The funniest parts of GCCX are his interactions with the other staff.
Which I guess is why Arino does far better with adults than he does children. AVGN is for children.
I never really got the appeal of GCCX
It's sort of endearing but I never really found it funny or compelling to watch
Personally, I just like the nostalgia aspect. It's an endearing show about a bygone era of video games. I don't think it's a particularly funny show although it has it's moments. Arino himself just comes across as a bit of a dick. He's fairly rude in general and cruel to some of the staff, especially the fat woman.
A middle aged Japanese man who is not particularly any good at video games, tackles some of the hardest games ever, and tries to clear them through force.
Some of the games are really obscure and/or weird so it can be fun to discover something new.
SOS and Paris Dakar Rally Special come to mind immediately

Can I get a quick rundown on the GCCX subbing scene? It's been like two years since I kinda dropped because of irl stuff. The pastebin on /vr/ is a clusterfuck to navigate and it seems there was some incident with nyaa or something so a lot of stuff became unavailable but I'm not well informed.

It's super easy and organized. There's a page for new subs, and others for entire complete episode lists. The short answer is that very few new episodes are being subbed.
