassins, The Sword and Song of Caverns.
Also Escape! is objectively bad, there's no way you think that level is awesome. It has needlessly complex design with most areas looking identical and absolutely zero stealth involved, you're best off just running through the level as fast as you can and ignoring everything.
Crash and the sequels are two different approaches to the genre, both have good things going on for them.
I hope you meant to say the X series because MM1 is the worst of the classic series.

Corpse Party. The 2nd game was serviceable but the third just crapped all over everything.
Bioshock. The second is good and all; but you become way too powerfull too early
Then why did you post it? You have no valid opinion.
>but muh powers
>but muh longer length
>but muh collectables
>but muh animal friends
>but muh beat-em-up-lite gameplay
>but muh power mixing
>but muh spectacle over substance final bosses
>but muh epic tragic characters and 2deep4u baby lore
All things that detract from the Kirby experience. All things that muddle and bloat what was a focused and infinitely replayable concept and execution. All things that caused Kirby to sell worse and worse. You could disagree, and probably put an argument behind that disagreement, but you'll know you're wrong, and form now on you'll recognize that while Kirby has a lot of good games, this will always be the best one.

Got me there. I can't wait for the Last of Us 2 to put this back on track though
>Silent Hill 2 is better.
it's not tho'.
It's way less scary, way easier, has much poorer pacing, poorer & smaller town-design, and notably smaller set of less varied enemies.
